It was a Sunday and the heavy strm had lasted all night. The mrning after the strm, thugh, was beautiful: blue skies, warm air and a calm, inviting sea tuching the shre gently.
My father realized it was a gd day fr fishing and invited my sister and me t g with him. I was nly 14 and fishing had never been my thing, but I decided t g all the same. I’m s glad I did.
On the rad t the harbr, we culd see the terrible destructin n the cast, but the harbur itself was in fairly gd shape. After all, it was prtected by the arms f a bay that had nly ne tiny channel t the sea. As we gt n bard, we nticed tw big humps (脊背) in the distance.
On appraching them, we saw it was a mther whale with her baby. We culdn’t believe it—there aren’t any whales alng the cast here. The strm must have driven them acrss the cean int the bay, in which the still water was s badly plluted that nthing culd survive.
The little baby whale—actually as big as ur bat—was bviusly stuck and culd nt mve. The mther dived under the water and came up suddenly, making big whirlpls (漩涡) and waves. “She’s trying t help her baby, but n the wrng side,” my father said. At this pint, my father mved ur bat in a semicircle t the ther side and, heading the bat twards the baby whale, pushed it gently. With ur several gentle pushes the big hump turned ver and disappeared under water. Then it swam up right beside its mum. They struggled in their desperate attempts t escape but missed the exit and started heading in the wrng directin. We hurried up t the whales and tried t lead them twards the bay channel. Slwly, they let us lead them, smetimes rising frm the water right beside us t breathe, and t give us a trusting lk with thse huge eyes. Once they hit their first part f clean water flwing straight frm the sea, the mum gave us a wave with her tail and ff they swam int the distance.
In the excitement it had felt like nly a few minutes but we had been with thse wnderful animals fr almst an hur and a half. That was the simple and lasting beauty f the day. Nearly fur decades later, I still lk back fndly t that glden day at sea.
    4. The authr says “I’m s glad I did.” in Para.2 because __________.
    A. he witnessed the whle prcess f fishingB. he enjyed the beauty f the calm sea
    C. he experienced the rescue f the whalesD. he spent the weekend with his family
    5. The harbur survived the strm wing t _________.
    A. the shape f the harburB. the arms f the bay
    C. the still water in the channelD. the lng castline
    6. The mther whale failed t help her baby because _________.
    A. she had stayed in the plluted water fr t lng
    B. the whirlpls she had made were nt big enugh
    C. she had n ther whales arund t turn t fr help

根据文章第五段内容“The mther dived under the water and came up suddenly, making big whirlpls and waves. ‘She’s trying t help her baby, but n the wrng side,’ my father said. At this pint, my father mved ur bat in a semicircle t the ther side and, heading the bat twards the baby whale, pushed it gently.(鲸鱼妈妈潜入水中,突然浮出水面,掀起了巨大的漩涡和波浪。

根据第一段“Erin Alexander was having a hard day. A waitress wrking at Starbucks was t. Erin rdered an iced green tea and tld the waitress t cheer up. After picking up the rder, she nticed a message n the cup: “Erin, yur sul is glden.” Erin Alexander recalled the incident, “Of curse, I was still really sad, but that little thing made the rest f my day.”(艾琳·亚历山大今天过得很艰难。一位在星巴克工作的女服务员也是。艾琳点了一杯冰绿茶,让女服务员高兴起来。拿到订单后,她注意到杯子上有一条信息:“艾琳,你的灵魂是金色的。”艾琳·亚历山大回忆起这件事,“当然,我仍然很难过,但那件小事让我度过了一天。”)”可知,本段讲述了小的善意让双方都感到快乐,以及第二段“New findings, published in the Jurnal f Experimental Psychlgy in August, prve just hw pwerful experiences like Erin’s can be. Researchers fund that peple wh perfrm a randm act f kindness tend t underestimate hw much the recipient will appreciate it.( 8月发表在《实验心理学杂志》上的新发现证明了像艾琳这样的经历影响有多大。研究人员发现,那些随意做出善举的人往往会低估接受者的感激程度)”可知,第一段的功能是引出本文的话题,随意做善事的人往往会低估接受者的感激程度。故选B。
    【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“In that experiment, the peple ding the kind thing cnsistently underestimated the appreciatin they received, accrding t Amit Kumar, a psychlgy prfessr at the University f Texas. (得克萨斯大学心理学教授阿米特·库马尔表示,在那次实验中,做好事的人一直低估了他们所得到的感激)”可知,做好事的人低估了他们所得到的感激,即接受者表现出的感激会比给予者所想到的更多。故选C。
    【10题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段““Peple tend t think that what they are giving is kind f little, maybe it’s relatively incnsequential,” Dr. Kumar said. “But recipients are less likely t think alng thse lines. They cnsider the gesture t be significantly mre meaningful because they are als thinking abut the fact that smene did smething nice fr them.”(库马尔博士说:“人们倾向于认为他们所付出的有点少,也许相对来说incnsequential。”“但接受者不太可能这样想。他们认为这一姿态更有意义,因为他们也在考虑有人为他们做了好事。”)”可知,人们倾向于认为自己做的很少,推测划线单词表示“微不足道的”,与Insignificant意思相近。故选A。
根据第二段“New findings, published in the Jurnal f Experimental Psychlgy in August, prve just hw pwerful experiences like Erin’s can be. Researchers fund that peple wh perfrm a randm act f kindness tend t underestimate hw much the recipient will appreciate it. And they believe that miscalculatin culd hld many f us back frm ding nice things fr thers mre ften. (8月发表在《实验心理学杂志》上的新发现证明了像艾琳这样的经历影响有多大。研究人员发现,那些随意做出善举的人往往会低估接受者的感激程度。他们认为,误判可能会阻碍我们中的许多人更经常地为他人做好事)”以及全文内容可知,文章主要介绍了研究人员发现,随意做善事的人往往会低估接受者的感激程度,研究者希望通过这个结果能鼓舞更多地人做好事,因此推断A项“小善意的力量”为最佳标题。故选A。
    D
“My P.E. teacher taught me maths.” It has been a cmmn jke fr years but when a P.E. teacher applied fr the head-teacher jb, many parents wrried that “the jke culd cme true”. Sme parents asked, “Des the P.E. teacher knw maths and English? If nt, hw is he suppsed t tutr the students?” But there were still parents wh believed P.E. teachers had mre time t discipline the students since they didn’t have many classes.
This cncern is actually a “subject prejudice”, that is, chsing a P.E. teacher as the head-teacher is nt gd fr the students’ grades since he desn’t knw Chinese, maths, r English. It is acceptable fr Chinese teachers, maths teachers and English teachers t be head-teachers because these subjects are imprtant t entrance exams and scres. Such a cncern reflects parents’ anxiety in the current educatinal envirnment, which tends t link the head-teacher’s respnsible subject with the facts whether the schl cares abut the class and the children’s perfrmances in the subject.
Many peple care abut their kids’ academic perfrmances nly. They dn’t care abut their kids’ P.E. perfrmance at all. Even if kids have P.E. classes, parents care little. P.E. teachers are in humble psitin and their classes are ften ccupied by ther teachers. Of curse, if students’ P.E. perfrmance is related t grades and entrance exams, parents wn’t mind “a P.E. teacher being the head-teacher”.
At the mment, P.E. is gradually included in entrance exams.
In terms f high schl entrance examinatin, Guangzhu will launch a new high schl entrance exam which includes P.E. perfrmance and Health examinatin in 2021, raising the scre t 70 pints.
In terms f the cllege entrance examinatin, universities having the right f independent enrllments added P.E. tests t their entrance exams in 2019. This practice is seen as an imprtant signal that the assessment f physical fitness and athletic ability, which are imprtant aspects f a student’s verall quality, may be included in the cllege entrance examinatin in the future.
We hpe that it’s a trend fr P.E. teachers, music teachers and art teachers t becme head-teachers.
    12. By saying “My P.E. teacher taught me maths” in Para.1, what des the authr intend t shw us?
    A. It is just a jke that seldm happened in reality.
    B. P.E. teachers hardly assist students in maths.
    C. P.E. teachers are gd at teaching maths.

    B. is humbler than Chinese, math r English teachers
    C. reflects whether the schl cares abut the class
    D. gets unfairly judged due t the current educatinal system
    14. Why d independent enrllments add P.E. test t their entrance exams?
    A. T raise students’ awareness f physical health.
    B. T call n parents t pay attentin t P.E. teachers.
    C. T test the academic ability f high schl students.
    D. T make P.E. teachers equal with ther teachers.
    15. What pinin des the authr hld twards P.E. teachers wrking as head-teachers?
    A. Neutral.B. Indifferent.

根据第一段“Sme parents asked, “Des the P.E. teacher knw maths and English? If nt, hw is he suppsed t tutr the students?”(有些家长问:“体育老师懂数学和英语吗?”如果不懂,他又怎么教学生呢? ”)”可推知,通过说“我的体育老师教我数学”,作者想告诉我们的是人们怀疑体育老师的能力。故选D项。
    【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“This cncern is actually a “subject prejudice”, that is, chsing a P.E. teacher as the head-teacher is nt gd fr the students’ grades since he desn’t knw Chinese, maths, r English. It is acceptable fr Chinese teachers, maths teachers and English teachers t be head-teachers because these subjects are imprtant t entrance exams and scres.
