One morning a deer rushed into a courtyard where a little boy was playing. The deer hooked the boy’s clothing with its antlers (角). This scared the little boy so much that he let out a loud cry which brought his mother running out to see what was happening. She came out just in time and saw the deer running off towards the mountains with her little boy.
The mother was so afraid! She ran after the deer as fast as she could, and not too far away, she found her son sitting on the grass safely. Seeing his mother, the little boy laughed and reached out his arms to her. His mother held him tight. She was so happy that she cried.
She hurried back with her dear son. When she got home, she was amazed at what she saw. The huge tree behind her house had fallen down while she was out running after the deer. The whole house was destroyed under the tee’s great weight.
Then the mother remembered the day about a year before when a deer, fleeing from a hunter, had run into her house. She felt sorry for the frightened deer, so she covered it with some clothes and let it return to the forest.
The deer seemed to understand that she had saved its life. When leaving, it kept bowing its head to her, as if it were thanking her for her kindness.
She never imagined that the deer could remember her help. It somehow knew the tree was going to fall and kill her and her son, so it came back to save them.
When the mother remembered all this, she said, “Saving the life of another is the same as saving the life of your own.”
    4. What happened when the mother ran out of the house?
    A. A deer escaped into her house. B. Her son was carried away by a deer.
    C. The big tree behind her house fell down. D. Her son was sitting safely on the ground.

①The mother saved the deer from the hunter. ②The mother ran after the deer.
③The deer carried the boy away. ④The house was damaged by the fallen tree.
⑤The boy was found sitting on the ground safely.
    A. ①④⑤②③ B. ①③②⑤④ C. ②①④⑤③ D. ④①⑤②③
    6. What can we learn about the mother?
    A. She was strong. B. She was anxious. C. She was kind. D. She was smart.

    A. A Life-saving Story B. Woman Saving Her Son
    C. Helping the Deer D. Saving A Deer, Saving A Dear

Ask 9-year-old Annie what the worst thing was that ever happened in her house last year, and she won’t tell you that it was her parents divorcing, although they did. No, what Annie remembers most are the horrible fights leading up to the announcement about the divorce which was, as it turned out, and despite her parents anxiety about telling her, “not that big of a deal.” “I already knew they were not getting along well,” Annie says, “Every night after I went to bed, l would hear my parents fighting.” It made me really unhappy. When they finally decided to get a divorce, all of that stopped.
Annie's experience is more common than you might think, and there is a great deal of evidence to suggest that “staying together for the sake of the children” is not all it's cracked up to be, and may do more harm than good. According to psychologist Lynn Martingdale, hearing their parents argue is often more stressful for children than separation and divorce, and if you think that your children don’t know that there's trouble in family, then you're kidding yourself. The home life of children whose parents have an unhappy marriage is often far from ideal, and what's worse, parents will compound the problem by taking their unhappiness out on the children.
The Center for Moving Forward conducted a study in 2014 in which they followed 25families whose parents had been in marriage counseling. After tracking these families for 5 years, they found that the children of the parents who had eventually gotten divorced were not worse off than the children of those who had remained together, and in some cases had fared better. The study took into consideration, social and the children's general sense of well-being.
    8. Why was Annie really unhappy according to paragraph 1?
    A. Her parents fought every night. B. Her parents finally got divorced.
    C. Her parents decided to abandon her. D. Her parents got along badly with her.
    9. Which statement may psychologist Lynn Martingdale agree with?
    A. Separation and divorce will hurt the children most.
    B. Keeping an unhappy marriage hurts children more.
    C. Children can't understand their parents' marriage well.
    D. Children can’t feel the unhappiness from their parents.
    10. What's the function of the last paragraph in the passage?
    A. To give an example of divorce.
    B. To support Annie's correct answer.
    C. To further clear the author's view point.
    D. To highlight the importance of the study.
    11. What is the best title for the passage?
    A. Divorce Is Good for Children B. Divorce Is Not the Worst Thing
    C. Fighting Is Often Stressful D. Staying Together Is for Children Only
A 9. B 10. C 11. B
Annie says, “Every night after I went to bed, l would hear my parents fighting.” It made me really unhappy.(安妮说,“每天晚上我睡觉后,我都会听到父母吵架。”“这让我很不开心。) 可知,安妮不高兴的原因是她的父母每天晚上都吵架,故选A。
    9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段的According to psychologist Lynn Martingdale, hearing their parents argue is often more stressful for children than separation and divorce…The home life of children whose parents have an unhappy marriage is often far from ideal…(根据心理学家Lynn Martingdale,听他们的父母吵架对孩子来说比分居和离婚更有压力…
根据最后一段的they found that the children of the parents who had eventually gotten divorced were not worse off than the children of those who had remained together, and in some cases had fared better.(他们发现,最终离婚的父母所生的孩子并没有比那些仍在一起的父母所生的孩子更糟糕,在某些情况下,他们的情况更好。)
    D
A new report has concluded that advertising managers are becoming increasingly interested in children. Studies show that children influence about 50 percent of things that families buy, so they’re an attractive target for advertisers.
John Taylor, the author of the report, says:“Advertisers can reach their target in many ways. They can, for example, show an ad many times during school holidays, they can make the TV advertisements a little louder than the programmes to attract attention, or they can sponsor programmes and show their advertisements just before the programme begins.”
Most advertisements aimed at children are short, imaginative and often in the form of animated cartoons(动画片).“Children love the ads and watch them in the same way as any entertainment programmer,”Taylor says.
There’re concerns about advertising aimed at young people. The concerns are shared by Sarah Durham, a writer and journalist specializing in media analysis. “The most worrying thing is that children don’t think carefully when they see television advertisements. They’re less critical than adults and don’t usually realise the advertisement has a persuasive message, to encourage them or their parents to spend as much money as possible on the product or service,”she says.
There’re also concerns over the vast sums of money that junk food producers spend on advertising to persuade children to buy their food products. Many advertisements, argues Durham, sell food that is a lot higher in fat, salt and sugar than healthier alternatives. “Many companies target children with offers of free toys, models of cartoon characters and gimmicky(耍花招的)packaging.”
Government approaches to controlling advertising to children vary. In Sweden, one of the strictest countries where advertising is concerned, TV advertising to children under the age of 12 is banned. Greece bans television advertisements for children’s toys between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. Denmark and the Netherlands also have legal controls whereas France, Britain and Germany prefer self-regulation(自动调节).
Some countries are not as certain as the Swedes that advertising to children is harmful. The French argue that children need to see many advertisements so that they can develop their ability to think as they grow up. The belief is that advertising will help children to be more aware of its persuasive power.
    12. What does John Taylor mainly talk about in Paragraph 2?
    A. Ways in which advertisers reach children.
    B. The time children spend watching television.
    C. Examples of successful advertising to children.
    D. The serious problems of advertising to children.
    13. Why is Sarah Durham concerned about advertising aimed at children?
    A. TV ads limit children’s imagination.
    B. TV ads affect children’s brain development.
    C. Children lack the good sense to make decisions.
    D. Children may spend lots of time watching television.
    14. What does Durham say about the food advertised?
    A. It’s tasty. B. It’s cheap.
    C. It’s unhealthy. D. It’s readymade.
    15. What is the French’s attitude toward advertising to children?
    A. Doubtful. B. Relaxed.
    C. Objective. D. Unfavorable.
A 13. C 14. C 15. B
根据文章第二段“John Taylor, the author of the report, says: “Advertisers can reach their target in many ways. They can, for example, show an ad many times during school holidays, they can make the TV advertisements a little louder than the programmers to attract attention, or they can sponsor programmers and show their advertisements just before the programmer begins.””(这份报告的作者约翰•泰勒(John Taylor)表示:“广告商可以通过多种方式达到他们的目标。例如,他们可以在学校放假期间多次播放一则广告,他们可以使电视广告的声音比原定节目大一些,以吸引注意力,或者他们可以赞助节目,在节目开始前播放他们的广告。”)可知,第二段主要在讲对儿童做广告的方式。故选A项。
根据文章第四段““The most worrying thing is that children don’t think carefully when they see television advertisements. They’re less critical than adults and don’t usually realize the advertisement has a persuasive message, to encourage them or their parents to spend as much money as possible on the product or service,” she says.”(“最令人担忧的是,孩子们在看电视广告时没有认真思考。 他们没有成年人那么挑剔,通常不会意识到广告中有说服力的信息来鼓励他们或他们的父母在产品或服务上花费尽可能多的钱。”她说。)可知,Sarah Durham担心的是孩子们缺乏做决定的判断力。故选C项。
    【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章倒数第三段“There are also concerns over the vast sums of money that junk food producers spend on advertising to persuade children to buy their food products. Many advertisements, argues Durham, sell food that is a lot higher in fat, salt and sugar than healthier alternatives. “Many companies target children with offers of free toys, models of cartoon characters and gimmicky(耍花招的)packaging.””(人们还担心垃圾食品生产商会花费巨额广告来说服儿童购买他们的食品。
根据文章最后一段“Some countries are not as certain as the Swedes that advertising to children is harmful. The French argue that children need to see many advertisements so that they can develop their ability to think as they grow up. The belief is that advertising will help children to be more aware of its persuasive power.”(有些国家不像瑞典人那样肯定广告对儿童有害。
As a student, you have a lot of freedom when it comes to how you spend your time. But with that freedom comes the responsibility to make the most of your studying hours. Here are some tips to help you do just that.
    • Create a schedule
This means setting aside specific times for studying each day and then sticking to that schedule as closely as possible. Of course, there will be days when things come up, and you have to deviate from your plan. ____16____.
    • Break up your study sessions into smaller periods
Our brain can’t focus effectively for a longtime. If you try to study for several hours once, chances are much higher that you won’t remember all of the information you’re trying to learn. ____17____.
    • Find a study place that works for you
____18____ Some people prefer to study in complete silence, while others find that some background noise helps them focus better. There is no right or wrong answer here — it’s all about finding a place to study that allows you to work as efficiently as possible.
    • ____19____
This will not only help you check your understanding of the concepts but also identify any area that may need more review. And once you know what specific topics or ideas you need to work on, it will be much easier for you to direct your study sessions accordingly and make better use of your time overall.
    • Don’t be afraid to ask for help
If you find that you’re struggling to understand the material or just not making progress as quickly as you’d like, seek assistance in time. ____20____. In fact, it can save lots of time in the long run by getting you the support you need.
    A. Take relevant tests
    B. Learn to accept failure
    C. There is no shame in admitting that you need assistance
    D. Make sure that every minute you spend studying counts
    E. However, try not to go off-track too often or for too long
    F. Where you study can also affect how effectively you use your time
    G. Instead, divide your study sessions up into shorter periods to help you relax and recharge
E 17. G 18. F 19. A 20. C
由上文“This means setting aside specific times for studying each day and then sticking to that schedule as closely as possible. Of course, there will be days when things come up, and you have to deviate from your plan.(这意味着每天要留出特定的学习时间,然后尽可能严格地遵守这个时间表。当然,总有一天事情会发生,你不得不偏离你的计划)”可知,上文讲有时我们会因为临时事情偏离计划,E项中go off-track和上文deviate from your plan对应。故E选项“然而,尽量不要太频繁或太长时间偏离轨道”符合语境,故选E。
    【17题详解】
根据本段小标题“• Break up your study sessions into smaller periods(•把你的学习过程分成更小的阶段)”及本段所述内容“Our brain can’t focus effectively for a longtime. If you try to study for several hours once, chances are much higher that you won’t remember all of the information you’re trying to learn.(我们的大脑无法长时间有效地集中注意力。如果你试着一次学习几个小时,你很有可能记不住你想学的所有信息)”可知,本段主要讨论为了提高学习效率,可以将学习时间分成若干个时段以便能高效学习,故G选项“相反,把你的学习过程分成更短的时间段来帮助你放松和充电”符合语境,故选G。
    【18题详解】
由后文“Some people prefer to study in complete silence, while others find that some background noise helps them focus better. There is no right or wrong answer here — it’s all about finding a place to study that allows you to work as efficiently as possible.(有些人喜欢在完全安静的环境中学习,而另一些人则发现一些背景噪音可以帮助他们更好地集中注意力。这里没有正确或错误的答案——关键是要找到一个能让你尽可能高效工作的学习场所)”可知,这段主要讲找一个学习的地方,F选项中Where和小标题中place对应,且本句有启下作用。故F选项“学习地点也会影响你如何有效利用时间”符合语境,故选F。

    第二节:读后续写(满分25分)
    47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The other day, I was driving home, a little upset because I hated working at the weekend. On the way, I decided to grab some veggies in the nearby greengrocer's. Since there was still thin ice on the road, I took a glance at the rear mirror to make sure no pedestrians or vehicles came close, and slowly steered the wheel to the right. Then out of any of my expectancy my car bumped into an electric bike, giving out a harsh metallic clash. I collected myself and saw out of the window screen a teenager lean on one side of the bike, one foot off the ground.
All of a sudden, a familiar scene flashed across my mind.
When I was in high school, I had fun riding my bike along the country road on sweltering and boring afternoons during summer holidays. Sometimes I carried my little brother to the only grocery store in the neighborhood where we could buy our favorite ice cream. Once we had an argument about what to buy. Seeing him leave the store in a temper, I jumped on the bike and tried to talk him into going back. Suddenly, he gave me a push and I inclined towards the middle of the road when a motorbike came in my face. I fell on the ground before I could see anything clearly. Luckily, I didn't get hurt but still couldn’t rise to my feet. The motorist, a middle-aged man, ignoring his torn jeans, shed to check on me, “Are you okay? Your leg? Your foot?"
“I am all right, but..."I stared at him, terrified because I was sure he would ask for "big" sum of money for compensation. Instead, he just let me go despite his wife's protests. Guilty as I was, I was happy that I was spared. I was really grateful to the man for pardoning a silly kid who had made such a big mistake involuntarily.
    注意:1,续写的词数应为150左右;
    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
    Paragraph 1
Seeing the same fright in the boy's eyes, I quickly got out of my car.
    Paragraph 2
The boy offered to give me some money for the damage.
Paragraph 1
Seeing the same fright in the boy's eyes, I quickly got out of my car. “Are you okay? Your leg? Your foot?” I asked the same questions. The boy leaning on the bike shook his head nervously and spoke nothing. He just looked at me with his blue eyes wide open. I could see why. My car was badly damaged at the rear, which obviously would cost me lots of money to repair it. I just smiled and turned to check my car. Suddenly, the boy said something behind me.
    Paragraph 2
The boy offered to give me some money for the damage. I turned around and looked at him in the eyes and smiled again. “No worries, kid,” I said, “It is not a big deal. I can handle it myself.” The boy was puzzled. “I experienced the same things when I was as your age and I was forgiven, so are you now. Just go home and be careful.” I explained to him. An obvious surprise flashed across his face but was quickly replaced by great relief. He got off his bike and bowed deeply, saying, “Thank you, sir.” I smiled again, knowing that: A seed of kindness and forgiveness was planted.
