（2022·四川省开江中学高三开学考试）As giant panda Tian Bao walked toward the feast placed in his enclosure (围场) on Thursday at Pairi Daiza zoo in Belgium, fans waiting outside began to sing Happy Birthday in Dutch and French.

One of the fans, Nora Verhoeyen, said she traveled there for the birthday party from the city of Oudenaarde, transferring between three trains in the process. Verhoeyen has visited Tian Bao and four other giant pandas at the zoo many times. She also came after Tian Bao was born on June 2, 2016—the first giant panda baby born in Belgium.

“I like pandas. I like Tian Bao very much,” she mentioned. She said she cried a year ago, knowing that Tian Bao would go to China later last year. Under the loan agreement with the Chinese government, giant panda babies born outside China to parents loaned from China belong to China and should go back by the age of four to join the breeding program as part of the conservation of the species.

“Tian Bao’s departure for China has been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. He is now expected to go to China at the beginning of next year,” according to the zoo’s founder and president, Eric Domb.

Giant panda keeper Robin Bouttefeux said that he prepared bamboo shoots, carrots and a cake made of soybeans, rice and corn for Tian Bao’s birthday. He said that every visitor loves Tian Bao. “He is my best friend,” he added. Bouttefeux, who has held the post for eight years, said that taking care of five giant pandas is a demanding job. “But it’s a nice job working with pandas every day,” he said.

Tian Bao weighed only 171 grams when he was born. He weighed 100 kilograms on Thursday. Domb said that everyone will be sad when Tian Bao leaves next year. But he and his colleagues also know that it is beneficial. Giant pandas are solitary (独立的) animals. Mothers and babies do not stay together for long in the wild. “If they were kept together beyond the point when a child is self-sufficient (自立的), it would eventually cause aggression”, according to a giant panda researcher, Elizabeth Dunn.

With the exception of a few other sports, such as sailing and rowing, most events that take place at the Summer Games usually just come down to the performances of the athletes. They try to swim and run faster, jump and climb higher, lift and hit with more strength.

Then the British adopted a more tactful(圆滑的)strategy. It teamed up with bike maker Hope Technology to create something extremely expensive for the Tokyo Olympics Games this year. The frame alone sells for about $23,500. Another $12,000 for the wheels. Throwing in the expensive suits, oil for chains, and sunglasses and shoes, the investment needed to compete for a cycling medal can be almost unaffordable for most of the athletes.

（2022·云南省玉溪第一中学高三开学考试）Six “sacrificial pits(祭祀坑)”, dating back 3,200 to 4,000 yeas, were newly discovered in Sanxingdui Ruins site in Guanghan. Over 500 artifacts, including gold masks, bronze wares, ivories, jades and textiles were unearthed from the site. Sanxingdui site is located in Sanxingdui Town, Guanghan City, Sichuan Province, on the south bank of Qianjiang River (Yangtze River), a tributary of Tuojiang River in the north of Chengdu Plain. The site covers an area of about 12 square kilometers, and the core area is the ancient city of Sanxingdui, with an area of about 3.6 square kilometers. It is the largest and highest-grade central site found in Sichuan Basin during the Xia and Shang period.

Sanxingdui site, first found in 1929, is generally considered as one of the most important archaeological sites along the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. However, the work of excavation on the site only began in 1986, when two pits — widely believed for sacrificial ceremonies — were accidentally discovered.

Investigation in the area around No.1 and 2 pits was relaunched in October 2019, and No.3 pit was found in December 2019, according to Lei Yu, a researcher of Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics and Archaeology Research Institute who heads the ongoing excavation. Thirty four research universities and research institutes have cooperated in this project. He said the new discoveries will help to better understand many unexplained findings in 1986.

More excavation followed in March 2020, and five more pits were found last year. And detailed research began in October. Excavation capsules with hi-tech equipment were set up in the pits in order to prevent the site from further damage.

According to the National Cultural Heritage Administration, studies of Sanxingdui site will become a crucial project in an ongoing program Archaeology China, which tries to explain the origins of Chinese civilization and how diverse cultures communicate and come together.

The Grammy-winning singer recently announced she would pay for several schoolroom projects in the cities of El Paso, Texas, Dayton, Ohio and Gilroy, California. A public school teacher from New York City started the organization in 2000. He had wanted his students to read the famous American book Little House on the Prairie. But, he only had enough money to buy a single copy of the book for the classroom.

Gaga chose to fully finance a $ 462 request for books at El Paso’s Whitaker Elementary School.

Rebeca Blanco-Grijalva wrote in her appeal on Donora Choose that she teaches third grade at a poor school. She described her students as “ desired readers”. But many of them do not have any books of their own to read at home.

Gaga wrote on Facebook that the money for these and other projects will give teachers “the support they need to inspire their students to work together and bring their dreams to life.”

Acupuncture, a technique to cure various illnesses, was introduced in India in 1959 by B．K. Basu in the eastern city of Kolkata, capital of West Bengal state, according to Mrigendranath Gantait, president of the Acupuncture Association of India. Over the past six decades, it has spread to rural, semi-urban and urban areas in India, particularly in the states of West Bengal, Maharashtra and Punjab.

Acupuncture therapy in India is related to the story of the Indian medical mission that was sent to China to provide medical assistance during the Chinese people’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-1945). Basu, as a colleague of Dwarkanath Kotnis (widely known as Ke Dihua in China) and a torchbearer of the Indian medical mission, stayed in China from 1938 to 1943,and later worked for 43 years in India until his death in 1986. From 1958 to 1959, Basu stayed in China to learn acupuncture before introducing the needle techniques in India. In 1973, Basu was invited to China to learn newly developed acupuncture anesthesia (麻醉).

From the very beginning, Basu tried to spread acupuncture to doctors by free teaching to broad masses of people. Basu, who established the Dr. Dwarkanath Kotnis Memorial Committee and the Acupuncture Association of India, donated his house and savings to the government of West Bengal state for the purpose of acupuncture development.

Under the leadership of the committee, free health service clinics have been set up where acupuncture is taken as the main treatment modality (模式), because the cost of acupuncture treatment is low, and acupuncture is effective for many ailments. The committee has also produced many acupuncturists who run these clinics without taking any remuneration (报酬), according to Gantait.

“Acupuncture has played a unique role to promote people’s friendship between India and China,” he says. “When Basu returned to India after learning acupuncture anesthesia, the Indian media described it as acupuncture diplomacy, and it was highly praised in the country.”
