I Spent a Year in Space, and I Have Tips on Isolation (隔离) to Share
Being stuck at home can be challenging. When I lived on the International Space Station for nearly a year, it wasn’t easy. But I learned some things that I’d like to share, as we all block ourselves at home to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. ___16___, from someone who has been there.
    Follow a schedule
On the space station, my time was scheduled tightly, ___17___. You will find carrying out a plan will help you and your family adjust to a different work and home life environment. When I returned to Earth, I even missed the daily life structure it had provided and found it hard to live without.
    ___18___
When you stay in a small space, you may need a way out of current environment. Some people are surprised to learn I brought books with me to space. The quiet and concentration you can find in a physical book — one that doesn’t remind you of checking mails — is priceless.
You can also practice a musical instrument, try a craft, or make some art. ___19___.
    Go outside
One of the things I missed most while living in space was being able to go outside and experience nature. After being confined to a small space for months, I actually started to crave nature — the color green, the smell of fresh dirt, and the feel of warm sun on my face.
For an astronaut, going outside is a dangerous undertaking that requires days of preparation. I therefore appreciate that in our current status (状态), ___20___ — no spacesuit needed.
    We are all connected

When you are paying attention to what someone’s saying, it’s a sign of caring and respect. The difficulty is that attending requires an act of will, which sometimes goes against what our minds naturally do — wandering around aimlessly.___21___That’s why it’s important for everyone to learn how to be a better listener.
    Pay attention.
A good listener is attentive. They’re not looking at their watch, phone, or thinking about their dinner plans. They’re focused and take notice of what the other person is saying. This is called active listening. As I mentioned, it’s normal for the mind to wander. We’re human, after all. ___22___
    ___23___
You can infer a lot from a person’s body language. Are they interested, bored or anxious? A good listener’s body language is open. They lean (倾斜) forward and express curiosity in what is being said. Their facial expression is either smiling, showing concern, conveying understanding, etc. They’re letting the speaker know that they are being heard.
    Avoid interrupting the speaker.
I am certain you wouldn’t want to be in the middle of a sentence only to see the other person holding up a finger or their mouth open, ready to step into your unfinished sentences. It is rude and causes anxiety. ___24___, which will make the speakers feel frustrated (沮丧的), hurried and unimportant. Whatever you have to say can wait until the other person is done.
    Keep confidential information confidential.
Being a good listener means being trustworthy and sensitive with shared information. ___25___. Make sure your speakers that their information is safe with you. They will feel relieved that they have someone with whom they can share their burden without fear of it getting out.
A.Cutting in is a sign of disrespect.
    B.Use positive body language.
C.Wait your turn to ask clarifying questions.
D.Whatever is told to you in confidence is not to be leaked.

You don’t even need to like what you’re making.____58____ When you don’t like what you are making, it frees you up to explore new ideas.
•Carve out time and space for art. Try to find a special time in your week to devote to your practice. You don’t need a few hours.____59____ In addition, try to set aside a corner table for your art supplies. In Halloween, children put on costumes and walk around the neighborhood. They ring doorbells and ask for treats. The custom of trick-or-treating has become popular in recent years. ____76____
Today I Found Out showed that the custom began with a Celtic tradition. It celebrated the end of the year by dressing up as evil spirits. Here is what the Celts believed. During Halloween, they would go around door to door, singing and praying in order to get food or money. ____79____ The children were then called “soulers”.
The earliest quotation of “trick or treat” in print was from the Calgary Herald, 3rd November, 1927. “Halloween came and went. ...The greatest activity was manifested by the very young, who wandered in droves from door to door, heavily disguised and demanding “trick or treat”. ____80____ ”

The ways may be various, but the all have one idea in common: _______81_______ External factor influence our lie to some degree, but it is mostly how we interpret external factors that has the greatest impact. Here is what we can do.
______82______ Do you want to catch a cold? Stay with people with a cold. I am not sure whether the advice stands, but it is partly true. People are likely to hang around with individuals who are similar to themselves. Poor people like to surround themselves with other poor people, and rich people with other rich people. Negative people are not optimistic. So make friends with positive people. ______83______
Accept and move on. Expecting everything to be perfect can be disturbing and it robs you of true happiness, so accept everything is not so perfect. Actually a meaningless thought is full of junk. ______84______ Then, go about your normal day and occupy your mind with an activity you love.
Mind your attitude. It starts the moment you wake up in the morning. Ask yourself: Do I want to be happy or miserable? _____85_____ If you intend to hold on to a negative frame of mind, you are inevitably choosing to be unhappy. If you want to achieve your own inner happiness you are likely to cultivate it through good and uplifting thoughts.

How is eating in space different from eating on Earth?
If you send astronauts into space, you have to send along food as well. But what do astronauts eat, and how do they eat it? Scientists take several factors into consideration as they plan meals for space.
First, and possibly most important, is nutrition (营养). ____86____ Providing junk food to eat, such as potato chips, sodas, and pizza, would make the astronauts unhealthy.
____87____ If the food that has been provided is distasteful, then the astronauts may avoid eating it. If you’ve ever tried to concentrate on something important while your stomach doesn’t feel well, you’ll know why the scientists in charge of a space mission(task) want their astronauts to eat regularly.
The lack (缺少) of gravity (pull) in a spacecraft also determines what foods can or cannot be eaten in space. Meals must be packaged carefully so they won’t spill(洒落/溢出) into the cabin (one of the areas inside a spacecraft). Water or tiny bits of food could get inside a machine or electronic device and damage it. ____88____ A loose knife bouncing (弹起) around inside the cabin would be dangerous.
____89____ The weight of every object included in a spacecraft must be calculated (计算) in order to ensure that there is enough fuel and power to carry the craft safely into space and back home again. ____90____ Most foods are stored in plastic bags, and often, the foods are dehydrated (使脱水). When an astronaut is ready to eat, hot water is added to the meal and warm it up.
Despite all these requirements, much of the food eaten in space is actually similar to what you might eat on any given day.
    A.Taste is also important.
B.Finally, weight is an important concern.
C.Food packaging is made to be as light as possible.
D.Believe it or not, they also have fresh fruits and vegetables.
E.Nutrition and practicality(实用) are important things to consider.
F.For the same reason, sharp knives and folks are never used on board.
G.Keeping astronauts’ physical health is a top task for any space mission.

Some people find hobbies boring or simply think of them as a waste of time. However, what they do not know is that hobbies can do a lot of good to a person in his or her everyday life.
Hobbies can make new social interactions. Many hobbies get you out in your communities. ____91____ Countless studies have found that social interactions are a key to happiness and a meaningful life, and hobbies have the potential to create precious new ties.
____92____ Hobbies give you something to talk about at parties and around the water cooler. They add layers to your identity. People want to be around you because you always have a sense of curiosity and stories to tell.
Hobbies help you structure your time. This is so amazing. ____93____ When the evening is unscheduled, you might find yourself working late into the night, designing a work project or answering emails. Chances are, if you have a book club meeting that night, you may get those tasks done much more quickly. ____94____
Hobbies help you reduce pressure. Studies show that learning something new or improving a skill gives you a sense of achievement. ____95____ Now imagine that after work you head out to your soccer league or pottery (陶艺) class. These activities are more than only relaxing. They remind you that you are not only an employee, but also an athlete or an artist. Hobbies let you forget your worries, overcome boredom, and have fun.

G.Imagine a rough day at the office, where you work so hard and feel stressful.

Some people love the tradition of setting a goal each Jan. 1st. ____96____. But there is actually a logic to joining the New Year’s resolution trend. If you want to increase your chances of sticking to your 2022 New Year’s resolution, behavioral scientists have discovered a host of techniques that can help.
    • Make it measurable.
An unclear, ill-defined target, such as “get fitter”, is a reason for a failed resolution. To increase your chances of success, ask yourself what you consider "fitter" and how you can achieve this. A better solution might be “run 5kms in X minutes". ____97____. Specific goals allow you to track progress, which in turn can motivate you.
    • Make it fun.
If you get pleasure from your workouts or study sessions, research has found you’11 carry on longer. ____98____. For example, only letting yourself drink a mocha latte during study sessions so there is an attraction to get you to the library.
    • ____99____.
Ensuring you’ll face some punishment if you don’t achieve your New Year’s resolution can work wonders. One easy way to do this is by telling a few people about your goal so you 11 feel ashamed if they check back later and find out you haven’t followed through.
    • Get a little help from your friends.
Spending time around high achievers can promote your own performance. If your resolution is to run a marathon, you’d be wise to start hanging around friends who’ve made it to the finish line and can show you how it’s done. ____100____,because you’ll tend to learn their patterns of behavior.
    A.Consider a punishment
    B.Figure out your resolution list
C.You’re extra motivated to set your goals
D.You’ll pick up a bit just by spending time together
E.You could even add deadlines for reaching certain important stages

根据后文“Some animals are trained for humans to ride or to pull vehicles, such as carts or sledges (雪橇) which may be loaded with goods or people. Other beasts of burden are trained as pack animals to carry loads which are attached to their bodies.(一些动物被训练来让人类骑或拉交通工具,比如可以装载货物或人的手推车或雪橇。

21.根据上文“When you are paying attention to what someone’s saying, it’s a sign of caring and respect. The difficulty is that attending requires an act of will, which sometimes goes against what our minds naturally do — wandering around aimlessly.(当你注意听别人说话时,这是关心和尊重的表现。
22.根据上文“A good listener is attentive. They’re not looking at their watch, phone, or thinking about their dinner plans. They’re focused and take notice of what the other person is saying. This is called active listening. As I mentioned, it’s normal for the mind to wander. We’re human, after all.(一个好的倾听者是专注的。
23.根据本段内容“You can infer a lot from a person’s body language. Are they interested, bored or anxious? A good listener’s body language is open. They lean (倾斜) forward and express curiosity in what is being said. Their facial expression is either smiling, showing concern, conveying understanding, etc. They’re letting the speaker know that they are being heard.(你可以从一个人的肢体语言中推断出很多东西。
24.根据上文“I am certain you wouldn’t want to be in the middle of a sentence only to see the other person holding up a finger or their mouth open, ready to step into your unfinished sentences. It is rude and causes anxiety.(我敢肯定,你不会想在一句话说到一半的时候,看到对方举起一根手指,或者张着嘴,准备开始你的未完成的句子。
25.根据上文“Being a good listener means being trustworthy and sensitive with shared information.(做一个好的倾听者意味着对所分享的信息保持信任和敏感)”以及后文“Make sure your speakers that their information is safe with you. They will feel relieved that they have someone with whom they can share their burden without fear of it getting out.(确保说话人的信息在你这里是安全的。

In fact, anything can serve as a concept of a work of art.(首先,我们需要灵感。 而下文“Sometimes we will need people, volunteers, bodies to do so and finding willing people to work is hard.(有时我们需要人、志愿者、人模来做这些,而找到愿意做这些工作的人很难。)” 因此中间需要有过度,E项“The hard part comes when we put our ideas into reality.(我们要把想法变为实际时,困难就来了。)”
38.本题设空处位于段首,根据下文“We need a space to be able to be creative and that can be tricky to acquire. Sometimes we need art supplies or certain equipment and costumes and that can cost money. Even if we do acquire what we need, visions change and mistakes happen so we might not end up using the resources.(我们需要一个能够发挥创造力的空间,而这很难获得。 结合选项可知,D项“Resources are also a huge factor in making art.(资源也是艺术创作的一个重要因素。)”
39.上文“The process can take weeks, months, and even years to be fully realized. Once completed, we need to share it and find an audience and provide an environment to display our work.(这个过程可能需要几周、几个月、甚至几年的时间才能完全实现。 提到了作品完成后会做的事情;下文“What if nobody likes what we created? What if our vision isn’t what we thought though completed?(如果没有人喜欢我们创造的东西怎么办? 是对完成作品后可能出现问题的假设,且都是一些消极的想法,F项“And the negative thoughts love to overpower our minds.(我们的大脑里总是充斥着各种消极的想法。)”
40.上文“Creating art is an art in itself. It is really not as easy as many people think.(艺术创作本身就是一种艺术。 总结性地提到了艺术创作并不是那么容易的;下文“It’s how we express ourselves and how we communicate with the rest of the world.(它是我们表达自我的方式,也是我们与世界交流的方式。)” G项“It takes time, patience and space when things don’t go as expected.(当事情不像预期那样发展时,需要时间、耐心和空间。)”

41.上文“Effective note-taking is an active part of the learning process that requires you to get the main idea and write down its key words in your own way.(有效的记笔记是学习过程中的一个积极部分,它要求你掌握主要思想,并用自己的方式写下其中的关键词。)”说明有效笔记的重要性,下文“Prepare for the lecture in advance.(提前准备讲座。)”及“Find your style of taking notes.(找到你的笔记风格。)”及“Take down key points.(记下关键点。)”
42.上文“Teachers hand out outlines of their lectures before they begin. 及下文“It can help you focus on the difficulties you have in understanding and you will be able to ask better questions in class.(它可以帮助你专注于理解中遇到的困难,你将能够在课堂上提出更好的问题。)”
43.上边小标题“Find your style of taking notes.(找到你的笔记风格。)”及下文“For example, some visual learners could draw certain shapes to represent important concepts. Some people prefer writing words, and some may find it most helpful to record a lecture and listen to it while studying.
44.下文“Rather than writing complete sentences or even complete words, create a form of fast and brief writing with some signs or phrases to make note-taking easier. This will help you take notes quickly and keep up with the lecture. 故选A项。
45.上文“It is important to write down key points from the lecture.(写下讲座的要点很重要。)”及下文“Things like key ideas, definitions, and descriptive phrases can help you remember the subject.

49.根据上文“Nature provides every creature a chance to exist, however big or small it may be. (大自然为每一种生物提供了生存的机会,不管它是大是小)”和下文“The tiger eats the antelope; without the antelope, the tiger wouldn't survive. Likewise, without tigers, the overpopulation of antelopes would cause them to starve to death.(老虎吃羚羊;没有羚羊,老虎就活不下去了。 G项“But the existence of one creature depends on the existence of the other (但是一种生物的存在取决于另一种生物的存在)”符合文意,承上启下。故选G项。
结合本段内容“Just like the icy cold snow melts (融化) in the warmth of spring to give birth to fresh green leaves, come autumn these leaves age into shades of gold only to be once again buried in the cold winter. 由此可知,A项“Change is the only constant (变化是唯一不变的)”符合本段主旨。故选A项。

(尽早开始)”可知本段主要内容主要是说明培养责任要趁早,结合空格前句说明“Begin teaching responsibility when your kid is very young.
(引导你的孩子)”可知本段讲的是如何引导孩子负责任,空格前句表明“It’s important for a parent to understand kids’ skill level and give them tasks suitable for the skill level. 和空格后“ First....also...”
(谈论责任)”可知本段建议根孩子谈论责任,结合空格后说“Children who hear this word from an early age also quickly understand the meaning of responsibility.
55.本题设空在句首,根据前文结构可知,第一句为小标题且是祈使句,下文内容“The best way your kids will learn to act responsibly is by observing you and other family members.Show your responsibility by acting in a responsible manner at all times in front of your children. By observing your actions your kids will slowly learn to be responsible.

Actually a meaningless thought is full of junk.(接受现实,继续前进。
85.根据上文“Mind your attitude. It starts the moment you wake up in the morning. Ask yourself: Do I want to be happy or miserable?(在意你的态度。 以及后文“If you intend to hold on to a negative frame of mind, you are inevitably choosing to be unhappy. If you want to achieve your own inner happiness you are likely to cultivate it through good and uplifting thoughts.(如果你想要保持一种消极的心态,你将不可避免地选择不快乐。

89.后文“The weight of every object included in a spacecraft must be calculated (计算) in order to ensure that there is enough fuel and power to carry the craft safely into space and back home again.
90.后文“Most foods are stored in plastic bags, and often, the foods are dehydrated (使脱水). When an astronaut is ready to eat, hot water is added to the meal and warm it up.”(大多数食物都储存在塑料袋里,而且这些食物经常是脱水的。
