Procedure

Lead-in

Look at the pictures and answer what they are doing. Then try to understand and answer “Can we....?”, lead students to answer them with No, then introduce sentence structure begin with “Don’t”.

Step 1

Presentation:

Learn to read the new words aloud.

Show students some pictures, encourage them to say what these signs mean in English, meanwhile, present three key sentence structures: You can’t... .Dont’... .No +doing.

1a: Which rules are these students breaking? Write the number of the rule next to the student.

1b: Listen. What rules are these students breaking? Write the numbers after the names.

Listen again and fill in the blanks.

1c: Student A is a new student. Student B tells Student A about the rules above.

2a: Listen. Check (√) the activities Alan and Cindy talk about.

2b: Listen again. Can Alan and Cindy do these activities? Circle can or can’t above.

Listen again and fill in the blanks.

2c: Student A is Alan and Student B is Cindy. Talk about the rules in 2a.

2d: Listen to the conversaation and the following questions.

Read the conversation and complete the sentences.

Role-play the conversation.

Summary:

1. Don’t arrive late for class. 

arrive作不及物动词，意为“到达”=get to，其后不能直接跟宾语，后常接in(大地方)或at(小地方)。

例：他们六点钟到北京。

    They arrive in Beijing at six?

我们通常在早上到达车站。

We usually arrive at the station in the morning.

“三到达” 辨析（arrive, reach 与get to ）

arrive  不及物动词，后接大地点用in，小地点用at。

reach  及物动词，意为“到达”，后直接跟地点。

get to  后接名词，常用于get to+地点名词。

当arrive和get后接地点副词，如here, there或home等时，介词要省略。

例：他们坐飞机到北京。

    They arrive in Beijing by plane.

    They reach Beijing by plane.

They get to Beijing by plane. 

选词填空: in, at, to

listen 作不及物动词，意为“听；倾听”，

动词词组listen to，意为“听......；倾听......”

例：听,那个女孩在唱歌。

    Listen! The girl is singing.

我正在听音乐。

I am listening to music.

listen 与hear 的辨析

listen“听；倾听”，强调“听”的动作

hear“听到；听见”, 强调“听”的结果

例：仔细听，我能听到某种声音。

3. have to与must

    1) have to意为“不得不”，强调“客观需要”。

        They have to wear school uniforms every day.
他们每天不得不穿校服。

    2) must 意为“必须”，强调主观上的愿望。

        It’s late. I must go home now.

       天晚了。现在我必须要回家。

Ⅱ.用have to或has to填空。

  1) rule规则, 可数名词, 构成的短语有：

　  obey/follow the rules    遵守规章

      be against the rules

      break the rules

school rules 校纪 = the rules of the school

class rules 班规 = the rules of the class

family rules 家规= the rules of a family

rule还可以用作动词, 意为“统治，支配”。

e.g. A young king rules the country very well.

　   一位年轻的国王把这个国家统治得很好。

2) late  “迟， 晚” (形容词或副词)

e.g. Why are you late? 你为什么迟到？

　   Sorry, I come late. 对不起，我来晚了。

     be late for＋n.=arrive late for  (对)……迟到

e.g. Don’t be/arrive late for work / class /meeting.

      上班/上课/开会别迟到。

5. This is very important.

important为形容词，意为“重要的”

常用句型:It is important for sb. to do sth.做某事对某人来说是重要的

例:对我们来说遵守规则是重要的。

  It is important for us to follow the rules.
