Nw an interesting effrt is underway t study and prtect the reefs(礁). Aran Mney, a marine bilgist, is part f a netwrk f scientists wh’ve set up underwater micrphnes t essentially listen in n marine life.
“It’s just really striking what we can learn withut actually visually bserving,” says Mney. “Just by listening—quiet listening—we can bserve what the animals are ding ut there in the cean.”
The scientists are racing t recrd these sunds at reefs threatened by climate change and pllutin. The cral reef ff the U. S. Virgin Islands recrded in 2013, when it was abundant, includes a wide range f sunds. Shrimp pp bubbles. Whales and fish call ut. A year ag, the scientists recrded a reef in the same area that had been degraded by pllutin. This time mst f the sunds were gne.
The animals have lng departed-starting with the tiny larvae (幼虫) that are needed t build up new cral. But Mney’s team has started an experiment: Setting up underwater speakers t bradcast their recrdings f the reef frm 2013 in hpes f attracting back the cral larvae. Mney explains that these tiny jellyfish-like animals get released frm healthy reefs and then flat fr a while in the sea lking fr a place t settle. A healthy habitat is super imprtant fr them because that’s ging t be their permanent lcatin fr the rest f their life. Once they attach themselves at the bttm, there’s n chance f mving.
T the scientists’ delight, the effrt seems t be wrking. Cmpared t a degraded reef where they’re nt playing sunds, the reef that they’re acustically (声学上) enhancing get mre cral settlement. Specifically, abut tw t three times as much settlement. It will take a few mre years t see if, as the cral gets re-established, mre fish return as well. But Mney says the results s far suggest an encuraging pssibility: All these recrdings dn’t have t be ne mre reminder f a disappearing wrld. They culd be a key t restring it.
8.What is an effrt made by Mney’s team?
A.Observing marine animals visually.B.Recrding the sund underwater.
C.Racing with ther research grups.D.Cmmunicating with marine animals.

Tesla’s self-driving cars have recently cme under investigatin as a reprt n crashes raises questins abut their safety. Despite Tesla CEO Eln Musk’s claim that their Autpilt capability makes their cars “unequivcally (毫不含糊地) safer,” data suggests therwise.
Accrding t The Washingtn Pst, the number f deaths and serius injuries assciated with Tesla’s driver-assistance technlgy is higher than previusly reprted. The Natinal Highway Traffic Safety Administratin (NHTSA) recrded 736 crashes since 2019, with at least17 f them being fatal. These figures include crashes invlving bth Autpilt, which allws cars t drive n highways withut human interventin, and the newer Full Self-Driving feature, which extends autmatin t city streets. Hwever, these statistics can’t recrd incidents that were avided due t the cars’ safety features. Additinally, when cmpared t the ttal number f car crashes that ccurred last year, the number f crashes invlving driver-assistance vehicles appears relatively small, but actually it’s nt.
Tesla’s safety claims lack cntext as Autpilt is primarily designed fr highways, while mst accidents ccur in mre cmplex envirnments with crss-traffic, pedestrians, and cyclists. Mrever, Tesla’s custmer base cnsists mainly f wealthier individuals wh live in cmmunities with lwer accident rates.
Cncerns are raised by Tesla’s request t the NHTSA nt t reveal whether Autpilt r Full Self-Driving was in use during fatal crashes. This lack f transparency (透明) prevents a cmprehensive analysis f the incidents and raises questins abut respnsibility.
Safety exaggeratins (夸大) cmbined with Tesla’s aggressive marketing have led t accidents caused by drivers relying t heavily n the system. Full Self-Driving des nt allw the car t fully drive itself, and drivers are expected t remain attentive and ready t intervene at all times. Hwever, Tesla’s messaging may mislead sme users int believing therwise.
While a driverless future has the ptential t be safer, it is crucial nt t cnvince the public that underdevelped capabilities are ready fr widespread use. Tesla shuld address past prblems, ensure their autmatin set can detect emergency vehicles, and be transparent with the public abut the limitatins f their technlgy. Rushing the implementatin f such technlgy withut addressing its limitatins culd lead t serius cnsequences n the rad.
12.What can we learn abut Tesla’s driver-assistance-related crashes frm paragraph 2?
    A.736 fatal cases f self-driving are recrded.
    B.NHTSA fcused n the crashes n highways.
C.The ttal number f car crashes is extremely small.
D.The incidents avided are nt cunted in the crash statistics.
13.What can be inferred abut Tesla’s safety claims?
A.They are supprted by cmprehensive data.
B.They are based n limited driving envirnment.
C.They are restricted t the experiences f satisfied custmers.
D.They have been prven t be accurate and reliable by NHTSA.
14.What can we knw abut Full Self-Driving?
    A.It is ill-received.B.It is well-develped.
C.It needs the driver t stay fcused.D.It reduces the accidents greatly.
15.Which title best summarizes the cntent f this text?
    A.Cncerns and Questins Surrunding Tesla’s “Self-Driving” Cars
B.Tesla’s Self-Driving Cars: The Safest Optin f Driving n the Rad
    C.The Future f Self-Driving Cars: A Clser Lk at Tesla’s Technlgy
