There are many kinds of vehicles, such as riding bicycles, driving cars. Which kind of vehicles do you like? I like riding bicycles. I think riding bicycles is better than driving cars because it saves money and energy. It can avoid air pollution. It has low cost. The bicycle needs less space. Riding bicycles can make us feel tired, but it can let us keep fit. Driving cars saves more time than riding bicycles. But it has high cost. It can cause air pollution. It needs more place than the bicycle. What do you think of?

Winter is dangerous because it’s so difficult to know what is going to happen and accidents take place so easily. Fog can be waiting to meet you over the top of a hill. Ice might be hiding under the melting (融化) snow, waiting ahead (前面) to send you off the road． The car coming to you may suddenly slip across the road．

Rule Number One for driving on icy roads is to drive smoothly (平稳地). Sudden movements can make a car very difficult to control. So every time you either start or stop your car, increase or reduce your speed, you must be as gentle and slow as possible. Suppose you are driving with a full cup of hot coffee on the seat next to you. Drive so that you wouldn’t spill (溅) it.

Rule Number Two is to pay attention to what might happen. The more ice there is, the further down the road you have to look. Test how long it takes to gently stop your car. Remember that you may be driving more quickly than you think. Generally, allow twice of your usual stopping distance when the road is wet, three times this distance on snow, and even more on ice. Try to stay in control of your car at all time and you will not get into trouble.

How to Solve the Problem of Heavy Traffic

The urban traffic is getting increasingly crowded nowadays in China． The roads are packed with cars, bicycles and pedestrians and traffic jams, bus delays and traffic accidents are a common scene. Then how to solve this problem? Some suggest to lay down more roads to make the traffic less crowded and speed up the flow of traffic． Others believe that we should open up more public bus routes, so that more people will take the public buses instead of traveling by cars and bicycles.

Though the above two views sound reasonable, they have their own drawbacks. The former may take up much land which could be used for farms and houses. The latter may cause inconvenience for those who are used to traveling by car or bicycle. I think the best answer to the traffic problem is a combination of the two. More roads can be built to hold more traffic and meanwhile more public bus routes can he opened up to those who prefer to use the public transportation.

Dick lived in England． One day in January he said to his wife, "I'm going to fly to New York next week because I've got some work there." "Where are you going to stay there?" his wife asked． "I don't know yet." Dick answered． "Please send me your address from there in a telegram (电报)," his wife said． "All right," Dick answered．

He flew to New York on January 31st and found a nice hotel in the center of the city. He put his things in his room and then he sent his wife a telegram. He put the address of his hotel in it.

In the evening he didn't have any work, so he went to a cinema． He came out at nine o'clock and said, "Now I'm going back to my hotel and have a nice dinner."

He found a taxi (出租车) and the driver said, "Where do you want to go?" But Dick didn't remember the name and address of his hotel.
