At lunchtime recently, Sha Jinyuan, 22, sent a WeChat message to her meal partner, or fandazi, asking, "What to eat?" After her pa 面 er replied with "don't know", Sha said, "Let's just go!"
Are these two people friends? No, they are dazi, or activity partners for specific pursuits, such as playing games, taking classes, traveling, or hiking and camping. Dazi now refers to a new kind of social connection with the aim of pursuing shared interests, rather than developing lasting friendships.
Early last month, a study of 1,335 people conducted by China Youth Daily's social survey center found that
72.6 % said they had one or more dazi. More than half of them said they go for meals with a dazi, while over 30% seek dazi for sports, travel, learning and playing games. More than 20% have dazi for shopping or walking their children.
The survey carried out last month found that young people seek dazi to share similar interests, to accompany them or share costs, expand their social circle, and to motivate, monitor and help one another. Some young people search for dazi because their lives are too fast-paced and their social circles too small.
Xu Kun, an expert at the 12355 hotline for youth psychological coun selin(g 咨询)and legal aid in Dalian,
said: "Young people enjoy doing things together. With less responsibility and pressure, the two people concerned get along more easily. "This is why young people these days are enthusiastic about fonning dazi circles," Xu said.
"A dazi relationship not only meets young people's social needs, but also reduces the basic costs in terms of time, energy and emotion required to keep a close relationship," Xu added. In this new kind of relationship, less responsibility gives people more freedom, but may also cause some problems. After all, dazi circle is quite different from real friendship, as some experts pointed out.
    28. What is the purpose of Paragraph 1?

    A. To state a fact.
    C. To raise a question.
    B. To show a conversation.
    D. To introduce the topic.

    29. How does the author show us that dazi circle is very popular in paragraph 3?
    A. By telling stories. B. By showing data.
    C. By giving examples. D. By making comparison.
    30. Why do young people seek dazi instead of lasting friendship nowadays?
    A. Because they have no time to find real friends.
    B. Because their social circles are too small for them.

    C. Because dazi requires less responsibility and offers more freedom.
    D. Because dazi can give them a hand whenever they need help.
    31. What wi11 the author ta!k about next?
    A. How to turn dazi into real friends.
    B. What problems dazi circles may bring about.
    C. Whether this new relationship will last or not.
    D. Why so many people prefer forming dazi circles.

    D
The zoo allows us to observe the wild animals without actually going to the wild places. It's an enjoyable and educational experience for us, but is it the best environment for the animals?
A long time ago, people could only see wild animals as dead exhibits in a museum . Later, live animals were caught by explorers, brought home and put on show to the public and conditions of the animals were terrible. But modern zoos and wildlife parks have improved the conditions and environments for animals, making bigger places,

removing bars, and, to some extent, making it closer to their natural habitat(s
    栖息地.)

Some people have questioned the cruelty of keeping animals captiv(e 关起来的)and using them just for
entertainment, but zoos are glad to show they are here to help wildlife by educating us about protection. Well-managed zoos are now involved in supporting and funding(资助)protection programmes.
Probably the biggest claim from zoos today is that they help to protect species that are under threat in the
wild due to climate change. Robert Young, Chair in Wildlife Protection at Salford University says: "There are quite a lot of different species around the planet which we wouldn't have today if it wasn't for zoos." Some zoos have captive raising programmes which help to preserve the future of species that would otherwise die out. Actor Leonardo DiCaprio recently spoke highly of the protection work of Chester Zoo in the UK. It brought a "rare fish species back from the dead" after breeding and releasing a school of golden skiffia fish back into their native river.
While the debate about having zoos continues, new opportunities to meet wildlife are being explored, such as using virtual reality, and Jon Coe, a zoo designer, told the BBC: "Taking a walk through a herd of elephants in the Serengeti, I think, is going to be possible pretty soon."
    32. What can we learn from Paragraph 2?
    A. No dead wild animals can be seen in the museums now.
    B. Modern zoos have provided natural habitats for wild animals.
    C. The conditions for wild animals in zoos have been gradually improved.
    D. The number of wild animals caught by explorers is growing all the time .
    33. What does the underlined word "preserve" in Paragraph 4 mean?
    A. change B. protect C. predict D. improve

    34. What is Leonardo DiCaprio's attitude towards the work of Chester Zoo?

    A. positive B. doubtful C. negative D. unclear

    35. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

    A. Why do we have zoos?

    C. Should we have zoos?

    B. The conservation efforts of zoos.

    D. The history and development of zoos.

As much as 80 percent of premature(提前的)heart disease is preventable by making specific lifestyle choices. Some strategies, such as exercising and managing weight, are well known. 36 As experts pointed out, a small change in your everyday routine can sometimes have a big impact in the long run.
Get eight hours of sleep. When you're not rested, everything that happens in your life is a lot more stressful. If you're lacking in sleep, our bodies also have more difficulty controlling blood pressure and inflammat io n( 炎 症 ) and sugar level. 37
Engage in volunteer work. 38 Also, loneliness is a risk factor for heart health. Luckily, volunteering gets you out of the house and creates a social network . In the meanwhile, it gives you a feeling of purpose in life,
which is linked to a lower possibility of heart attack and strok(e 中风).
39 Exposure to this kind of pollution over time raises your risk of heart disease. Even short periods of exposure are unhealthy for people who already have other healthy risks, such as high blood pressure. Try to get your outdoor exercise far away from highways and industrial districts, and spend more time indoors when the air quality inside is poor.
Eat breakfast. A recent study found that healthy people who didn't have breakfast were almost three times more likely to have heart disease six years later than those who ate a large morning meal. If you're eating a proper breakfast, you're less likely to be hungry later and make poor food choices. 40 Choose whole-grain, low-fat breakfast foods and include fruit.
    A. Avoid polluted air.

    B. Try to reduce pollution in the air.

    C. These strategies are beneficial to our health.

    D. But others may be less familiar to you.

    E. We need to eat a balanced diet as part of a healthy lifestyle.

    F. These factors can all have an impact on the function of heart.

    G. Doing good for others helps increase your self-worth and relieves stress.

One day when I was sitting on the porch, he came walking by. I was about 12 years old and thought it would make me feel grown up to tease him like some adults did in the town.
He asked how I was doing. I told him that my father had lost his job, and that we were short of money. I could see my friends laughing in the background so 1 went on with the lie. I had him fooled so completely that every time he asked me a question, 1 would make the situation seem worse and worse. Dear Jenny,
I am sorry to hear that you feel lonely living independently in the new school, so I’m writing to give you some suggestions to change this situation.
To begin with, try to communicate with your classmates and roommates more often, so that you will make
friends with them soon. In addition, it would be a good idea to focus more energy on study and after-class activities. In this way, you will find it easier to adapt to your new life and think less about this matter. (备选建议:Last but not least, why not give them a call when you miss them? As long as you care about each other, distance won’t be a problem.)
I do hope you will find my suggestions helpful. Looking forward to your reply.

    Yours, Li Hua.

On the doorstep, l found а box of food with a note beside it. Upon seeing the food, I knew who had sent it. My facing burning with shame, I took the box inside with care. Packed in the box were some sandwiches, a bottle of milk and some fruit. I picked up the note, on which some words were carefully written, “Sorry, I can only get you these. Hope you like them. I will always pray for you.” The moment I finished reading the note, tears rolled down my face. How could I lie to a person with such a gentle heart? I knew it was time to make up for my mistake.
The next evening, with a big apple pie made by myself, I stood at the doorstep of Bob’s house. Having gathered up my courage, I knocked on the door. Bob seemed to be a little surprised when he saw me outside. He explained that it was no big deal and that I needn’t have come to thank him. I lowered my head, apologizing to him for my silly behavior. To my surprise, he just smiled and patted me on the shoulder, saying, “It’s ok. Now shall we take a bite of this yummy apple pie?” I raised my head and nodded with tears of joy. Thanks to Bob, I have learned the magic power of kindness.

    Text 1 :
    听力录音稿

M: Did you know that there is a rainforest in Washington and Oregon? I read about it in National Geographic. A rainforest is any forest that has a high amount of rainfall per year.
W: That’s not the only one. I went to Alaska to hike through one last year.
    Text 2:
W: I have to talk to you about your schoolwork, Tom.

M: I’m sorry for handing in my homework late. I promise I’ll get my grades up.

W: I know you can improve your grades. What I’m most worried about is that you are so often sick at home and missing school.
    Text 3:
M: Helen, will you pick up Johnny from the kindergarten? I’m stuck in a traffic jam.

W: That’s terrible, honey. But an injured miner has just arrived here at the hospital and it seems that I will have to operate on him at once.
    Text 4:
M: I thought you said you were going to Greece for your holiday. Were the flights to Florida cheaper?

W: No. We know a couple who have an apartment there, so we didn't have to spend any money for a hotel. And the weather there was beautiful.
    Text 5:
M: I used to get the news from the daily newspaper, but now it feels like I’m wasting paper. W: You can try to read articles online or watch news stations on TV.
M: I don’t own a TV anymore. I’ll pay for a few news sources on my phone.
    Text 6:
W: I won’t go outside right now. It’s raining out there.

M: It’s just a little rain. There’s nothing to be afraid of. So what if your clothing gets a little wet? It’s only a short run to the car.
W: Speak for yourself. There’s lightning and thunder. I don’t want to get hit by that and end up in hospital.

M: Well, then you get to tell Jim why we are going to be late. You’d better call him and tell him why he’ll need to wait to serve dinner.
W: OK. I’ll ring him now.

    Text 7:
W: I love this apartment. The location is perfect.

M: Yes. I like the view of the river. We must be not far from the sea.

W: I worry, though. My friend once lived near a lake and said it attracted lots of flies.

M: I don’t think that’s anything to be concerned about here. There is no lake and I haven’t seen a single fly. W: You might be able to fish in the river.
M: Well, let’s not think about that. We need to see the rest of the apartment and decide if we can afford it. W: I don’t think it’s too expensive, and I think it’s the right size for our family.
M: I think you’re right, and we might be able to negotiate (协商) a discount.

W: Oh, isn’t it exciting? This could be our new home.

M: It sounds like you have already decided we’re having it. I think I agree with you. Text 8:
W: Did you see the decreases for the school budget? All teachers are going to get a pay reduction.

M: I heard that as well. Until COVID-19 is finished, all of us teachers will have less work to do and thus less pay.

W: I still need my full salary now I already have too much free time and not enough to do.

M: This time is difficult for everyone, but things will get better soon. I just hope the students will have enough learning material and a fast Internet connection.
W: You’re right. I’ll think positively. I’ve made educational videos recently to share with the students. What have you been working on?
M: I’ve been writing a book and sharing useful websites with my students. I’ll make more videos once I get a better camera.
W: I just got a new one. Also, I’ll be able to have perfect video calls as soon as I get a new computer. Text 9:
M: I need to study for my exams, but it’s impossible in this heat. I’ll need to go to the library later.

W: This dormitory doesn’t have air-conditioning. My roommate and I are thinking about moving to another dormitory or an apartment that has air-conditioning. My parents have great air-conditioning. I sometimes wish I lived at home.
M: I’ve thought about moving, too, but an apartment will cost more, especially the electricity bills.

Do you know air-conditioning today is cheaper than it was 10 years ago? On the other hand, electricity is more expensive.

W: I didn’t know that. How much difference is there?

M: 5 years ago it was possible to run air-conditioning 24 hours a day for just $20 a month. Today the same air-conditioning unit in the same house would cost over $45 a month.
W: That’s over double in just 5 years. Well, I guess I’ll ask my roommate whether we will see about the other dormitory. If it doesn’t work out, we will sweat all summer.
    Text 10:
The modern American holiday of Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908. It is on the second Sunday in May. It is a day to honor mothers. On that day mothers usually receive flowers and cards. On the cards, children often write, “Thanks, Mom”, “To the best mother in the world” and so on. Then where did the idea for the holiday come from? We should thank Miss Anna Marie Jarvis. It is she who brought up the idea of having such a day. She lived in West Virginia. Anna’s mother was a peace activist who cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the Civil War and created Mother’s Day Work Clubs to address public health issues (问题). Her mother died on May
9th, 1905. On the anniversary of her mother’s death, she invited some friends to an informal memorial meeting. In

1907, a church service was held on her mother’s death anniversary. Anna’s love for her mother moved other people. Besides, she wrote letters to important persons of the country suggesting a public holiday to honor all mothers. In 1914, the United States Congress agreed that the second Sunday in May should be appointed as Mother’s Day.
Finally, the decision was announced by President Wilson.
