I am a shy girl. I used to be upset. Luckily, I took up reading as my hobby. Books took me into another amazing world. Once my parents encouraged me to try out for a volunteer in the library. I started to teach kids learn to read. I felt a sense of satisfaction when those kids fell in love with reading. Inspired by this experience, I plan to do more in the future. First of all, I’ll continue to reuse things instead of throwing them away. Secondly, I will reduce the use of energy. The best gift that I have ever had is a lamp which was given to me by my best friend Mandy two years ago. Although it looks quite normal, it has a special meaning to me.

Mandy was my classmate and best friend in primary school. We got separated when we entered our new middle schools. I was not so outgoing, so when I met a whole class of new classmates, I felt lost. What’s worse, my grades dropped during the first year. I talked about my problems and difficulties with Mandy one day and she comforted me by giving me much confidence. Then my birthday came, she came to my house and sent me this lamp. She hoped that it would give me light and warmth. Since then, this gift has been kept on my desk.

This gift is special and valuable to me because it is like the light that guides me whenever I am down or moody. I’ll cherish the lamp and our friendship forever.
