    A
    Four Wreckage Sites in Bermuda
With more than 300 shipwrecks (海难) in its waters,Bermuda is often considered the shipwreck capital of the world. Here Philippe Max Rouja,a Bermuda native, picks four of his favorite wreckage sites.
    King
While most of the wreckage sites were the results of accidents, this boat was placed underwater to create a diving site intentionally.Gary Lamb, the owner of the King, gifted the boat to the Bermuda Dive Association, which placed it at a depth of 65 feet off the island’s south shore.“It’s often considered a divers’ favorite, since you can swim through the boat,” Rouja says.
    B-50 Bomber
While the vast majority of diving sites around Bermuda are the wreckage of ships, there is one that is different from the others:the remains of an airplane. The US B-50 Bomber’s jet engine exploded and the plane dropped into the Atlantic Ocean.“The bomber’s remains now rest about 25 feet underwater,” Rouja says.
    Montana and Constellation
These two wrecks are stacked (堆放) one on top of each other. The Montana,a steamer, sunk after hitting a coral reef (珊瑚礁),while the Constellation,a wooden ship, met a similar fate years later.“Divers can experience the site too, since they are located just eight feet below the surface,” Rouja says.
    Cristobal Colon
Known as the largest of Bermuda’s shipwreck, the Cristobal Colon met its fate when it crashed into a coral reef. There were many attempts to save the ship, but when those failed, paintings and furnishings on it were saved.Today, many of the items on the ship can be found in the homes of Bermudians.“My dad has a painting of a bookseller from Paris hanging in his home,” Rouja says.“The story of the ship persists (存留) in locals’ daily lives.Divers can still access the ship, which sits 80 feet below the surface.”

C.It is the biggest shipwreck in Bermuda.
D.It is formed by two sunken boats piled together.
23.What does Rouja say about Cristobal Colon?
    A.It was saved completely.

    B
Towards the end of high school, one of my best friends and I had a fight. She told me I had no common sense,I replied that she was childish, and in a matter of minutes,we went from inseparable to very separate.
We didn’t speak for most of our senior year.We both found other friends, avoiding each other like the plague (瘟疫).A few months after graduation,I learned that she was having some trouble.I sent her a message:“I’m still here,if you ever need me.” She replied shortly after. We reunited, and thus ended our friendship break.
Friendship breakups aren’t all that uncommon.People grow apart and fight. But friendship breaks are a different story. While they’re often healthy, sometimes, they’re also tough to control.Sometimes, like in my case, they happen suddenly and with zero intentions to reunite. In other situations, they’re more of a slow burn.
Katie,33,says she took a break from her best college friend after a few tense exchanges, like when the friend pressured Katie—then a graduate student on a tight budget—to go on an international trip.“We’d probably been friends for ten years at the time of the break,” Katie says.“I felt that the relationship had stopped being enjoyable.” For four years, she and her friend sent only the occasional text messages. Then,a year and a half ago,the two women happened to move to the same town.“She asked whether I would like to meet,” Katie says,“and we took it slowly, speaking on the phone and going for lunches and a few nights out.”
Once you reconnect, you may find that your friendship is totally different, for better or for worse.“A friendship break allows both friends to reassess the situation and see if they miss each other during the cooling-off period,” says sociologist Jan Yager.“When they do reconnect,it might be with a new perspective.”
24.Why did the author break up with her friend?
A.Because they had a big argument.
B.Because her friend befriended other students.
C.Because her friend avoided the author purposely.
D.Because they got bored with playing with each other.
25.Why did the author send her friend a message?
A.She wanted to share her story. B.She intended to visit her.
C.She still cared about her. D.She needed her help.
26.What do we know about Katie and her friend?
A.They have been friends for over ten years.
    B.They rebuilt their friendship gradually.
C.They were eager to fix the broken friendship.
D.They lost touch with each other after graduation.
27.What’s Jan Yager’s opinion of the friendship break?
A.It will harm friendship in the long run.
B.It is a necessary part of friendship.
    C.It usually results in reconnection.
D.It is a time for reflection.

    C
A small bowl bought at a yard sale in Connecticut for just $35 has been identified as a rare 15th-century Chinese antique.
The blue-and-white bowl was made by China’s royal court during the Ming Dynasty. It is now expected to sell for up to $500,000,according to Sotheby’s auction(拍卖) house in New York, where the auction will take place next month.
The purchase was made last year near New Haven,Connecticut.“I was just hanging around there aimlessly. But when I saw this bowl,I didn’t even bargain over the $35 asking price,” the owner said.Shortly after the purchase,he sent photos of the bowl to auction specialists, who identified it as an item of historical significance.
Upon closer inspection, the artifact was found to have originated from the period of the Yongle Emperor, who ruled from 1402 to 1424—a period noted for its distinctive porcelain(瓷器) techniques. It’s now valued between $300,000 and $500,000,with the top estimate nearly 14,300 times the amount it was purchased for.
“I was deeply attracted by the techniques. You can see why this bowl is so highly-valued from the very smooth porcelain body, silky glaze (釉料)and special blue colouring, which were never reproduced in later dynasties,” McAteer,an auction specialist, said.
“The Yongle Emperor improved the porcelain techniques and elevated the importance of porcelain from being an ordinary bowl into a true work of art. This small bowl has both practical and artistic value,” McAteer said.
28.What can we infer about the bowl’s owner?
A.He found the bowl by accident.
    B.He hesitated during the purchase.
C.He doubted whether the bowl was real.
D.He bought the bowl because it was cheap.
29.What makes the bowl so precious?
A.The blue colour on it. B.The long history it has.
C.The people who made it. D.The unique techniques used.
30.What does the underlined word “elevated” in paragraph 6 probably mean?
    A.Foresaw. B.Promoted. C.Assessed. D.Acknowledged.
31.What’s the best title of the text?
A.An Amazing Bowl B.A Special Yard Sale
C.The Return of Porcelains D.A Man Making Fortune

    D
There are around 100 tribes (部落) that live in global isolation, mostly in South America and India. The Sentinelese have lived on one of the Andaman Islands in Eastern India for 60,000 years. They protect their island by fighting against people from outside.Their language is different from any other known languages.Another Andaman tribe is the Jarawa. In the past, they were independent and fought against anybody trying to make contact with them. But in 1998,the Indian government built a road across their land, and since then, they’ve had more contact with the outside world.
Some Amazon tribes avoid contact because of unhappy memories. The Mashco-Piro left their vegetable gardens after rubber companies killed most of their tribes at the beginning of the 20th century. Those who survived became nomadic (游牧的) and started hunting animals in the forest.
The Awa live in the Amazon forests of Brazil.Out of 350 members,100 have no contact with the outside world. They left their villages and adopted a nomadic lifestyle around 1850 to escape attacks by Europeans. In the following years, farmers in nearby communities started cutting the trees to expand their farmland. The Awa lost most of their hunting land. The few Amazon tribes that still exist are fighting to keep their traditional way of life.
Survival,an organization that fights for the rights of tribal people, says that uncontacted tribes are the most vulnerable (弱势的) humans on the planet and that’s why their environment should be unavailable to the rest of us.After years of pressure, the organization got Brazil’s government to clear non-natives from the Awa land. All non-Awa people are leaving so the tribe can get their forest back.
But some think it’s impossible for tribes to stay isolated forever in a connected world.Contact will be made one day.So the question is:Whose choice should it be,ours or theirs?
32.What can we learn about the Sentinelese from the first paragraph?
A.They resist contact from the outside world.
B.They speak the same language as the Jarawa.
C.They are wild about fighting with other tribes.
D.They have got help from the Indian government.
33.Why did the Awa choose a nomadic lifestyle?
    A.To protect their hunting land.
    B.To search for food sources.
    C.To avoid threats from Europeans.
D.To maintain their original way of life.
34.Which of the following would Survival probably agree with?
A.The tribes should be left undisturbed.
B.The tribes should fight for more living space.
C.The tribes should live in harmony with nature.
D.The tribes should adapt to the connected world.
35.What can be the best title for the text?
A.The Nomadic Tribes in the World
    B.Seeking Survival of Tribes
    C.The Unavailable Tribal Environment
    D.Protecting the Tribal Forests
You have an important test tomorrow. 36 But you’re still worried. You need to relax. What can help?Maybe a quiet walk?A cup of tea?A little yoga?Psychologists have another idea:Sit down and write!Write about your stress.
Why does writing help? There are two reasons.First, your memory works like the memory in a computer. You need to delete (删除) some documents to make room for other documents. 37 So they need a lot of room in their brains for memory. They need to delete their “documents” of stress.Writing helps them by moving the stress out of the brain and putting it on paper. The second reason is writing helps you to focus.People write about their stress. As a result, they feel less worried. Then they can focus better on other things.
Psychologists are studying the connection between stress and writing. They do experiments with students. They put students into two groups. 38 The other group sits quietly. Then all the students take a test. What are the results? The students in the writing group do better than the other group of students.
39 Some people don’t sleep well.Writing at night will help them sleep better. Some athletes get stressed about winning or losing. They can’t focus on playing well.Writing before a game can help them play better.People in job interviews get stressed, too.Writing before an interview can help them relax.
40 Try this experiment:Go to class ten minutes early, and write about your stress. You can write in English or your own language. Then take the test.Maybe the psychologists are right.Maybe writing will help you, too.

A.Do you get stressed about tests?
    B.Writing can help other people,too.
C.Writing can help you perform well in an exam.
D.Students need to remember a lot of information.
E.One group writes about their stress for ten minutes.
F.Do you feel relaxed after writing about your stress?
G.You study very hard and you’re doing well in the class.

About a mile behind our house lay a pond.In summer,my brother Harry and I would run through a stand of trees to throw stones over the water there. The pond wore a collar of black mud.It was not a place for swimming. When winter came, the pond was once again an inviting place.
One day when ice covered it,Harry said to me,“Try walking across.”
The ice looked thick. No water showed through it,but I felt uncertain about it.
“Go ahead,” Harry said.“Try it.You’re lighter than I am.You go first. If the ice holds,we can run and slide on it.It’ll be fun.”
I wanted to please Harry, and I thought about the fun of a long slide on the ice.I began to take steps across the pond.In the middle of the pond, the ice cracked.I threw out my arms. The next thing I knew was hanging on to the edge of a hole in the ice. From my shoulders down I hung in icy water.I thought of the bottom of the pond.I knew it would be black and awful down there.I tried to climb out of the hole, but when I got a knee on the ice,it broke like window glass.Again and again I tried to get out.Again and again the ice broke. The hole widened. As my coat became wet,it pulled me down.I grew tired of trying to get out and rested my arms on the ice.
I looked at Harry on the shore. He just stood there.“I can’t get out!Help me!” I screamed when I caught some breath.

根据第三段小碗的主人所说的话“‘I was just hanging...I didn’t even bargain over the $35 asking price’”可知,小碗的主人在闲逛时偶然发现了这个碗。故选A项。
根据第五段中“‘You can see why this bowl...which were never reproduced in later dynasties’”可知,从这只瓷碗十分光滑的瓷身、丝滑的釉料和特殊的蓝色着色就可以看出它为何如此值钱,并且这些在后来的朝代都从未重现过。
根据尾段中的“‘The Yongle Emperor improved the porcelain techniques...into a true work of art.’”
故选A项。
故选A项。
根据第三段第三句“They left their villages and adopted a nomadic lifestyle around 1850 to escape attacks by Europeans.”
故选A项。
37.D 本段主要分析了写作可以帮助舒缓学生考前焦虑的两个原因,第一个原因围绕学生大脑存储空间进行说明,因此该空后的they指代students,且该空后的“So they need a lot of room in their brains for memory...Writing helps them by moving the stress out of the brain and putting it on paper.”
与该空后的“The other group...”
39.B 根据该段中的“Some people don’t sleep well.”和“Some athletes get stressed about winning or losing.”以及“People in job interviews get stressed”可知,除了学生之外,写作还可以帮助其他有精神焦虑的人。
40.A 根据该空后的“Try this experiment:Go to class ten minutes early, and write about your stress. You can write in English or your own language. Then take the test.”
home“家,故乡”; dream“梦想”; job“工作”; choice“选择”。
nature“自然”;youth“青春”; culture“文化”;knowledge“知识”。
disturbing“令人不安的”; precious“珍贵的”;interesting“有趣的”;awkward“尴尬的”。
damage“危害”;waste“垃圾”;tension“紧张”;pain“疼痛”。
realize“意识到”; agree“同意”; remember“记得”;predict“预测”。
heat“热”; noise“噪声”;disease“疾病”;dust“尘土”。
shelter“庇护,遮蔽”; direction“方向”;partner“同伴”;help“帮助”。
discover“发现”; rebuild“重建”; leave“离开”;manage“想方设法做到”。
tough“艰难的”;illegal“不合法的”;fantastic“难以置信的”; beneficial“有益的”。
collect“收集”;cool down“冷却”; keep off“不接近”;purify“(使)净化”。
continue“继续”;return“回到”;learn“学习”;fail“失败,没有能够”。
treat...with...
between...and...
    62.has been used 考查动词的时态和语态。由前面的up to now 可知,应用现在完成时,又因为“gene therapy”与use之间是被动关系,故填has been used。
    Dear Simon,
Glad to hear from you.I’d like to recommend Zhonghua Weidao to you,a Chinese restaurant near the subway on Hexie Road.
The restaurant serves good traditional Chinese food including dumplings, noodles and various dishes. The prices are very reasonable and that’s probably why it’s popular with young people. Moreover, there is karaoke every evening from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm.It’s a relaxed and informal restaurant and there are always lots of customers.Besides, the service is very nice, fast and helpful.
    Wish you a happy time!
    Yours,
    Li Hua
Harry turned and ran from the pond.As I looked at his back,I wondered:Is he running for help,or is he running away and leaving me to fall to the bottom?I was surprised to see him pick up a large, fallen tree limb.It was V-shaped.He ran with it toward the pond.At the edge,he fell to his stomach, pushed the limb out in front of him,and moved slowly toward me.When a thin top branch was within reach,I took hold of it.It didn’t break.
Hand over hand,I pulled myself from the hole.I began to stand.I wanted to run from the pond as fast as I could.Harry shouted,“Get down!Stay flat on the ice or it’ll break again.” I did as he told me.Harry moved slowly backward towards the shore, pulling the limb.I hung on to a branch and moved slowly towards the shore on my stomach.Once out of the pond,I cried with anger.“Sorry,I shouldn’t have let you go first,” Harry said.It did change him, because since then he’s always gone first whenever we’ve tried something.
