Step 1: Lead-in
Show students some pictures of musical instruments. Then let students freely talk about these musical instruments: ①Do you like ...? ②Can you play ...? ③Do you want to learn to play ...? In a few minutes, several students will be invited to share these things. Step 2:Pre-listening 1.Complete the task in 1a. Ask students to look at the pictures and words in 1a. Draw lines to match the words with the pictures. After 2 minutes, check the answers. Step 3: While-listening 1.Complete the task in 1b. Play the tape for Ss to listen for the first time. After listening, ask students to number the conversations [1-3].2 minutes later, play the tape again. Check the answers. Step4: Post-listening
Ask and answer questions about the instruments. For example: --Can you play the piano? --Yes, I can. Step 5:Pre-listening
Step 6: While-listening
Circle the words and phrases you hear. Play the violin sing Play the guitar dance Play the drums draw Play the piano tell stories 3.Complete the task in 1e. Listen again. Fill in the chart with the words and phrases in 1d.
Play the tape again. After 5 minutes, check the answers. Step7: Post-listening 1.Pairwork Complete the task in 1f. Talk about what Bill, Cindy and Frank can and can’t do. For example: A: Can Bill play the guitar? B:Yes, he can, but he can’t sing./No, she can’t, but she can sing and play the drums. A:... B: ... After two minutes, several students will be invited to act out their conversations. Step8: Language points The teacher will explain relevant language knowledge points, and ensure that students can understand. If students have problems, the teacher must explain them.
