    设计说明

      本节课的重点是通过本节课的学习,学生能掌握一定的听力技巧,独立完成本节课的听力任务并能用过去进行时讲述发生在自己身边的小故事。为了降低听力难度,在听力练习前,老师可以先设计对话、练习题来对过去进行时的用法进行充分的复习。在教授新的单词和短语之后,利用1a中的活动为听力练习做一个铺垫,为下一步的听力做好准备。在听的过程中,要做好过程指导,并把情感教育巧妙地融入课堂教学当中。

    教学目标

      1. 知识目标

      (1)掌握单词和短语:realizemake one’s way

      2掌握句型:①Kate realized her bag was still at home. When the school basketball competition startedKate was still making her way to school. While I was running back homeI saw a dog by the side of the road.

      2. 能力目标

      (1)掌握一定的听力技巧,能独立完成本节课的听力任务。

      (2)能用过去进行时讲述发生在自己身边的小故事。

      3. 情感目标

      虽然生活中我们会发生各种小意外,以致参加活动时迟到或者无法参加提前安排好的活动,但是我们仍然要养成守时的习惯,尽量预留充分的时间并做好一定的准备,做一个准时守约的人。

    重点难点

      1. 重点:

      (1)掌握本课时单词、短语和句型。

      (2)能独立完成本节课的听力任务,并能用过去进行时讲述发生在自己身边的小故事。

      2. 难点:

      (1)能独立完成本节课的听力任务,并能用过去进行时讲述发生在自己身边的小故事。

      (2)一般过去时与过去进行时的区别。

    教学准备

      多媒体课件、录音机、磁带。

    教学过程

      Step 1 Revision & Warming up

      1. Have students translate some sentences about the past progressive tense in last lesson. Then review how to use when and while.

      Do the following exercises.

      2A strange box arrivedarrivewhile we were talkingtalk.

      3John was sleepingsleepwhen someone stole stealhis car.

      4Father was takingtakea shower when I gotgetup yesterday morning.

      2. Free talk.

      For example

      Step 2 Presentation

      Teach the new word and phraserealizemake one’s way.

      Step 3 Telling a story

      1. Show the chart to the students.

      TThink of a time when you were late for or couldn’t go to an event. What was the event? What was the reason why you were late or couldn’t go? Tell your partner the story. For examplelast SundayI missed a class party. While I was making my way to the partyI saw an old man sitting by the road. It seemed that he was seriously ill. So I took him to the hospital and called his daughter. And thenwhen I got to the partyno one was there.

      Make sure the students understand what to do.

      2. Give the students several minutes to think. While they are thinkingwalk around the classroom and give them some help when it’s necessary.

      3. Ask some students to tell their stories.

      Step 4 Listening

      1. Work on 1b.

      TPeople sometimes miss important events. Let’s listen to the conversation between Kate and Johnand find out the answers to the questions in 1b. Firstyou need to read the questions.

      1Play the recording for the first time. Students should get the main idea.

      2Play the recording again. Students write down the answers to the questions.

    When the competition started

    Kate was still making her way to school.

    Kate realized that her bag was still at home.

    While she was running back home

    she saw a dog by the side of the road and it was hurt.

      2Play the recording again and ask the students to complete the passage.

      KateWhat a day I had! When I got to the bus stopI realized that my bag was still at home! But while I was running back homeI saw a dog by the side of the road and it was hurt. I wanted to call the Animal Helplinebut I didn’t have my phone so I had to wait for someone to walk by. Then I used his phone to call the helpline. ThereforeI didn’t make it to the competition.

      3Ask the students to retell the passage.

      Step 5 Cooperative inquiry

      Discuss the following language points in groups and fill in the blanks.

      过去进行时与一般过去时的区别:

      区别一:过去进行时表示在过去某一时刻或某一段时间内正在进行或发生的动作;一般过去时表示过去某个时间发生的动作或存在的状态。

      He was writing a composition at eight o’clock last night.

      他昨晚8点钟在写作文。

      He wrote a composition last night.

      他昨晚写了一篇作文。

      区别二:表示过去的状态、感觉及心理活动的静态动词(如belikelovehatehearseeknowwant)可用于一般过去时,但通常不用于过去进行时。

      I hated it when a man spoke with his mouth full of food.

      我讨厌人们说话时满嘴食物。

      区别三:一般过去时与always连用时,表示过去经常性、习惯性的动作;而过去进行时与 always连用时,常带有感情色彩。

      He always got up at six last year.

      他去年总是6点起床。

      He was always thinking of his work.

      他总是一心想着工作。
