                         Comic strip & Welcome to the unit

    设计说明

    首先通过谚语和良好礼仪行为的话题导入新课,然后学习课本A部分的内容,引导学生做正确的事。通过听力训练来了解在图书馆的注意事项,并仿照B部分编对话。最后学习Comic strip的对话,并讲解本课节的知识点,然后用一些练习来巩固所学知识。

    教学目标

    通过本课节的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    掌握词汇:politely, litter, run, pick, turn, cut inon sb/sth

    2.能力目标

    (1)了解各种礼仪知识;

    (2)用英语谈论如何在公共场所举止得体。

    3.情感目标

    通过了解各种礼仪知识,培养学生良好的行为举止。

    重点难点

    1.重点:了解各种礼仪知识。

    2.难点:用英语谈论如何在公共场所举止得体。

    教学准备

    PPT 课件;相关图片,配套磁带或光盘。

    教学过程

    Step 1  Lead-in

    1. Show a saying about manners and explain the meaning of the saying. 

    Manners make the man.

    The way you speak and the way you behave lead people to know whether you have a good education or not.

    2. Good manners at school.

    In class                      After class

    Listen carefully in class.  Say “Hi” to your classmates.

    Take notes in class.  Chat with each other politely.

    Don’t talk in class.  Don’t make too much noise.

    Don’t eat in class.  Don’t play tricks on others.

    Don’t sleep in class.  Don’t push others.

     

    Step 2  Presentation  

    1. Ask and answer.

    Show some pictures and teach some new words and phrases.

    (1) What should the boy do when he crosses the road?

    He should obey traffic rules.

     

    (2) What is the girl doing?

    She is picking flowers in the park.

    (3) What should we do in the library?

    We should keep quiet in the library.

    (4) What are the man and the woman doing?

    They are dropping litter everywhere.

     

    (5) What is the man doing?

    He is queuing for his turn.

     

    (6) What did the boy do?

    He left the tap running.

    2. Practice Part A on Page 65. Look at the pictures below and match them with the phrases. Write the correct letters in the boxes.

      Answers :1 e, 2 d, 3 c, 4 a, 5 f, 6 b

    3. Summary.

      Look through the six pictures in Part A and ask: Who is doing right and who is doing wrong? Why? Then give a summary what are good manners and what are bad manners.

         Good Manners            Bad Manners

      keep quiet in the library drop litter everywhere

    queue for your turn pick flowers in the park

    Step 3  Discussion

    Show some pictures and discuss:

    What else should we do in public?

    What else shouldn’t we do in public?

           

    We should dress properly in public.

    We should hold the door open when somebody else wants to get into the lift.

    We shouldn’t smoke in public.

    We shouldn’t spit (吐痰) everywhere.

    We shouldn’t carve (雕刻) our names when visiting places of interest.

    Step 4  Listen and practice (Part B on Page 65)

    1. Amy and her cousin Shirley are discussing what they should and should not do in the library. Listen and fill in the blanks.

     

    Good manners

    Bad manners

    chat or ________ in the library

    ________ ________ everywhere

    ________ in the books

      Answers: keep quiet; keep, clean; put, back; eat; drop litter; write

    2. Think and practice.

    (1) Show the dialogue in Part B and make similar dialogue according to the phrases given.

    A: Can we...? a. In the places of interest...

    B: I’m afraid not.  b. In the classroom...

    We should... c. In the cinema...

    A: Anything else?  d. In the meeting room...

    B: Don’t ... Always ...  e. In the shopping mall...

    A: I see. Can we...?  f. While talking to others...

    B: No, we can’t... there.  g. While driving...

    A: Can we...?  h. While having a dinner...

    B: No, we shouldn’t ..., and we... i. While taking a bus/plane...

    (2) Choose some pairs to present their dialogue and then read the sample passage.

    Sample 1

    A: Can we put our feet on the back of the seat while taking a plane?   

    B: I’m afraid not. We should try to sit up straight.

    A: Anything else?     

    B: Don’t talk loudly. Always keep quiet.

    A: I see. Can we listen to music or watch films? 

    B: Yes, but we can’t play it aloud there.

    A: Can we take the blanket home? 

    B: No, we shouldn’t. We should give it back before we get off the plane.

    Sample 2

    A: Can we talk on the phone loudly while watching films?   

    B: I’m afraid not. We should keep quiet all the time.

    A: Anything else?     

    B: Don’t have too many snacks.

    A: I see. Can we eat some fruit? 

    B: You’d better not. Some fruit doesn’t smell good.

    A: Can we record a video of the film? 

    B: No, we shouldn’t. It may break the laws.

    Step 5  Comic strip 

    1. Listen and answer.

    (1)What does Eddie want to teach Hobo?

    (2) How many good manners does Eddie teach Hobo? And what are they?

    (3) What does Eddie really want?

    (4) What does Hobo say to Eddie at last?

    Answers: (1) He wants to teach him good manners.

    (2) He teaches him two good manners.

    First, always share your things with others.

    Second, don’t cut in on others. Always wait politely.

    (3) He wants Hobo’s cake.

    (4) You should learn about manners too. You’re never too old to learn.

    2. Read and act the conversation.

    3. Practice.

         Eddie tells Hobo that he is old ________ to learn about manners. Hobo doesn’t ________ what Eddie means. Eddie starts to ________ Hobo some good manners. First, Eddie asks Hobo to always ________ things with others. While saying so, he takes the ________ from Hobo’s hand.

         Hobo is surprised, and he shouts, “Hey! That’s my ________!” But Eddie asks Hobo to always ________ politely, instead of ________ in on others. Hobo is very ________. He thinks Eddie should learn about manners too.

    Answers: enough, understand, teach, share, cake, cake, wait, cutting, angry

    Step 6  language points

    1. You’re old enough to learn about manners now. 

    现在你年龄足以学礼仪了。

    be + adj./adv.+ enough to do sth 足够……做某事

    Tom is strong enough to carry the box.

    汤姆足够强壮,能搬动这个箱子。

    He runs fast enough to catch up with others.

    他跑得足够快能赶上其他人。

    2. Dont cut in on others. 不要打断别人。

      cut in 插嘴,打断

    She likes cutting in while her teacher is giving a lesson.

    老师上课时她爱插嘴。

    拓展cut in on sb/sth 打断某人谈话,插嘴

    The old man cut in on their conversation just now.

    刚才那位老人打断了他们的谈话。

    Don’t cut in on her. Let her continue speaking.

    别打断她。让她继续发言。

    3. Youre never too old to learn. 活到老,学到老。

    tooto do sth表示“太……而不能做某事” 

    too后跟形容词或副词。

    I’m too busy to take care of my baby. 

    我太忙了,没时间照顾我的小孩。

    He is too young to go to school. =He isn’t old enough to go to school.

    他太小了而不能上学。

    4. queue for your turn 排队等候

      queue for ones turn = wait in line 排队等候

      其中turn 用作名词,意为轮流,(轮流)的顺序

    Please wait for your turn. 请等着轮到你。

      It’s my turn to clean the blackboard today. 今天轮到我擦黑板。

    Step 7  Homework

    1. Review the expressions about manners.

    2. Search for some information about manners in the UK and previewWhen in Rome.

    3. Finish the exercises on the sheet.
