    A. but he doesn’t seem to be interested in it
    B. but I know I was wrong
    C. but speaks little to us
    D. I wonder how the Internet is so attractive
    E. He never seems to be afraid of his father

    Dear Annie,
I’ve never written a letter to a newspaper before, I have just never felt the need to do such a thing. I have always felt I was quite able to do everything by myself, (1) .
Sometimes you really need help in life, I guess. And that’s why I’m writing this letter to you.
I have a happy family. I love my children and they love me. I’m a mother of three children. I know well how to bring up(养大) children, and two of them are already over twenty, so it is nothing new for me.
But now I have a serious problem: the Internet problem. My little son is just sixteen, and I feel he should do a lot of homework now, (2) . He can happily spend six or eight hours at a time on the Internet every day. He chats with people that he has never met before, (3) . He does lots of meaningless things on the Internet. And he sees red(大怒) if you ask him to do his homework.
I just want him to be a good student. Now he seldom does his lessons at home. I’m afraid he will drop behind in his class soon. His father is a doctor, a very kind man. (4) .
What can I do? And don’t tell to talk to him. We’ve tried that and it didn’t work. But this is really a big problem in our family. I have tried everything I can think of. (5) . You are my last hope. Please tell me what I can do!
    Yours,
    Ellen Smith

One autumn, he promised to help our neighbor, who lost his arms in a traffic accident in 1999, to harvest his rice. After Father harvested our town, his little rice picker broke. What’s worse, he had to return to work the next day because his partner was ill in hospital. It meant that Father wouldn’t be back in a few days. It now seemed impossible to help out the neighbor.

After dinner, Father had a short rest and made his way to the field. A full moon was glowing (发光) in the sky and the weather was cold but clear. He spent the whole night keeping his word.

No one wants to overspend on their supermarket shopping but to save money every week. Preparations start before you even go into the store. Here is how to make sure you are always getting your shopping for the best price.
    ●Create your list
Write a full list which includes two parts, something necessary for a living and something for fun. With a strict list, you won’t easily change your mind to buy more than you need.
    ●Check the cupboards
One of the easiest ways to overspend is buying what you don’t need. Before leaving, take time to check what products you have in the house, especially in the cupboards. Buy what you badly need and it will help you save money before you step into the supermarkets.
    ●Know your budget(预算)
Keep in mind how much you plan to spend. It is possible to get your shopping for less, but you need to wisely pay attention to the products and brands you buy to support savings.
    ●Compare prices
You should make a comparison between the prices offered by different supermarkets. So if you try to buy your shopping for less, compare the prices in different shops, which makes sure that you are always visiting the cheapest supermarket for your shopping.
●Choose the best time for shopping
If you know your supermarket well, there will certainly be a preferred time to shop. This could be at the quietest time to make sure you get peace while working out the total cost of your shopping. And a few hours before closing helps you to get a special offer. That will bring down the cost of your shopping.

The opening ceremony(开幕式) of the 31st Olympic Games was held at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on the evening of Friday, August 5th, 2016.
Following the tradition, the ceremony introduced each country that would compete in the Olympics. Brazil also did something different. They used this opportunity to call for more attention to climate change and the deforestation (砍伐森林) of the Amazon.
With part of the opening ceremony focused on our planet, organizers found a way for athletes to leave their marks. Each athlete was asked to plant seeds that would be planted in the Athletes Forest in Rio and eventually grow into trees in a few years.
As they entered the stadium, each received a seed to plant a native tree of Brazil. There were 207 kinds—one for each country in the Games. The children with each delegation (代表团) carried a tree as well.
The metal towers in which the athletes planted the seeds were moved to the middle of the stadium and formed the shape of the Olympic rings. The rings’ color—all green—was meant to serve as reminding that replanting forests should be important.
According to the official program, this was the first time in Olympic Opening Ceremony history the athletes joined in an action upon entering the stadium.
    (1) When was the opening ceremony of the 31st Olympic Games held?

故选A。

    (1)save Mother Earth/ the environment
    (2)Planting more trees
    (3)polluting
    (4)rubber and plastic
    (5)know
    (1)save Mother Earth/ the environment
(3)polluting 在“save water”一段里,提到了两个方面:turn off water taps after use. Do not pollute rivers .(用完后关水龙头;不要污染水源。)
从文中的“A simple way to do this is to reduce the use of rubber and plastic. Instead, use paper bags and cardboard boxes.”
(5)know 从短文最后一段里的“Make yourself and those around you know the effects of animal extinction.”

    (1)No.
(2)He lost his arms in a traffic accident.
(3)Because his partner was ill in hospital.
    (4)By hand without a machine.
    (5)The whole night.
My father used to work in the city and seldom stayed at home. But he would come back help to harvest(收割) rice every year可知,作者的父亲在城市里工作,很少呆在家里。
(2)根据题干关键词in 1999可以找到答案在短文中第二段第一句“One autumn, he promised to help our neighbor, who lost his arms in a traffic accident in 1999”。
What’s worse, he had to return to work the next day because his partner was ill in hospital.,因为他的搭档生病住院了,所以他第二天不得不回到了工作岗位上。
(4)根据题干“help the neighbor harvest rice”可知答案应定位到倒数第三段第二句“He decided to harvest it by hand without a machine.”
(5)由题干中的spend 可知答案应该定位到文中倒数第二段最后一句,“He spent the whole night keeping his word.”,故答案是The whole night整个晚上。而句中“keeping his word”便是说的“father spend in harvesting the neighbor’s rice”。
