探究二： 知识点解读

1.At 9:00 a.m., they find that most of the babies are already awake and hungry.

awake此处用作形容词，意为“醒着的”。反义词是asleep。

 英语中，awake常用于be, stay, keep, lie之后，作表语；但也可与shake等动词搭配，表示“某人摇醒他人”等。

注意，awake不用于名词前，因此用作定语时要后置。awake不与very搭配使用，表示“完全醒来；十分清醒”用fully awake, wide

awake。

3.The babies often die from illnesses and do not live very long.

die动词,意为“死”, 过去式为died,现在分词为dying。

die from  死于……；因……而死。表示“死于(创伤、劳累、忧愁等外部原因)”。

die of 表示“死于……病”或死于饥饿或过度悲伤等自身原因,但是在表示疾病的名词前用die from或die of都可以。

(1)   他的爷爷于1999年死于癌症。__________________________

4.Scientists say there are now fewer than 2,000 pandas living in the forests.

“There be＋ sb./sth.＋doing sth.＋地点”表示“某地有某人或某物正在做某事”。其中doing sth.是后置定语，与其修饰的词是逻辑上的主谓关系，表示人与动作是主动关系。

在there be句型中，当主语为多个并列的名词时，be动词的形式与离它最近的名词保持一致，即遵循“就近原则”。
