The brthers talk abut hw a neighbrhd bird hspital refused t treat the first kite they rescued because it was a “nn-vegetarian bird". At that time, they, were teenage bdybuilders and that's hw they "came t knw abut flesh and muscles". They figured ut ways t bandage the kites. They became passinate abut birds. “We'd lie n the grund, watching the elegant flights in the sky,” they say. “The head wuld spin. Have yu ever felt dizzy lking int the sky?"
The street utside the brthers' hme becmes a smelly pl f sewage water which cmes int the basement during the rainy seasn. Pigs wander in a muddy channel. Air quality reaches dangerus peaks. Yet there’s life and. hpe. Mnkeys climb playfully ver sme electric wires that hang unsteadily ver narrw streets. An airplane in the sky is reflected in a pl f quiet water

In 2017,Yazd, a city in the desert f central Iran, was recgnized as a UNESCO Wrld Heritage site. Yazd has lng been a fcal pint fr creative inventiveness. It is hme t an undergrund refrigeratin structure called
yakchat and an undergrund irrigatin system called qanats. In additin, the city has the wind catcher, a cling architectural element that has been used fr thusands f years. And it has the mst wind catchers in the wrld.
These remarkable twers are a cmmn sight standing abve the buildings f Yazd. There are tw main frces that drive the air thrugh and dwn int the structures: the incming wind and the change in buyancy(浮力)f air. First,as air is caught by the pening f a wind catcher, it is led dwn t the huse belw. Then the air flws thrughut the inside f the building, smetimes ver undergrund pls f water fr further cling. Eventually, warmed air will rise and leave the building thrugh anther twer r pening.
Sme f the earliest wind-catching technlgy came frm Egypt 3,300 years ag. Here, buildings had thick walls, few windws facing the sun, an pening t take in air and an exit pening n the ther side knwn as malqaf architecture. Iran's wind-catching technlgy is widely cnsidered t have added structural imprvements t allw fr better cling-such as typically cmbining it with its existing irrigatin system t help t cl the air dwn befre releasing it thrughut the hme.
The structures, which require n electricity t pwer them, are nw drawing scientists back t the desert city t see what rle they culd play in keeping us cl in a rapidly heating wrld. Parham Kheirkhah Sangdeh has extensively studied the scientific applicatin and surrunding culture f wind catchers in cntemprary architecture at Ilam University in Iran. He hpes t see Iran's wind catchers updated t add energy-efficient cling t existing buildings. “Peple need t keep an eye n the past and understand why energy cnservatin is imprtant,” he says.

    B.Its extreme climates.
    D.Its central gegraphical psitin.
29.Where is the pening f a wind catcher?

    B.Abve the rftp.
    D. Beneath a huse's windws.
    30. Hw des Iran's wind catcher differ frm Egypt's malqaf ?
    A. It is surrunded by thicker walls.

We have lng been attracted by quick fixes that culd increase ur intelligence. Tday, peple's hpes lie in brain training apps, sme f which claim t result in “smarter minds”. But is this quick fix all it is said t be?
There are plenty f brain training apps, but they all share the same characteristics: they turn mental exercises like simple arithmetic(算术),memry tests and lgic and pattern-matching prblems int quick games. The mre yu play these mini-games, the smarter yu will get-r s sme apps tell us. It is really a big prmise.
Many f the apps say they are beaked by “science”, a claim I fund surprising as a frmer neurscientist. The cncept that increasing intelligence wuld be as simple as practicing a few mini-games every day flies in the face f what we have discvered abut hw humans think and learn.
After surveying a diverse spread f thusands f users acrss a wide variety f apps, researchers at Western University in Canada discvered that “brain training has n appreciable effect n cgnitive(认知的)functining in the 'real wrld', even after extensive training perids”. The psitive effects that have been fund are restricted t the very specific mini-games and tasks that users 'are trained n, such as the ability t memrize lists f wrds r numbers, r perfrm mental arithmetic, with little benefit t ther skills.
If yu are expecting them t imprve yur ability t write a nvel r cnstruct a cmplex spreadsheet. I am afraid yu will want t lk elsewhere.
Puzzle vide games such as “Baba Is Yu” and “Return f the Obra Dinn ”,see players apply their skill at lgic, memry and cncentratin in a far mre cmplex way than any brain training mini-game.
32.What des the authr say abut brain training apps?
    A.They have scientific supprt.
    B. They wrk in the frm f games.
    C.They require prblem-slving skills.
D.They are based n cmplex arithmetic.
    33. What des the underlined part “flies in the face f” in paragraph 3 mean'
    A.Agrees with.
    C.Ges against.
    B. Takes advantage f.
    frm.
34.Which:best describes the effects that brain training apps have n memry?
    A.Limited.
    C.Damaging.
    B.Indirect.
D.Far-reaching35. What is the authr's attitude t “Baba Is Yu”?
    A.Dubtful.
    B.Intlerant.
    C. Uninterested.
    D.Favrable.

26.D。 第五段的前三句“The street utside the brthers' hme.··Air quality reaches dangerus peaks.”描写这里的环境恶劣,而本段的后三句“Yet there’s life and hpe. A pl f quiet water.”

根据第一段中的“Yazd has lng been a fcal pint fr creative inventiveness.”
根据第二段中的“These remarkable twers are a cmmn sight standing abve the buildings f is caught by the pening f a wind catcher,it is led dwn t the huse belw.”
根据第三段中的“Iran's wind-catching technlgy is widely cnsidered t have added structural imprvements t allw fr better cling-such as typically cmbining it with its existing irrigatin system”可知, 与埃及的风塔不同,伊朗的风塔通常与灌溉系统相结合,这就说明伊朗风塔利用水可以降温的特质。
31.A。 根据最后一段中的“Parham Kheirkhah Sangdeh has extensively studied the scientific applicatin and surrunding culture f wind catchers in cntemprary architecture”可知,Kheirkhah Sangdeh 正在致力于在现代建筑中使用风塔。
再根据第三段中的“Many f the apps say they are backed by 'science', a claim I fund surprising”可知,作者并不认同脑力训练应用程序有所谓的科学支持。
    33.C。 根据第三段中的“a claim I fund surprising”和第四段所提到的研究结果“brain training has n appreciable effect n cgnitive(认知的)functining in the'real wrld'”可知,研究表明脑力训练对“现实世界”的
注:fly in the face f 意为“悍然不顾;与······相悖”。
36.D。根据前面“Yu’d make every effrt t keep her healthy and safe; t lve and supprt her;t be frgiving her mistakes and her inevitable slips; and t let her knw hw precius and imprtant she is.”
    38.G。根据本段首句“Take gd care f yurself.”
39.B。根据首句“Set healthy bundaries with thers.”
    40.C。根据后面的“Yu're human and yu’re ging t make mistakes.Dn't punish r blame yurself.”
    41.B。Mrs.Windsr
fllw“跟随”,equal“等于”,resemble“像”。
    49.D。 prfessinal“专业的”,skillful“娴熟的”,stubbrn“固执的”。
    51.B。由下文的“I didn’t knw what she meant”可知“我”当时就不理解,所以就很奇怪地看着她。anxiusly“焦虑地”,sadly“悲伤地”,gratefully“感激地”。
left“离开”,drpped“掉下”,departed“离开”。
    56.published。
    57.ldest。
    58.which。 介词+which,which指SMSS0313-6708。
    60.is。
    62.successfully。
    63.revealing。
    64.rays。
    65.experimental。
