    Amelia Earhart
    Here is the stry f American aviatin pineer Amelia Earhart. Once upn a time, n July 24th 1897, a little girl was brn in Ashes Kansas. Her parents named this little girl Amelia Mary Earhart after bth f her grandmthers. As a child, Amelia was adventurus, spending lts f time with her yunger sister Greece climbing trees, cllecting bugs, hunting rats with their riffle and explring the neighbrhd. Because f this, many histrians have described Earhart as a “tmby” grwing up. When Amelia saw her first plane at the lwa State Fair, she was actually nt impressed at all and asked if she culd g back t the merry-g-arund. Thrughut her teen years, she mved arund the middle west with her family, eventually graduating frm Hyde Park High Schl in Chicag in 1915. After spending a year and a half at schl at Agns and Pennsylvania, Earhart visited her sister in Trnt, Canada. There after seeing wunded sldiers returning frm Wrld War I, she decided t quit schl t wrk as a nurse's aid in a military hspital. While wrking there, Amelia gt t knw many f the wunded pilts and grew t admire them. She spent much f her free time watching the Ryal Flying Cre practicing at biplane. She nicknamed it “The Canary” befre she even had a pilt's license. Amelia had flwn her plane t f14,000 feet, the wrld altitude recrd fr female pilts. On may 15th,1923, Earhart became nly the 16th wman t be issued such a licence. In the mid-1920s, Earhart was nt able t make a living as nly a pilt, s she became a teacher fr a shrt while, and later a scial wrker at Denisn Huse living in Medfrd, Massachusetts. She als wrte lcal newspaper clumns, prmting flying and became a bit f a lcal celebrity. One afternn in April 1928, a phne call came fr Earhart at wrk. At first, she sught the phne call was a prank. “ Hw wuld yu like t becme the first wman t fly the Atlantic,” Captain Hultn Archive asked her n the ther line. “Yes,” Amelia prmptly replied. Here is where Earhart became a wrldwide celebrity. She became the first female t fly acrss the Atlantic cean, but nly as a passenger, as Wilmer Stultz and Lewis Grdn acted as pilts. The flight made headlines arund the wrld because three different pilts had died within the past year trying t be that first wman t a fly acrss the Atlantic. When the three returned t the United States, they were greeted with a parade in new Yrk and a receptin held by President Calvin Clidge at the white huse. Despite the new -fund fame and glry, Amelia still was hungry fr mre, later saying she felt like “it was just like baggage, like a sack f ptates”. Hwever, her celebrity status nw gt her things like an editr psitin in Csmplitan magazine and mney t finance teacher flights. In August 1928, Amelia became the first wman t fly sl acrss the Nrth American cntinent and back. In 1929, she entered Will Rgers Pwer Pufff Derby and placed third. Earhart als became invlved with the Ninety-Nines, an rganizatin f female pilts advancing the supprt and cause f wmen in aviatin. She became their first President in 1930.
