    A
Failure is probably the most exhausting experience a person ever has. There is nothing more tiring than not succeeding.
We experience this tiredness in two ways: as start-up fatigue(疲惫)and performance fatigue. In the former case, we keep putting off a task because it is either too boring or too difficult. And the longer we delay it, the more tired we feel.
Such start-up fatigue is very real, even if not actually physical, not something in our muscles and bones. The solution is obvious though perhaps not easy to apply: always handle the most difficult job first.
Years ago, I was asked to write 102 essays on the great ideas of some famous authors. Applying my own rule, I determined to write them in alphabetical order(按字母顺序), never letting myself leave out a tough idea. And I always started the day’s work with the difficult task of essay-writing.Experience proved that the rule works.
Performance fatigue is more difficult to handle. Though willing to get started, we cannot seem to do the job right. Its difficulties appear so great that, however hard we work, we fail again and again. In such a situation, I work as hard as I can—then let the unconscious take over.
When planning Encyclopaedia Britannica(《大英百科全书》), I had to create a table of contents based on the topics of its articles. Nothing like this had ever been done before, and day after day I kept coming up with solutions, but none of them worked. My fatigue became almost unbearable.
One day, mentally exhausted, I wrote down all the reasons why this problem could not be solved. I tried to convince myself that the trouble was with the problem itself, not with me. Relieved, I sat back in an easy chair and fell asleep.
An hour later, I woke up suddenly with the solution clearly in mind. In the weeks that followed, the solution which had come up in my unconscious mind proved correct at every step. Though I worked as hard as before, I felt no fatigue. Success was now as exciting as failure had been depressing.
Human beings, I believe, must try to succeed. Success, then, means never feeling tired.

A.Before starting a difficult task. B.When all the solutions fail.
C.If the job is rather boring. D.After finding a way out.
4.According to the author, the unconscious mind may help us .

Sometimes the toughest thing about feelings is sharing them with others.Sharing your feelings helps you whether your feelings are wonderful or terrible.Sharing also helps you to get closer to people you care about and who care about you.But how?
You can’t tell your friends what’s inside your backpack if you don’t know what’s in there yourself.Feelings are the same way. Before you can share them with anyone, you have to figure out what feelings you have.
Making a list of your feelings can help. You can do this in your mind or by writing them out or even by drawing pictures. Is something bothering you?Does it make you frustrated or terrified?Do you feel this emotion only once in a while or most of the time?
The way a person feels inside is important. If you keep feelings locked inside,it can even make you feel sick! But if you talk with someone who cares for you,you will almost always start to feel better. It doesn’t mean your problems and worries magically disappear, but at least someone else knows what’s bothering you and can help you find solutions.
Your mom and dad want to know if you have problems and what’s happening in your life. But what if a kid doesn’t want to talk with parents? Then find another adult you trust, like a relative or a teacher at school.Maybe this person can help you talk with your parents about your problem or concern.
Once you know who you can talk with, you’ll want to pick a time and place to talk. You can talk publicly in your family. But some kids are more private than others and they will feel shy about sharing their feelings. Then find a quiet place or write it down on a piece of paper.A kid doesn’t have to share every feeling he or she has.
5.What does the passage mainly tell us?
    A.The importance of feelings.
B.How to figure out your feelings.
    C.How to share your feelings.
    D.The people sharing your feelings.
6.What can we learn from Paragraph 2?
A.Kids can’t tell their friends about their backpacks.
B.Kids should know about themselves first before sharing.
C.Kids need to find out what others think of them first.
D.Kids’ feelings are the same in a way.
7.What might happen after sharing your feelings with others?
    A.You’ll recover from your illness.
    B.You will feel relieved.
    C.Your worries will magically disappear.
    D.You’ll like more private talks.
8.Where is this passage probably taken from?
    A.A science fiction.
    B.A parents’ brochure.
    C.A children’s magazine.
    D.A notice board.
It is said that most people have no more than 30 friends at any given time, and 400 over the course of their lives. However, on social networking sites, most users have about 150 friends.
     1
2 There are no instructions about how to make friends, how to keep friendships going, and how to end friendships if we want to move on. People have very different opinions about this. Some people would die for their friends and value them more than their family. Others say that friends are temporary, only there to help each other until they are no longer needed. 3
Because of these different definitions of friendship, it is easy to be unhappy about our friendships. We may want them to be deeper and closer, or we may want to have more friends in our lives. Sometimes we simply do not have the time to develop our friendships, or we fear we have left it too late in life to start. If we move to another country or city, we have to find ways to make new friends again.
4 We should not think that it could be too late to build friendships. We also need to understand that the need to be around other people is one that is shared by many. Therefore, we should not be too frightened of starting to talk to people who in the future may become our friends. 5 Remember what people say:strangers are friends we have not met yet.
A.It is likely that they would like to get closer to us too.
B.If people with such different views become friends, this can lead to problems.
C.Also, there are no rules about friendship.
D.Rules about friendship vary from culture to culture and from person to person.
E.This dissatisfaction shows us how important friendships are to most of us.
F.Everyone needs to get help from friends.
G.If these numbers are correct, then friendship means different things in different situations.

People have long believed that the smartphones in our pockets are 1 (actual)making us less intelligent;and now there is evidence for it. The lasting presence of a mobile phone reduces people’s intelligence and attention, 2 study has found.
Researchers at the University of Texas discovered that people are worse at doing tasks and remembering 3 (inform)if they have a smartphone 4 sight. In their experiments they found phones 5 (sit)on a desk or even in a pocket or a handbag would distract(使分心)users and lead to worse test 6 (score). The effect was noticeable even 7 the phones were turned off, and was worse for those who were more dependent on their mobiles. They tested 520 university students on their memory and intelligence in the presence of a smartphone to see how 8 affected them.
The study also found response speeds to be affected, with students who had their phone on the desk 9 (respond)more slowly in high-pace tests. It even found that phones could distract users even when they 10 (turn)off and placed face down. Those with phones outside the room outperformed those with phones turned off.

    A
根据第五段中的however hard we work, we fail again and again可知这种疲惫是在我们一次次努力去解决问题,但是一次次失败了的情况下发生的。
根据倒数第二段中的the solution which had come up in my unconscious mind proved correct at every step可知,在我无意识的情况下想出来的解决办法在解决问题中每一步都证明是正确的,所以答案为D项。
    B
Before you can share them with anyone, you have to figure out what feelings you have.
Then find another adult you trust, like a relative or a teacher at school.
设空处前的“30 friends” “and 400 over the course of their lives” “150 friends”与G项中的“these numbers” 相对应,故答案为G项。
根据下文 “There are no instructions about how to make friends, how to keep friendships going, and how to end friendships if we want to move on.”
上文的“very different opinions”与B项中的“such different views”相对应。
    5.A 细节句。
    4.in/within 考查固定短语。
    7.when/while 考查连词。 时”,故填when/while。
此处用it指代前面提到的a smartphone,故用代词it。
