The runners in the study averaged between 1 and 10 kilometres per hour. .

Eco City Farms are becoming more popular in cities and towns around the United States.

Eco City Farms in Maryland are located near shopping centres, car repair shops and homes. The neighbourhood is a working-class community. People do not have very much money. And they have limited access to fresh food in markets.

Over the past two years, the farm has attracted volunteers from the community like Marcy Clark. She schools her four children at home. On a recent day she brought them to Eco City Farms for a lesson, and her son Alston Clark thinks his experience is very valuable. “I like coming out here,” he says. “You know, you connect with the earth, where your food comes from. You appreciate the food a little bit more.”

Margaret Morgan started Eco City Farms. She thinks of them as places where people can learn to live healthier lives. “Growing food in a community brings people together,”she continues. “Every piece of what we do here is a demonstration(范例) to show people everything about how to have an eco-friendly community,” she says. From the Eco City Farms people come to know that they are not only growing food and raising chickens and bees, but improving the soil with compost(混合肥料) made from food waste.

Eco City Farms are an experimental operation. The farm gets its power not from the local electricity networks, but from the sun with solar panels(). In winter, the green-houses use a geothermal(地热的) system.

Vegetables can be grown all year round. So once a week, all winter long, neighbours like Chris Moss and her three children bike to the farm to pick up a share of the harvest.

“I like eating the vegetables,” says five-year-old Owen Moss.

In the world today, hunger is still the biggest threat to health. Hunger holds back children’s growth and their dreams. Around 67 million of the world’s hungriest children do not attend school.  1.      Even if they do make it into the classroom, hunger will affect their ability to learn.

Mary’s Meals is a Scottish charity that was started in 1992.  2.      It sets up school feeding projects in some of the world’s poorest countries. The charity provides one daily meal in schools to attract hungry children to the classroom, where they receive education to get out of poverty. Thanks to the supporters and volunteers around the world, Mary’s Meals is now providing life-changing meals to 1,425,013 poorest children in 15 countries.

    3.      It has reduced hunger among children at school. Many children, teachers and volunteers observed the positive physical effects that the school feeding programme is making. The percentage of teachers saying “children in my class never complain of hunger” increased from 7% to 87%.

    4.      98% of teachers said that children pay more attention in class since Mary’s Meals started feeding at their school.

It has reduced levels of children quitting school! Teachers reported a reduction in the number of children dropping out of school due to hunger.

It has increased children’s feelings of happiness at school. The percentage of children saying “I feel happy at school” increased from 60% to 81%.

By one meal at a time and one child at a time, Mary’s Meals fills hungry children’s empty stomachs so they have the energy and opportunity to learn.  5.

A.Most of them hate to go to school.

B.It has improved children’s concentration in class.

E.This offers the children a life free from hunger and full of hope.

F.Since then it has grown from a small organization to a global movement.

G.They are reaching out to more hungry children waiting for Mary’s Meals.

be likely to do sth意为可能做某事

故填was based

故填what

根据第三、四段所使用的语言“…the farm has attracted volunteers…”“From the Eco City Farms people come to know…”

根据第二段第一、二句“…are located near shopping centres, car repair shops and homes. The neighbourhood is a working-class community.”

根据第三段倒数第二句中的“…connect with the earth…”,第四段最后一句中的“…improving the soil with compost(混合肥料) made from food waste.”及第五段中的“…from the sun with solar panels(). In winter, the greenhouses use a geothermal(地热的) system.”

C“In order to survive, they have to work or beg.(为了生存,他们必须工作或乞讨。)”

1992F“Since then it has grown from a small organization to a global movement.(从那时起,它从一个小组织发展成为一个全球性的运动。)”

B“It has improved children’s concentration in class.(它提高了孩子们在课堂上的注意力。)”

E“This offers the children a life free from hunger and full of hope.(这为儿童提供了免于饥饿和充满希望的生活。)”
