During my early childhood years, I would spend time with my dad in Alabama, fishing and hiking through the woods.
This is where I found my first box turtle crossing a busy road. I rescued the animal out of harm’s way. Without money for after-school programs and sports, I would spend my spare time catching crawfish, frogs, and making home-made fishing poles.
I would catch small fish, put them in barrels, and use them to catch larger fish, primarily sunfish, crappie, and catfish. I moved back to Chicago in the 3rd grade and became saddened that I was unable to swim at local beaches and eat fish that were caught from Lake Michigan.
When I started having behavioral issues in elementary school, my teachers would send me to my guidance teacher Dr. Deborah Hawes to do math and science projects.
I would intentionally disrupt (扰乱) the class, knowing that I would get sent down to her office for guidance. Dr. Hawes was passionate about science and math. Her goal was to help every student realize the importance of these subjects, and how they relate to everyday living. As a result, she was able to convince me to participate in science fair project competitions.
Surprisingly, I did incredibly well at those competitions and received numerous awards throughout the city at larger competitions. It was after 8th grade that Dr. Hawes convinced me to transfer to another high school which is famous for its agricultural sciences. This by far, was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life.
It was while attending this high school that I became interested in the study of environmental and animal sciences. My time here was what stimulated my interest in animal science and conservation and motivated me to continue my education in a local top university, where I was awarded a partial scholarship.
I completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science in 2004. In 2008, I earned a Master of Science degree while conducting research on turtle nests. As a graduate student from 2006 to 2008, I guided high school and college students by helping them design research projects focusing on reptiles
In 2009, I became the Savanna Districts first-ever Wildlife Biologist. I am stationed at one of the most visited refuges (保护区) in the nation, which attracts millions of hunters, fishermen, and other outdoor enthusiasts from across the nation.
    24. What do we know about the writer?
    A. He got his first box turtle on the way home.
    B. He felt troubled by his behavioral problems.
    C. He enjoyed the outdoor time in early childhood.
    D. He refused to join after-school activities in Alabama.
    25. Why did the writer like Dr. Hawes?
    A. She fueled his passion for science. B. She made him realize the importance of education.
    C. She helped him win a full scholarship. D. She improved his relationship with other teachers.
    26. Which is the right order of the events?
    a. I transferred from my former school.
    b. I helped students design research projects.
    c. I got the Bachelor's Degree in a famous university.
    d. I performed well in science fair project competitions.
    e. I became the Savanna Districts first Wildlife Biologist.
    A. adbce B. dabce C. adcbe D. dacbe
    27. What can we learn from the passage?
    A. Interest is the best teacher. B. One is never too old to learn.
    C. Actions speak louder than words. D. Chance favors the prepared mind.
C 25. A 26. D 27. A
根据第三段的“I moved back to Chicago in the 3rd grade and became saddened that I was unable to swim at local beaches and eat fish that were caught from Lake Michigan.(我在三年级时搬回了芝加哥,并为我无法在当地的海滩游泳和吃从密歇根湖捕获的鱼而感到难过)”可知,他回忆起小时候在户外玩耍的时光时流露出了依依不舍,这说明他很享受童年时期的户外时光。
根据第四段的“I would intentionally disrupt the class, knowing that I would get sent down to her office for guidance. Dr. Hawes was passionate about science and math. Her goal was to help every student realize the importance of these subjects, and how they relate to everyday living. As a result, she was able to convince me to participate in science fair project competitions.(我会故意扰乱课堂,知道我会被派到她的办公室寻求指导。 故选A项。
根据第六段的“ It was after 8th grade that Dr. Hawes convinced me to transfer to another high school which is famous for its agricultural sciences.(八年级之后,霍斯博士说服我转学到另一所以农业科学而闻名的高中)”可知,a中事情发生在作者离开霍斯博士所在学校之后;根据倒数第二段的“ As a graduate student from 2006 to 2008, I guided high school and college students by helping them design research projects focusing on reptiles.(2006 年至 2008 年我研究生在读,指导高中生和大学生,帮助他们设计以爬行动物为重点的研究项目)”可知,b中事情发生的时间为2006年至2008年;根据倒数第二段的“ I completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science in 2004. (我于2004 年获得了动物科学的理学学士学位)”可知,c中事情发生的时间为2004年;根据第六段的“Surprisingly, I did incredibly well at those competitions and received numerous awards throughout the city at larger competitions.
根据倒数第三段的“It was while attending this high school that I became interested in the study of environmental and animal sciences. My time here was what stimulated my interest in animal science and conservation and motivated me to continue my education in a local top university, where I was awarded a partial scholarship.(正是在上这所高中时,我对环境和动物科学的研究产生了兴趣。在这里的时光激发了我对环境科学和动物科学研究的兴趣,并促使我继续在当地一所顶尖大学接受教育,在那里我获得了部分奖学金)”和第3题的分析可知,作者对环境科学和动物科学的研究产生了兴趣,后来获得了动物科学的理学学士学位并在2009年成为了稀树草原区首位野生动物生物学家。由此可以判断出兴趣是最好的老师。故选A项。
    C
I bet your grandparents never imagined they would see the day when they could plug in a car like a lamp. No more smelly gasoline (汽油)! No more waste gases polluting the atmosphere! One way to address the climate crisis, we are told, is to electrify transport. This will remove our dependence on fossil fuels like gasoline that pollute the atmosphere and trap greenhouse gases that make our planet warmer. Currently, electric vehicles make up 2 percent of the global car market. The U.S. plans to have at least half of all vehicles sold in the U.S. run completely on electricity by 2035 and stop making gas-powered cars within the next 20 years.
However, electric cars use 1-2 kg of magnets (磁体) to power them and each of these magnets uses special materials. It turns out that getting the required supplies is harder than you think. Let’s find out why.
Rare earth metals (also called Rare Earth Elements or REEs) have strong magnetic properties that make them ideal for powering many of the devices we use today, such as smartphones, computers and electric car batteries. REEs aren’t really rare, at least not in the way you might think. Even the rarest REE is 125 times more common than gold! REEs are “rare” because they are mostly found only in small quantities. Generally, they are found in a rare igneous rock (火成岩) called carbonate (碳酸盐), which contains 17 minerals — which must all be separated. The process is hard, dirty and can be very expensive. Keep in mind, however, that producing and processing are different steps. Producing is the act of mining metals; processing is the act of separating the minerals. Many countries mine carbonate including the United States, Australia, Brazil and Canada. China alone produces 63 percent of REEs today, which is down from a high of 90 percent! China now controls 85 percent of REEs processing. That is because the producing countries send their REEs to China for processing.
Electric cars are increasing in popularity with many traditional car companies introducing all-electric models. This switch will increase the demand for REEs which is prompting car companies to work directly with the mines to save costs. Many people still have concerns about the environmental effects of increased mining. Though several companies are working to go green, mining is known to have a history with known dangers such as pollution and the risk of deadly accidents. The mining of these metals is even known to produce radioactive (放射性的) wastewater!
A new chapter in climate history is possible if mining can be done safely. In fewer than a hundred years, most cars on the road will use electricity or two different types of power. The traditional cars, harmful to the environment, will be a thing of the past.
    28. Why is it hard to get required supplies for electric cars?
    A. Because they are not as common as gold.
    B. Because the step of producing is very difficult.
    C. Because they are also used in many other fields.
    D. Because they are hard to separate from carbonate.
    29. What can we learn from the passage?
    A. There are more countries processing REEs than mining them.
    B. Electric cars may get more widely used if mining can be safer.
    C. Car companies prefer to seek professional teams to mine REEs.
    D. Electric cars account for almost half of the global car market now.
    30. What is the best title of the passage?
    A. The Challenges of Electric Cars B. The Future of Rare Earth Metals
    C. The History of Rare Earth Metals D. The Development of Electric Cars
D 29. B 30. A

根据最后一段“A new chapter in climate history is possible if mining can be done safely. In fewer than a hundred years, most cars on the road will use electricity or two different types of power. The traditional cars, harmful to the environment, will be a thing of the past.”(如果能够安全地进行采矿,气候历史就有可能翻开新的一页。
根据第二段“It turns out that getting the required supplies is harder than you think. ”(事实证明,获得所需物资比你想象的要难)以及倒数第二段“Though several companies are working to go green, mining is known to have a history with known dangers such as pollution and the risk of deadly accidents. The mining of these metals is even known to produce radioactive (放射性的) wastewater!”(虽然有几家公司正在努力实现绿色,但众所周知,采矿业有着污染和致命事故风险等已知危险的历史。开采这些金属甚至会产生放射性废水!)以及第一题解析可知,这篇文章主要描写电动汽车面临的挑战。A项“电动车面临的挑战”可以作为本文最佳标题。故选A。
    D
The term “metaverse (元宇宙)” is the latest popular word to catch the tech industry’s imagination. Neal Stephenson coined this term in his novel Snow Crash:“In the lingo, this imaginary place is known as the metaverse. Hiro spends a lot of time in the metaverse.” In its current meaning, it generally refers to the concept of a world of endless, interconnected virtual communities where people gather to socialize, play and work, using VR headsets, AR glasses, smartphone apps or other devices. It is a “virtual environment” you can go inside of — instead of just looking at on a screen. It also could be a game-changer for the work-from-home shift during the COVID-19 epidemic. Instead of seeing co-workers on a video call, employees could join them in a virtual office.
A big reason why metaverse is popular with young people is the more real gaming experience.Gamers will feel that they themselves are playing in an alternate world rather than controlling a game character. This creates a real-time experience for all the players.
In addition, it has more far-reaching significance. Some advocates believe that blockchain (区域链) technology and decentralized (分散式的) apps will be the keys to unlocking the next big step forward for the Web: the metaverse, a place where AR, VR, next-generation data networks and decentralized financing and payment systems contribute to a more realistic digital world where people can socialize, work and trade digital goods. It is known that many products need to be tested and it costs a lot. With metaverse, the variables and environment can be changed within the digital world to obtain more comprehensive results and the new product will be tested with minimum cost. In the medical field, using metaverse patients just do not have any need to visit doctors physically. They can just interact with them face to face in real-time in the digital world. Additionally, the newcomer to medicine can learn and practice inside the alternate world by gaining experience before they can take on real-world tasks.
Metaverse brings many new and advanced technologies such as VR headsets, blockchain and other requirements. However, every individual on this planet does not have access to advanced technologies. For example, fast Internet connectivity is one of the mandatory (强制性的) requirements for participating in the metaverse. Majority of people worldwide cannot access fast Internet and cannot capitalize on the full potential of the metaverse. Furthermore, with the objective of introducing immersive experiences to users, the metaverse makes the gap between real and virtual worlds less clear. It also brings the possibilities of influencing the ways in which people perceive real relationships and interactions.
Despite the arguing, metaverse is a new windfall for the future development of the Internet. The companies can seize the opportunity that the metaverse presents to connect with audiences in ways that were never possible before and provide exciting and memorable brand experiences.
    31. The author mentions Neal Stephenson’s novel to show ________.
A the effect of metaverse B. the origin of metaverse
    C. the definition of metaverse D. the popularity of metaverse
    32. What is the purpose of Paragraph 4?
    A. To show the potential of the metaverse.
    B. To state the limitations of the use of metaverse.
    C. To introduce new and advanced technologies.
    D. To teach how to have access to advanced technologies.
    33. What can we infer about metaverse?
    A. It helps people develop real relationships and interactions.
    B. It provides cheaper labor cost to make product testing easier.
    C. It can be accepted in medical field for its help to doctors and patients.
    D. It is welcomed because people prefer to control a character in a game.
    34. What is author’s attitude towards metaverse?
    A. Neutral. B. Approved. C. Opposed. D. Doubtful.
B 32. B 33. C 34. B
根据第一段“Neal Stephenson coined this term in his novel Snow Crash:'In the lingo, this imaginary place is known as the metaverse. Hiro spends a lot of time in the metaverse.' (尼尔·斯蒂芬森在他的小说《雪花坠落》中创造了这个词:“在行话中,这个虚构的地方被称为元宇宙。Hiro花了很多时间在元宇宙中。”)”可知作者提到尼尔·斯蒂芬森的小说来展示metaverse的起源。故选B。
    【32题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“However, every individual on this planet does not have access to advanced technologies. For example, fast Internet connectivity is one of the mandatory (强制性) requirements for participating in the metaverse.
根据第三段“In the medical field, using metaverse patients just do not have any need to visit doctors physically. They can just interact with them face to face in real-time in the digital world. Additionally, the newcomer to medicine can learn and practice inside the alternate world by gaining experience before they can take on real-world tasks. (在医学领域,使用metaverse的患者根本不需要去看医生。他们可以在数字世界中与他们面对面地进行实时交互。此外,医学新手可以通过在另一个世界中学习和实践获得经验,然后承担实际任务。)”可知,由于元宇宙对医生和患者的帮助,它可以被医学界所接受。故选C。
    【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Despite the arguing, metaverse is a new windfall for the future development of the Internet. The companies can seize the opportunity that the metaverse presents to connect with audiences in ways that were never possible before and provide exciting and memorable brand experiences. (尽管存在争议,metaverse是互联网未来发展的一笔新横财。这些公司可以抓住metaverse提供的机会,以前所未有的方式与观众沟通,并提供令人激动和难忘的品牌体验。)”可知作者对metaverse的态度是“赞成的”,即Approved。故选B。
    第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)
    根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑,选项中有两项为多余选项。
The television this morning was displaying some new adventure movie about the hunt for a treasure ship full of gold. ___35___ Most of main characters have the dream of becoming an overnight millionaire. Later in the day I was at the gas station in line to pay for a filling up my car when the guy in front of me traded a handful of cash for a handful of hope in the form of Lotto tickets.
Where did this desire for treasure come from? I know I myself am guilty of it. As a boy I would walk in the woods and daydream of finding buried treasure there. Then as an adult I would fantasize about some unknown relative leaving me a fortune or of my two self-published books becoming best sellers. ___36___ However, when I see all the rich and famous people on television I can see that they aren’t that happy and that they have their own unique set of problems.
___37___ There really is a true treasure out there that will make our lives so much better and the most amazing thing of all is this treasure is absolutely free. This treasure is love. There is so much love around us and when we invite the love into our hearts and lives we become rich, our days are filled with smiles, and our lives are full of joy. When we have love inside us, the problems of this life lose their power over us. ___38___
Then how shall we look for treasure? The true treasure of life is already inside of you. ___39___ And the funny thing is that the more you share it with others, the more of it you have within yourself. Embrace love for you then. Share it with the world. It is a treasure that does not decay or disappear. It is a treasure that lasts forever.
    A. While our lives may not be perfect, we are happy.
    B. You just need to open the chest and spend it like crazy.
    C. It doesn’t necessarily mean we need to dig holes to find treasure.
    D. Maybe the real problem is that we are all looking for the wrong treasure.
    E. It reminded me of all the other movies just like it I had seen over the years.
    F. Treasure is usually defined as gathered wealth in the form of money or jewels.
    G. Perhaps we all just think that having a lot of money will solve all of our problems.
E 36. G 37. D 38. A 39. B
根据上文“The television this morning was displaying some new adventure movie about the hunt for a treasure ship full of gold.(今天早上电视播放了一些新的冒险电影,是关于寻找装满金子的宝船的)”以及下文“Most of main characters have the dream of becoming an overnight millionaire. (大多数主角都梦想一夜成为百万富翁)”可知,本句应承上启下,说明这部电影带给作者的感受:让我想起了这么多年来我看过的所有其他电影。故E选项“它让我想起了这么多年来我看过的所有其他电影”符合语境,故选E。
    【36题详解】
根据上文“Where did this desire for treasure come from? I know I myself am guilty of it. As a boy I would walk in the woods and daydream of finding buried treasure there. Then as an adult I would fantasize about some unknown relative leaving me a fortune or of my two self-published books becoming best sellers.(这种寻宝的欲望从何而来?我知道我自己也有罪。小时候,我常在树林里散步,幻想着在那里找到埋藏的宝藏。成年后,我会幻想某个不知名的亲戚给我留下一笔财富,或者我自己出版的两本书成为畅销书)”以及后文“However, when I see all the rich and famous people on television I can see that they aren’t that happy and that they have their own unique set of problems.(然而,当我在电视上看到所有的富人和名人时,我可以看到他们并不那么快乐,他们有自己独特的问题)”可知,后文提到富人和名人也有自己的问题,说明钱并不能解决所有问题,本句与后文构成转折,故G选项“也许我们都认为有很多钱就能解决我们所有的问题”符合语境,故选G。
根据后文“There really is a true treasure out there that will make our lives so much better and the most amazing thing of all is this treasure is absolutely free. This treasure is love.(真的有一个真正的宝藏在那里,它会让我们的生活变得更好,最令人惊讶的是,这个宝藏是绝对免费的。这个宝藏就是爱)”可知,后文提到了真正的宝藏是爱,说明上文提到的将金钱作为宝藏是错误的,故D选项“也许真正的问题是我们都在寻找错误的宝藏”符合语境,故选D。
    【38题详解】
根据上文“There is so much love around us and when we invite the love into our hearts and lives we become rich, our days are filled with smiles, and our lives are full of joy. When we have love inside us, the problems of this life lose their power over us.(我们周围有太多的爱,当我们邀请爱进入我们的心和生活,我们变得丰富,我们的日子充满了微笑,我们的生活充满了欢乐。当我们心中有爱时,生活中的问题就会失去对我们的影响)”可知,上文提到生活中存在问题,即并不完美,但爱可以让人很幸福。故A选项“虽然我们的生活可能不完美,但我们很幸福”符合语境,故选A。
    【39题详解】
根据上文“Then how shall we look for treasure? The true treasure of life is already inside of you.(那我们怎么找宝藏呢?真正的生命宝藏已经在你体内)”以及后文“And the funny thing is that the more you share it with others, the more of it you have within yourself.(有趣的是,你和别人分享的越多,你自己也会拥有越多)”可知,上文提到生命宝藏已经存在体内,后文提到和别人分享,即要打开心扉和他人共享宝藏。
    A Reflection about Change
Change can be exciting and hard. It is also a fact of life in the world of education. I am a librarian at a high school. I have worked as a librarian for the past eleven years. This year my school is going through a tremendous transition. There is a new school building being constructed with a mid-year move planned. Additionally, due to some restructuring, I am working with a new teaching partner and two new grade levels. This is all incredibly exciting but also brings a level of uncertainty too. I could look at this in a negative way, but instead, I am going to focus on the upside to this transition. So here I share some ways I am embracing this change.
Working with teachers, that I have not had an opportunity to work with before, will allow me to gain new perspectives about the needs of the students in my school. The library program has been something I have worked hard to build over the past nine years. I am very close to it. It will be helpful for someone who has an outside perspective to ask questions about our practices. It will allow me to reflect on why we do certain things and will make the program better moving forward.
As I gain new perspectives from my colleagues, I also have an opportunity to share the mission of the library. It has given me a chance to highlight some of the great lessons and projects I have had the opportunity to be a part of in the past.
Is this a hill I want to die on? This is about recognizing the things that I can change and making those work rather than worrying about things that I have no control over. It is about not sweating the small stuff. If I ask myself this question and the answer is no, then I have to let it go and move on!
One of my wonderful colleagues, Cheri Dobbs, told me to give myself permission for things not to be perfect. Next year will be a year of growth. The library program will not be exactly like what we want it to be. That is OK! As long as we stay true to our goals and support students the best we can, then the rest will come together eventually.
    40. What changes are happening to the author this year?
41 What will the author get from someone who has an outside perspective?
    42. Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
To deal with change, we should work on the things that we can change and try our best to make the things we have no control over under control.
    43. Besides the opinions mentioned in the passage, what are your thoughts on change? (In about 40 words)
40. The author is working with a new teaching partner and two new grade levels.
    41. The author will reflect on why he/she does certain things and will make the program better moving forward.
    42. To deal with changes, we should work on the things that we can change and try our best to make the things we have no control over under control. Because there is no need to try our best to make the things that we have no control over and we’d better to do something within our control.
    43. One possible version: Change is unavoidable. Accepting change is necessary and vital because only in this way can we make full use of change. Having a reasoning attitude towards change is also helpful. In that case, you can analyze it objectively and cope with it wisely.
根据第一段“Additionally, due to some restructuring, I am working with a new teaching partner and two new grade levels.”(此外,由于一些重组,我正在与一个新的教学伙伴一起工作,并且教两个新的年级。) The author is working with a new teaching partner and two new grade levels.
根据第二段“It will allow me to reflect on why we do certain things and will make the program better moving forward.”(这将使我能够思考我们为什么要做某些事情,并将使该计划更好地向前推进。) The author will reflect on why he/she does certain things and will make the program better moving forward.
根据倒数第二段“This is about recognizing the things that I can change and making those work rather than worrying about things that I have no control over.”(这是关于认识到我可以改变的事情并使其发挥作用,而不是担心我无法控制的事情。)可知,我们不应该去担心我们无法掌控的的事,故“try our best to make the things we have no control over under control”(尽最大努力使我们无法控制的事情得到控制。) To deal with changes, we should work on the things that we can change and try our best to make the things we have no control over under control. Because there is no need to try our best to make the things that we have no control over and we’d better to do something within our control.
One possible version:Change is unavoidable. Accepting change is necessary and vital because only in this way can we make full use of change. Having a reasoning attitude towards change is also helpful. In that case, you can analyze it objectively and cope with it wisely.

    Li Hua
Dear Jim,
I’d like to express my gratitude for caring about me. Sports play an important part in our daily life. As for me, I’ve had different sports experiences, which contribute to what I am today.
My passion for basketball was from James Harden. It was his graceful moves and jumps that motivated me into basketball. I miss the days when I played basketball with my teammates. Trainings and matches shape me to be more persistent and wiser. Another sport is swimming, which helps me stay healthy and in shape. I’ve been swimming for years. Every time I finish swimming, I feel refreshed and energetic.
All in all, my experiences with sports have aroused my potential and greatly impacted my life in many ways. I hope you can also keep fit and energetic.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
