Waving her 5-year-old daughter goodbye, Wang Yaping was about to set off. She, together with Zhai Zhigang and Ye Guangfu, went into space aboard the Shenzhou XIII    1    Oct 16th.

The 41-year-old Wang became the first female astronaut to enter Tiangong space station. During their six-month stay, Wang, alongside Zhai and Ye, will do experiments and set up robotic arms.    2    Wang will also do the first spacewalk by a Chinese woman, reported Xinhua.

Wang’s space dream started in 2003, when China sent its first astronaut Yang Liwei into space. She told    3   , “China now has a male astronaut. When will there be    4    female one?” At that time, Wang was a pilot in the Chinese army.

That strong spirit    9    led to realizing her dream in 2013. She    10    to be a member of the Shenzhou X mission.

Wang said that as astronauts, women had their own advantages. “Women tend to be more patient and 11 better deal with loneliness. Women’s hearts are also    12    to adapt to the weightless environment, making them more suitable for long-term missions.”

Retired NASA astronaut Catherine Coleman    13    a greeting to Wang before the Shenzhou XIII trip. Coleman said, “When you look out of the window and see the stars and the Earth,    14    women will look out of that window with you. 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的ABCD项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

    (A)

This is an ordinary day for Yang Jinlong.

At 9 a. m., he drives to primary schools and middle schools in Xian, Shanxi Province, to teach students about Shanxi kuaiban. It is a traditional Chinese form of storytelling to the rhythm of bamboo clappers (响板), which the art form is named after. Sometimes, he helps students prepare for competitions. Usually, his classes run until about 6 p.m., and then he returns home to prepare classes for the next day.

On June 10, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced 325 national intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) items in Beijing, increasing the list to 1,557 items. Shanxi kuaiban, which appeared during the late Qing Dynasty, has been included. It has been introduced to local schools as part of their art education.

Yang has been teaching young people the art form since 2003 after graduating from the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts in Beijing. He studied quyi there. Quyi is a general term for Chinese folk art forms, including storytelling, crosstalk and clapper talk.

“Art education is important for students in China. Just as many students learn to play western musical instruments like the piano and violin, there are many people learning traditional Chinese folk arts, including Shanxi kuaiban, which I’ll work for my whole life,” he said.

Kuaiban is popular in northern China, including Beijing and Tianjin. According to Yang, Shanxi kuaiban was influenced by the art of different areas. The art form can be played by a group of players or only one. With one or two pairs of kuaiban of different sizes in hand, the players speak in the local dialect (方言) while telling stories, which are usually about heroes. The player tells stories while playing kuaiban, and its easy for the watchers to remember the stories since all the lines have rhymes.

Thanks to artists like Yang, this traditional Chinese form of storytelling is passed on and stays alive in our country.

    26. What does Yang usually do during school time according to paragraph 2?

    A. He prepares lessons for teachers.

    B. He goes to schools and gives lessons.

    C. He sends the bamboo clappers to students.

    D. He has a good time on Kuaiban by himself.

    27. What is probably Yang Jinlong’s job according to the passage?

    A. An officer.  B. A teacher.  C. A singer.  D. An actor.

    28. The main idea of paragraph 6 is ______.

    A. how kuaiban is played.  B. where kuaiban is played.

    C. why kuaiban was invented.  D. when kuaiban was invented.

    29. According to the passage, if you want to be an artist like Yang, you should ______.

    A. help primary students learn art

    B. work with effort and stick with the art

    C. communicate with other artists patiently

    D. be active to play western musical instruments

    (B)

What does it mean to be green? Green is more than just a color. It also means taking special steps to protect the environment. Buying a green product is a small step everyone can take. Deciding whether a product is green, however, isn’t always easy. We need to consider the whole life cycle of the product, even after it’s of no use. Here is what we may keep in mind.

The materials of a product are usually our first focus. What is it made of? Are there any harmful chemicals in it? Green products are made of more natural materials which are free from harmful chemicals, so they can be good for our physical health.

Packaging is important. How is a product packaged? Is it over packaged? We’d better choose glass, metal and paper packaging, as these can be reused or more easily recycled. We can also look for less packaging or even choose bagged products whenever possible.

Location matters. Where was a product produced? Where are we buying it? Think about how much energy was used to get it to us. Try to choose local products. When it comes to food, it is a good idea to order directly from local farmers, shop at markets and buy fruits in season. Buying from stores near our houses is also a good choice, because we can go there without driving a car.

Look into what the company tells us about their products. It’s easy to say that a product is “green” or “all natural”, but the words may be too good to be true. So we should pay attention to the information about a product carefully. After all, companies try to make us believe that their products are environmentally responsible.

The greenest thing is certainly the one we don’t buy. Things like food and clothing are necessary for life. But many others are not. Better than buying is choosing to leave an unnecessary product in the store. It sends a message to the producer, keeps money in our pockets, reduces waste and keeps the planet healthy.

    30. When we go shopping in the supermarket, we’d better buy some green packaging products, such as ______.

a glass of honey  a plastic bag of chips  an over-packaged gift

a paper box of chocolate   fruit without packaging

    A. ①②③ B. ①④⑤ C. ③④⑤ D. ①②⑤

    31. What can we learn from the passage?

    A. We should only buy products near our houses.

    B. We should know all the information about a product.

    C. We should have fewer unnecessary products in our life.

    D. We should pay little attention to the materials of a product.

    32. What is the purpose of this passage?

    A. To teach us how to tell different materials.

    B. To tell us how to save money for ourselves.

    C. To tell us all the companies should be green.

    D. To give advice on how to be a green consumer.

    (C)

The traditional Chinese Longtaitou Festival, or Dragon-Head-Raising Festival, falls on the second day of the second lunar month every year, and recognizes the start of spring and farming. This year, it falls on February 21st.

Ancient people believed that after this day, rainfall increases because the rain brings Dragon King has awakened from his winter sleep.

A well-known phrase goes, “Er yue er, long tai tou,” meaning, “On the second day of the second month, the dragon lifts his head.”

The festival celebrates ancient farming Chinese culture, and while some of the traditional ways to celebrate it are no longer practised, others persist.

The most well-known tradition is getting a haircut. Some believe that going to the barber on this day help them stay away from bad luck, while others believe getting a haircut during the first month of the lunar calendar brings bad luck.

Another saying warns that cutting your hair in the first month will cause your uncle to die. Although today few pay attention to it, it was once a tradition to line up outside barber shops on the day of Longtaitou, having avoided haircuts for the preceding month.

The food traditions of Longtaitou Festival is another ancient celebration still practised today.

People eat toufu balls in East China’s Fujian Province during the festival, which means the first fortune of the year, and often make tofu and vegetable balls to pray for family and business. Fried beans are the traditional festival fare for people in parts of Shandong Province.

Eating chengyao cakes, which are made with sticky rice, is a tradition in Suzhou, Zhejiang Province during the festival, following the saying, “If you eat chengyao cakes on Longtaitou, your waist won’t hurt all year.”

Meanwhile, other food, like dumplings, spring rolls and popcorn, are named after dragon body parts to mark the day. Noodles are dragon’s beard (long xu), dumplings are dragon’s ears (long er), spring rolls are dragon’s scales (long lin), and popcorn dragon seeds (long zi).

    33. Why do Chinese people celebrate Longtaitou Festival?

    A. Because the dragon lifts his head on this day.

    B. Because it recognizes the start of spring and farming.

    C. Because it falls on the second day of the second month.

    D. Because it can help everyone stay away from bad luck.

    34. The underlined word “persist” in paragraph 4 means ______.

    A. stop  B. forget  C. continue  D. improve

    35. Which of the following is TRUE?

    A. Longtaitou Festival usually falls on February 21th.

    B. Having a haircut during the Festival is a well-known tradition.

    D. If you eat chengyao cakes on Longtaitou, your body won’t get hurt.

    36. The passage is probably from ______.

    A. a news report   B. a science report

    C. a comic strip   D. an online encyclopedia

    (D)

    Dear Daniel,

Recently, I found a dog that followed me. I was very excited and brought the dog home, but my mom was very angry. She told me to let the dog go. I left it outside in the darkness and I feel very sad now.

    Animal lover

    Dear Animal Lover,

I think many kids and adults have been in your situation. I admire your big heart! I think you and I can agree that all animals deserve love, kindness and respect from humans.

I don’t think your mother should have been angry. However, I agree with her. It’s not easy bringing an animal into your home, and this one was a surprise. An animal needs to learn how to behave. It costs money to feed and care for. It also needs lots of your time and attention. Will you wake up early to take the dog outside? Or will your mother?

Your mother may also know that animals can be dangerous. Last fall, I was walking with my friend when she saw a kitten on the street. “Leave it alone,” I said. However, she insisted on taking it home and said, “Cats are little killing machines. It will be fine.” That very same night, the kitten bit her finger - seriously! The bite was so deep that she had to visit a hospital. There, they gave her rabies (狂犬病) tests. She didn’t come home for three days!

Homeless animals can survive just fine on their own. They might need love, but they don’t all need us to take them into our homes. That kitten now lives with my friend and her husband in a tiny apartment. It used to live with its brothers and sisters, free to roam the world.

We can be kind and respectful by leaving animals to the lives they know how to live. If you see that dog again, give it a snack and say, “______”

    Sincerely,

    Daniel

    37. How did the writer feel after he sent the dog away in the first letter?

    A. Angry.  B. Cheerful.  C. Proud.  D. Upset.

    38. What problem may an animal cause to a family?

    A. Family members will always be angry.

    B. Everyone has to walk the dog every morning.

    C. All the family members should get rabies tests.

    D. Keeping an animal requires lots of time and money.

    39. What does the underlined word “it” refer to?

    A. The dog. B. The kitten.  C. The love.  D. The apartment.

    40. In the last paragraph, the animal lovers probably will say “______”

    A. See you tomorrow!   B. Come with me, little one!

    C. Go away now!   D. Why not take it home?
