课题名 | Lesson 1 - Reading and Comprehension |
教学目标 | - Ss learn background information about India. - Ss learn to use different methods to learn new words. We will apply to future lessons. - Help Ss use image to help to improve their understanding. - Ss will demonstrate their understanding by describe the image, or draw an image. |
教学重点 | - Help students visualize the meaning of words, expressions and paragraphs. |
教学难点 | - Ss try to visualize the meaning of words, expressions and paragraphs. |
教学准备 | T prints out flash cards if needed. |
教学过程 |
Sing the 10 little Indians song. Since the Indians in the song are different from the Indian we are going to discuss in the article. T introduces these two Indians and compares the countries they live and their tradition to build basic knowledge. At the same time, Ss will acquire new words like “India, Indian, Palace”
In PPT12-13, Ss don’t have to look into the dictionary. They just need to directly link the English words with the real things. T helps to correct them if they have any concern. And practice compound words. Etc. I would suggest T emphasis the pronunciation, and practice if time is permitted. T can use flash card to play some flash card game. For example, in our traditional classes, Students sit in lines. T distributes a flash card to the first student of each line, and whisper the word on the flash card. When each line gets the flash card, T will let the first Ss pass the card to the Ss behind and say the word, then pass on. The line wins if the last S of the line shout out the word correctly the first.
Ss will learn a new word easier from what they’ve known, or with connections. b. PPT 15, T uses the picture to let student understand we can use wise to describe what kinds of person. But leave a question for Ss to think during reading. We’ve learned smart, clever, and intelligent before, can you tell what’s the different between these words after reading the story? C. Study new words by comparing (PPT 17-18)
D.Some words have different meaning (PPT 19-21) T explain the meaning and provide Ss examples. For verbs, such as promise and challenge, T should let them know how to use them. T can let students make sentences.
Discuss the image in the text book (PPT 23)ask students some basic questions. Let Ss focus on the image and link the image with what they’ve known. And begin with simple questions
B.During-reading
Bring out the question: To compare “wise” with “clever” and “intelligent”. In Unit 1, we learned Intelligent. Now we learned wise. Through the story, do you think if there are any differences?
1. We discussed about the tradition of different Indians. And explored simple information about India. 2. We used different methods to learn new words: We used images to learn nouns and used synonyms to compare different words or expressions. We also found that there are some words are similar, we also can learn them together. And some words have different meaning. We should use them in different sentences. 3. During reading, we also use image to help us to better understand the story. We can read the image or draw the image, and we even can act.

板书设计 | Model how to draw the image while reading. (When Ss do the drawing exercises, please let them know, their drawing will not be judged. Ss can draw in any style. The purpose is to help them better understand the text.) |
课后作业 | - Compare “wise” with “clever” and ”intelligent” - If you are good at math. You may calculate and find out how many grains should it be in the 20th square? - If you are interested in India, read a passage after class or search for more information. |
教学反思 | Through the process, help students think as English speaker. Ss don’t have to translate. Always visualize what they are reading. It’s an important method to improve comprehension. |
