In my opinion, the generation gap(代沟) is a result of our “pride” and “prejudice” (偏见). Since I started junior high school, my parents and I have had different opinions. Both sides won’t yield. My mother always ends by telling me that, “A child knows nothing about this!”, and I often ask, “Are you still living in the 20th century?”
As we grow up, we have our own values and beliefs slowly. The fact is that we are growing up in two different centuries. So it is common for us to have developed values that are different from those of our parents.
But our parents always think we are still little kids. It seems that they don’t want to accept the fact that we are growing up. When we grow up, we feel a strong need to show ourselves, but our parents don’t want to listen to us. Instead, they think they are always right. Why are they unable to open their hearts and talk more with their children so that their children can feel loved and understood?
I think both sides must give up their pride and prejudice and build equality and trust. Only in this way will the generation gap be smaller.
23.What does the underlined word “yield” in Paragraph 1 mean?

A.give up their pride and prejudice B.build equality and trust
C.make the generation gap smaller D.open their hearts and talk more

There was once a little grey planet that was very sad. The people living there hadn’t looked after it, although they had all the inventions and spaceships you could ever need. They had polluted the whole countryside so much with rubbish that there were no plants or animals left.
One day, a little boy was walking on the planet, when he passed a cave and noticed a small red flower inside. The flower was very sick—almost dying—so the boy carefully dug up the flower, with roots, soil and everything.
Then, he started looking for a place where he could look after it. He searched all over the planet, but everywhere was so polluted that there was no place the flower could possibly live in. Then he looked up at the sky and noticed the moon. It seemed that maybe the plant could survive there.
So the little boy put on his astronaut suit, and climbed into a space ship. He put the little red flower in the back, and they went to the moon.
Far away from all that pollution—and with the boy visiting it every day to look after it—the flower started to grow. The flower was so well cared for that it had soon grew, giving birth to others, and these other flowers spread on to other flowers. Before long, the whole moon was completely covered with flowers.
When the flowers open, the moon looks red, like a warming light. People on the grey planet all felt because of their bad actions before after they knew the truth from the little boy. Many years later, the grey planet turned green and looked red just like the red moon every spring. People there were all proud of it.

Have you ever wondered what animals are talking about? With the development of AI, we may be able to understand their languages!
In Professor Karen Bakker’s new book, The Sounds of Life: How Digital Technology Is Bringing Us Closer to the Worlds of Animals and Plants, she talks about how AI is helping us to make an animal version of Google Translation.
All around the animal kingdom, there are sounds that we can hardly pickup and understand. Elephants for example talk with each other using infrasound(次声波)—far below our human hearing range(范围). Coral(珊瑚) in the ocean also sends sound waves to attract baby coral to safer areas to grow. This is surprising as coral doesn’t have any ears! Scientists have placed listening equipment into these environments to pick up the sounds humans cannot hear.
After the sounds are recorded, AI can study their meaning, according to the news website Vox. For example, Israeli researchers used AI to translate bats’15, 000 calls. They found that more than 60 percent were arguments about four things: food, sleep positions, invasion(入侵) of personal space, and unwanted advances(过分殷勤).
This technology can not only understand the animals but communicate back to them. For example, bees use dances to communicate. A research team in Germany, therefore, put the bee language AI system into a robot bee. They asked the robot to create a dance routine to tell the bees where the flowers were, Vox reported.
33.What can AI do for people in Karen Bakker’s opinion?
A.AI helps people do translations better.
B.AI helps animals receive human’s sound.
C.AI helps people better understand animals.
D.AI can help people develop Google Translation.
34.What do we know about the sounds made by animals?
A.Some of the sounds cannot be heard by humans.
B.Corals have ears that can hear all animal sounds.
C.They can help animals get used to their environments.
D.All communications among elephants are infrasound.
35.How did scientists tell bees where the flowers were?
A.By training other bees to lead them there.
B.By creating a certain sound with the AI system.
C.By asking a robot bee to teach them a new language.
D.By making a robot bee tell the bees about it through dances.
36.Which of the following can be the best tile for the text?
A.Recording sounds with AI B.Talking to animals with AI
C.Receiving infrasound with AI D.Learning the bee language

根据全文及最后一段“I think both sides must give up their pride and prejudice and build equality and trust. Only in this way will the generation gap be smaller.”

    50.sadness

根据“one of Britain’s ... female writers”可知,此处是固定搭配one of+the+形容词最高级+名词复数“最……之一”,因此此处应用形容词good的最高级。故填best。
    42.句意:她出生在1775年12月16日。根据“16 December 1775”可知,此处应用时间介词,修饰具体的某一天。故填on。
故填them。
根据“the kids wrote”和“Jane ... to write.” 故填was encouraged。
根据“many parties that ... held in the great house”可知,此处是定语从句,先行词是parties, parties和hold构成逻辑上的主谓关系,因此此处应用被动语态,结合本文是一般过去时。故填were。
根据“Jane Austen wrote her first novel”可知,此处修饰动词,应用副词。故填successfully。
根据“In her early”可知,此处是固定搭配in one’s twenties“在某人二十多岁时”。故填twenties。
根据“she began to write her most famous novels”和“these books were not published until many years later.” 故填But。
根据“To our ”可知,此处是固定搭配to one’s +名词“让某人……的是”,此处应用形容词的名词形式。故填sadness。
51.was tired out after trying out for the School Football
选拔”,after“在……之后”,after之后应用动名词;the School Football Team“校足球队”。故填was tired out after trying out for the School Football。
52.to get on well with the peers/to get along with the peers
【详解】get on well with sb=get along with sb“与……友好相处”,the peers“同龄人”,固定句式:It is+形容词+for sb to do sth“对某人来说,做某事是……的”,故填to get on well with the peers/to get along with the peers。
53.that you will think twice before making a final decision/you will think twice before making a final decision
故填that you will think twice before making a final decision/you will think twice before making a final decision。
54.is advised to explain the eternal value of the music/is advised to explain the eternal value of this music/was advised to explain the eternal value of the music/was advised to explain the eternal value of this music
    【详解】他he,在句中作主语;建议某人做某事advise sb. to do sth.,主语he和谓语动词advise构成动宾关系,应用被动语态,由句意知此句可用一般现在时或一般过去时的被动语态,其构成分别为“am/is are+过去分词”或“was/were+过去分词”,主语he为第三人称单数,be动词用is或was;这首音乐the/this music,其所有格用of构成;永恒价值eternal value,这首音乐的永恒价值the enternal value of the/this music。故填is/was advised to explain the eternal value of the/this music。
55.was so nervous that he couldn’t express himself clearly
故填was so nervous that he couldn’t express himself clearly。
    56. The products were not up to standard/These products were not up to standard didn’t lose heart
    【详解】the/these products“这些产品”;be up to standard“达到标准”,根据题干可知动作已发生,应用一般过去时,主语是复数,be动词用were,是否定句,后加not;lose heart“灰心”,此处是否定句,应用助动词didn’t,后加动词原形。故填The/These products were not up to standard;didn’t lose heart。

I’m glad to hear from you and learn about such a great novel. I prefer to read works of literature. These days I’m reading a book called The Little Orange Lamp.
