    选做题
    阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
    [A]
It is Natinal Sleep Awareness Week and reflecting n the imprtance f this basic act is timely. As a preventive cardilgist (心脏病专家), I wrk with patients wh want t imprve their health and lengthen their lives. Many f them have majr risk factrs fr heart disease; thers already have full-blwn heart disease r have experienced a heart attack.
Traditinally, patients wh want t imprve their heart health have received fur main suggestins frm their dctrs: Eat a healthy diet, get mre exercise, quit smking, and enjy prper amunts f alchl (酒). Plenty f research backs up these fur pieces f advice: Large studies have fund that making imprvements in these fur areas lwers the chance f dying f heart disease by 67 percent.
But lately, researchers are starting t recgnize that there shuld be five recmmendatins n that list, nt just fur. They're discvering that getting enugh sleep is a pwerful health prtectr as well. When researchers include enugh sleep in their studies as a fifth cardi-preventive behavir change, they find that it lwers the chance f dying f heart disease even mre: Adding a gd seven hurs f sleep a night in additin t making psitive changes in diet, exercise, smking, and alchl intake lwers the chance f dying f heart disease by 83 percent.
When that news started cming ut, dctrs began tagging (添加) sleep nt their list f recmmended health behavir changes. But I dn't think sleep belngs at the bttm f the list. I think it shuld be at the tp! I believe that getting enugh sleep — at least seven t eight hurs per night fr mst peple — is the mst imprtant health behavir change yu can make t imprve the health f yur heart and yur verall health.
Sure, I'd prefer that everyne make all f the big five lifestyle changes, but if I culd nly chse ne, I'd pick sleep because when yu are well-rested, yu have mre pwer t make the right chices abut what yu eat and drink, and yu have mre energy t exercise and yu have the resilience yu need t kick bad habits such as smking and vereating. But when yu're exhausted, everything in life is mre difficult.
    1. What des plenty f research shw abut the 4 cmmn suggestins?
    A. They shuld be recnsidered.
    B. They are the best ways fund s far.

    C. Seven hurs' sleep is mst imprtant t the heart.
    D. The chance f dying f heart disease has drpped.

    A. They tried t ignre it.
    B. They discussed it publicly.
    C. They thught it made sense.
    D. They ttally changed their mind.
    4. What des the last paragraph mainly talk abut?

    C. What prevents peple frm living healthily.
    D. Why the authr makes sleep his N. 1 suggestin.
    [B]
Exams frce students int reviewing what they have been taught, a key t the learning prcess. But I believe the Mntgmery experiment f getting rid f high schl final exams is wrth a try because it culd lead mre students t take a different set f final exams that are much better than thse the schl system is giving up, and it culd push students int taking mre cllege-level curses.
The alternatives are the cllege-level exams taken at the end f Advanced Placement (AP), Internatinal Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced Internatinal Certificate f Educatin (AICE) Cambridge curses already available in Mntgmery high schls.
The exams are at least three hurs lng, cmpared with tw hurs fr finals in Mntgmery Cunty. They usually have mre challenging questins and, mst imprtant, are written and graded by independent experts wh d nt knw the students they are grading.
This is the key difference. AP and IB graders dn't give test takers a break. In Mntgmery, final exams are the victim f plitical r parental pressure fr higher scres r easier questins. AP teachers asked t let up can say that if they d s, their students will get bad grades n an exam they d nt cntrl.
Sme Mntgmery parents cringe at the idea f mre such curses because their children are already taking three, fur r mre a year. I dn't think such students need t d any mre than they are ding. But why nt ask the thusands f students each year wh d nt take these curses and exams t give them a try? Just ne AP r IB wn't hurt them. They will have mre time t study fr the exams because there n lnger will be any regular finals t wrry abut.
Offering such difficult curses t students wh might struggle will displease Stanley Kurtz, wh wrks at the Ethics and Public Plicy Centers. He argues that schls shuld nt let students take them if there is little likelihd f them passing the test.
I think we shuld first bserve schls like Washingtn-Lee, where skilled teachers find that students wh fail AP r IB exams still learn much mre than they wuld in easier curses. Mntgmery will expand its effrts t see hw much mre thse students can benefit frm smething mre challenging.
    5. What plays a key rle in making cllege-level exams different frm high schl finals?
    A. They last fr lnger hurs.
    B. They have harder questins.
    C. The graders are unaffected.
    D. The students get higher scres.
    6. Which can best replace the underlined part “cringe at” in Paragraph 5?
    A. Test.
    B. Dislike.
    C. Prduce.
    D. Encurage.
    7. What's Stanley Kurtz's attitude twards high schlers taking cllege-level curses?
    A. He is against it.
    B. He is in favr f it.
    C. He feels it's wrth a try.
    D. He thinks it must be painful.
    8. What des the authr think f Cambridge curses?
