Peking Opera
Peking Opera is cnsidered the quintessence (国粹) f China, but actually, its language is nt the dialect (方言) f Beijing. In 1790, the “Fur Great Anhui Trupes” traveled t Beijing, the capital f the Qing Dynasty, t perfrm fr the Imperial Curt (朝廷). They created Peking Opera by mixing their lcal pera with the thers in Hubei, Shaanxi and Zhejiang. The basic skills include singing, speaking, dancing and acrbatic fighting. In general, the rles n the stage are divided int fur: Sheng, Dan, Jing and Chu. Exaggerated (夸张的) makeup helps t build different characters.
Huangmei Opera
Huangmei Opera, which riginated (in Huangmei Cunty, Hubei Prvince and develped in Anqing, Anhui Prvince, is ne f China’s five majr peras. Dating back t the Tang Dynasty (618-907), it was first sung by wmen when they were picking tea. Knwn as the Tea Picking Tune, the pera has gne thrugh several stages including ne-man shws, three rle playlets, sanda qichang (three perfrmers playing percussin music while seven sing) and rchestral music accmpaniment (伴奏). The cstumes shw strng Han characteristics, but heavy facial makeup is seldm used.
Yue Opera
Yue Opera, knwn as the secnd natinal pera, riginated in the late 19th century in Shengzhu f Zhejiang Prvince, develped in Shanghai and spread thrughut the wrld. There were nly male perfrmers when it was created, but with the develpment f bth the pera and peple’s mind, female perfrmers are increasing. Its perfrmance is characterized by beautiful singing with lyrical expressins. Due t the gentle characteristic, the pera is a perfect way t shw lve stries.
