展开一、目的状语从句定义:顾名思义,在句子中充当目的状语的句子,就叫目的状语从句,主要用来补充说明主句中谓语动词发生的目的。
如:He gt up early s as t catch the first mrning bus. He gt up early s that he culd catch the first mrning bus.第一句中的短语s as t catch the first mrning bus是用来补充说明gt up early的目的状语。第二句中的句子he culd catch the first mrning bus是用来补充说明gt up early的目的状语从句。
目的状语从句的谓语中常含有may, might, can, culd, shuld, wuld等情态动词情态动词有四类: ①只做情态动词:must, can(culd), may(might), ught t ②可做情态动词又可做实义动词:need, dare ③可做情态动词又可做助动词:shall(shuld), will(wuld) ④具有情态动词特征:have(had) t, used t 如:Yu must speak luder s that / in rder that yu can be heard by all.
二、连接词英语中常用来连接目的状语从句的连接词及其短语主要有:that以便,s that 以便,in rder that 为了,以便s that 引导目的状语从句时有时可省略s而只用that,有时也可只用s
(一)s thats that表示“为了;以便”。如:We turned n the light s that we might see what it was. 我们把灯打开,以便看看它是什么。 They put a screen arund his bed s that the dctr culd examine him. 他们在他床的四周放上屏风,以便医生给他检查。
【注意】1、s that有时可以省略s,直接用that连接。如:Bring it clser (s) that I may see it better. 把它拿近点儿,让我看看仔细。2、当主从句的主语一致时,s that引导的状语从句可以改为短语结构s as t d。如:从句:We made a strategic withdrawal, s that we culd build up ur frces fr a renewed attack. (我们作了一次战略性退却,以便我们能积蓄力量再次进攻。)短语:We made a strategic withdrawal, s as t build up ur frces fr a renewed attack.
3、s that也可以表示结果,意思为“因此;所以”。此时,其从句的谓语动词中一般不使用情态动词。如:Everyne lent a hand, s that the swing was dne in time. 每个人都帮了忙,所以播种才得以及时完成。 I tk n ntice f him, s that he flew int a rage. 我没注意到他,他因此勃然大怒。
4、注意s that与的区别。如:He went t bed very early last night s that he culd get up early this mrning. 他昨晚很早就睡了,以便今早能够早起。(目的状语从句) He stayed up s late last night that he culdn't get up early this mrning. 他昨晚熬夜太晚,以至于今早无法这么早起床了。(结果状语从句)
(二)in rder thatin rder that表示“为了;以便”。如:I am saving mney in rder that I can buy a huse. 我正在攒钱,以便我能买一所房子。 In rder that we might get there in time, we shuld set ut early. 为了及时赶到那里,我们应该早些出发。
连接词in rder that
【注意】当主从句的主语一致时,in rder that连接的从句可以改为短语结构in rder t d。如:我来,是为了能见到杰克。 I came in rder that I culd see Jack. I came in rder t see Jack.
in rder that与in rder t的区别: in rder that+从句 in rder t +动词原形I get up early in rder that I can catch the early bus.I get up early in rder t catch the early bus.He came in quietly in rder that he shuldn’t wake his wife. He came in quietly in rder nt t wake his wife.
s that既可引导目的状语从句,也可引导结果状语从句。引导结果状语从句:s that意为“以至于”,可和s/such…that转换引导目的状语从句:s that“为了,以便”,可和in rder that互换He gt up late s that he was late fr schl. =He gt up s late that he was late fr schl.He gt up early s that he culd take the first bus.=He gt up early in rder that he culd take the first bus.
