But recently, Huawei faced some difficulties. The USA government ordered a ban(禁令) on its sales in America. America officials said Huawei gace information that it collected to the Chinese government. At the same time, the USA government planned to stop selling parts and services to Huawei, which was believed that Huawei’s business would be hurt.
“We have never received such request from Chinese government and we have never tried to get into other systems to collect information.” Ren Zhengfei, Huawei’s founder and president said. “The ban from the USA would have little influence on our company. Huawei has enough ability to deal with the problems.” Ren added.
In an interview several years ago, Ren Zhengfei said, “I started Huawei with only 4000 yuan at then beginning, but now it has become a $100 billion company. The experience was not as romantic as you imagine.”
Facing the ban of USA, Huawei is growing. Huawei’s smart phone sales around the world rose 50 percent compared to a year earlier in the first three months of 2019. At the same time, sales from both Samsung and Apple declined. So far, Huawei has grown in to the world’s largest telecommunications equipment(电信设备)supplier, selling in 170 countries. For some Chinese high school students, passing Gaokao is the final goal of their careers. They believe that once they enter college, life will be easy. However, getting a college degree will soon require more efforts than before.
According to a document released(发布) recently by the Ministry of Education, it will strengthen measures to control the quality of higher education. For example, college students who failed exams got another chance to pass them before graduation. Many colleges did this so that more students could receive diplomas(文凭). However, the new document says this practice will be banned.
Such loose(宽松的)policies led to many students skipping class and getting themselves in video games, reported China Youth Daily.
“The assessment standards in universities aren’t very high,” Sang Guoyuan, a professor of education at Beijing Normal University, told The Economic Observer. “Many poorly performing students are given passes by teachers as long as they attend classes.”
As a result, Chinese universities have relatively high graduation rate compared to Western ones. According to a study released by Xiamen University in 2016, among 820 universities in China, both the average graduation rate and the average degree awarding rate had reached about 97%. However, the average graduation rate of top US universities only reached about 89%.
Xiong Bingqi, chief director of the 21st Century Education Research Institute, told China Daily, “US universities keep students under competitive pressure by giving them challenging tasks.”
Chen Xiao, a researcher at Beijing Normal University, hopes the move will improve the quality of higher education.
“A quite common phenomenon in the past was children studying hard in primary schools, middle schools and high schools, but playing hard at college because they thought they had finished the hardest part of their lives,” Chen told China Daily.
“Now it is much better, with colleges strengthening the quality of higher education. But more still needs to be done,” Chen added.
    42. How will Chinese education change, according to the article?
    A. The Gaokao exam will be more difficult.
    B. Students who skip class will not receive diplomas.
    C. College students will have to work harder to earn a degree.
    D. College students who fail an exam will not receive diplomas.
    43. Why did the Ministry of Education release the document?
    A. To improve the quality of higher education.
    B. To encourage teachers to improve their teaching.
    C. To compete with Western countries’ higher education.
    D. To prevent students from spending too much time on video games.
    44. What does Chen Xiao think of the move?
    A. Chinese higher education would improve.
    B. The number of university students might go down.
    C. College students would be under too much pressure.
    D. It will encourage students to work hard from primary school.
    45. What will the writer continue to talk about after the passage?
    A. More ways to make it difficult to get a college degree.
    B. The results of strengthening the quality of higher education.
    C. The differences between Chinese universities and US universities.
    D. The reasons for improving the assessment standards in universities.
    E
When you are shopping for the week’s food, you may get a large box or two of bottled water. On your way to a soccer game, it’s easy to take a cold one out of the fridge, right?
But all those plastic bottles use a lot of fossil fuels(矿物燃料). In fact, Americans buy more bottled water than any other country in the world, about 29 billion water bottles a year. In order to make all these bottles, 17 million barrels(桶) of crude oil are used. That's enough oil to keep a million cars going for twelve months.
Americans drink bottled water because they think it is better for them than water out of the tap, but that’s not true. In the United States, local governments make sure water from the tap is safe. People love the convenience(便利)of bottled water. But maybe if they realized the problems it causes, they would try drinking from a glass at home or carrying water in a steel container instead of a plastic bottle.
Plastic bottles pollute the environment but recycling can help—instead of going   out with the rubbish, plastic bottles can be turned into useful items. Sadly, for every six water bottles we use, only one makes it to the recycling bin. The rest are sent to landfills. Or, even worse, they end up as rubbish on the land and in rivers, lakes, and the ocean. Plastic bottles take many hundreds of years to disintegrate under the ground.
Betty Mclaughlin, who runs an organization called the Container Recycling Institute, says we should try using fewer bottles: “If you take one to school for your lunch, don't throw it away—bring it home and refill it from the tap for the next day. Refill a bottle as many times as you can before you recycle it.”
Remember this: Recycling one plastic bottle can save enough energy to power a 60-wat(瓦)light bulb for six hours.
    46. Which one is NOT the reason why Americans like bottled water?
    A. Because it is cleaner. B. Because it is cheaper.
    C. Because it is healthier. D. Because it is easier to take with.
    47. In Paragraph 2, how does the writer support the fact?
    A. By giving numbers.
    B. By telling reasons.
    C. By expressing opinions.
    D. By discussing problems.
    48. The word "disintegrate" in Paragraph 4 probably means ______.
    A. turn into rubbish
    B. become useful
    C. break into pieces
    D. mix with water
    49. Which of the following is an opinion?
    A. American buy the most bottled water in the world.
    B. Bottled water is much better than out of the tap.
    C. Only one of the six bottles is put into the recycling bin.
    D. 17 million barrels of oil are used to make bottles a year.
    50. What is the writer's main purpose in writing this article?
    A. To tell us to give up bottled water.
    B. To tell us to save natural resources.
    C. To tell us to protect the environment.
    D. To tell us to reuse and recycle plastic bottles.

    五、阅读填空 (1’*20=20’)
    A)任务型阅读
Every student can manage time to get good grades at school. However, how can you manage your time more efficiently(有效地)to study well? Well, you can arrange for time each day to read over notes. You needn’t study each of your subjects every day, but studying something every day will help you improve your grades. Take notes as you study, so you can use those notes to shorten your study time later. Even though studying is important, it doesn’t need to control your time.
After-school activities are an important part of school life for many students. The journey toward good grades doesn’t mean you have to give up these activities. Instead, you need to find your personal balance between study time and after-school activities. For example, if you play on the baseball team and work on the school paper, you may find that two activities are too much, and that you don’t have enough time to study and take part in these activities. If this is the case, you need to prioritize(区分优先次序)and choose just one activity. Therefore, you’ll have time to study.
As you get closer to graduation(毕业), it becomes easier to think that class attendance isn’t important, especially later in college. Other activities, such as hanging out(聚会) with friends and even working, can feel more important. However, class time is the time when you can ask questions and learn more about the material. Attending your classes regularly makes you get more information and helps you get better grades.
Spending time with your friends and taking part in fun activities are still important; however, you must evaluate(评估)each situation and learn when to say “no” to going out to have fun. For example, if you have a big test the next day, it’s more important for you to say home and study. However, if the test isn’t for a few more days, it won’t hurt to go out for one or two hours. Each person can spend some time in having fun.
Any spare time you have during the day can be used for studying. For example, if you take a bus, use that time to read over your notes, or read your text. Any time in which you would just sit and wait is a good time to work on school work, so you can improve your grades. However, you need to learn to balance school work and relaxation time, so you don’t burn out.
