动词不定式中的省略现象

一、保留不定式符号to

特定语境中为了避免重复，可将不定式to后面的内容省略，只保留不定式符号to。如：

She went there because she wanted to.

He doesn’t work here now, but he used to.

---Would you like to join us? ---I’d like to.

二、保留至be, have或have been

如果不定式to后的结构中含有be, have或have been, 通常要保留be, have或have been.  但随后的成分仍可省略。如：

---Is your mother a teacher?

---No, but she used to be.

---He hasn’t finished yet.

---Well, he ought to have.

三、不定式符号to完全省略

1. 感官动词和使役动词在主动语态中不需要带to。如：

He noticed Tom take a branch of flowers in his hand.

2. 在固定句式中如may as well do，do nothing but…，can not help but…, Why not do…? had better, would rather等。如：

We might as well put up here for tonight.

She can do nothing but sing.

You'd better not tell him the news.

Why not go out for a walk?
