    Text 1
M: Amy, do you feel like a cold drink?
W: I’d like a tomato juice. And can I have a piece of that cake?
M: OK. I’ll have some too, with an apple juice. You find us a table and I’ll queue up to buy it.
    Text 2
W: Jack has some of the qualities, but he’s not exactly what we need.
    M: What do you mean?
W: For this project we need someone who is just as tough, but a lot more patient.
    Text 3
W: Can you drive at top speed, please? I have a flight to catch at 2:30.
M: I’m afraid traffic at this time of the day is heavy. You should take the subway.
W: Well, can you drop me off at the nearest station, then?
    M: Sure.
    Text 4
M: Do you want to come to the movies with Jeff and me, Donna? We’re going to see Spider-Man: Homecoming.
W: Uh, I don’t really want to see that movie. Besides, I’m too tired to go anywhere. Say hi to Jeff, though.
    Text 5
M: Miss, just calm down. Tell me who you’re here to see.
W: I have a job interview with Mr. Beringer, but my car broke down on the way, and I was supposed to be here 15 minutes ago!
    Text 6
W: Star Suites. Vera Simpson speaking.
M: This is Alan Johnson. ⑥I’d like to book two rooms for three nights.
W: I’m happy to help. ⑦We have a special on our business suites from December 23rd to 25th.
M: ⑦That sounds attractive, but we need to check in about a week before that. ⑥And we only need a couple of simple double rooms.
W: OK. We’ve got plenty of those. When will you arrive?
M: ⑦We’ll be arriving late on the 16th, but our checkout will be early on the morning of the 19th.
W: Very well, Mr. Johnson. We’re open twenty-four hours a day, so you’re welcome to check in at any time.
    Text 7
W: We’re planning a trip for right after we graduate, and I’m asking everybody where they would like to go most. Any thoughts?
M: I’ve always wanted to go somewhere hot like Hawaii. I’d love to just lie on the beach, have a drink… just relax, although I suppose that staying in one place might get boring after a while. ⑧How about a trip through Europe?
W: You’re not the first person to say that. ⑧To be honest, I kind of agree with you. If we were to go to the Bahamas, say, I wouldn’t complain. ⑧But Europe sounds more attractive.
M: Well, as it happens, I spoke with a bunch of our friends last night. All of them began by saying the same thing we did about beaches and stuff. In the end, everyone agreed that they’d rather have a more diverse experience.
W: Well, I think we have our destination. Now we just need to get our plane tickets.
M: Hold your horses ⑨We need to calculate the cost first.
    Text 8
M: ⑩⑫So, are you enjoying the performance so far?
W: Well, you must admit the clothes are beautiful and the set is wonderful, ⑩but the acting is a bit boring. What do you think?
M: I think you’re a bit particular. The actor in the lead role is very professional. I suppose the music could be a bit better, though.
W: Do you know anyone in the play?
M: ⑪Actually, the woman playing Ophelia is an old classmate of mine.
W: Really? Is that why you wanted to come to the play?
M: That’s only a part of it. I absolutely admire this director. Every play he works on turns out great. I’ve seen quite a few other plays that he directed. They are really wonderful. By the way, after the play, there is a big party for the actors and their friends. My friend has invited us. Do you want to go?
W: Sure. ⑫Oh, look! They are weakening the lights. I think we should go back to our seats for the second half of the play.
    M: You are right.
W: Do you think I should go to college, Mike?
M: Of course, Brenda! Why not?
W: ⑬Well, my friend Landon started his own computer software business right out of high school. He didn’t go to college, and he made a million dollars!
M: OK, congratulations to him. But that success story is not common. ⑮People should receive as much education as they could.
W: But college is so expensive nowadays. ⑭When my brother Jason went to school, his fees were maybe twenty thousand dollars a year. His same school is charging twice that amount now!
M: That’s nothing! New York University costs much more!
W: See!? That’s what I mean! Is it really worth the money?
M: ⑮Listen, I agree that education is too expensive, but college life is such a beautiful part of one’s life. Besides, students can borrow money from the bank.
W: But if everyone suddenly can’t pay back the money, then we’re all influenced!
W: Right in front of the Minneapolis Central Library, a row of green bikes sits parked in a special stand. Each bike is designed with the logo “Nice Ride”—the name of the city’s bike-share program.
Nice Ride bikes are a lot like the library books that people come here to borrow. ⑰To rent a bike, you simply use your membership card at a Nice Ride bike station. Members can rent one of 1,200 bikes from 138 stations throughout Minnesota’s (明尼苏达州) largest city. People use the Nice Ride bikes to go to work, to go out on business, or just to enjoy the city’s many bike paths.
The rise of bike-share programs like Nice Ride is encouraging more people than ever to choose biking over driving. Increasing gas prices and concerns about the environment have also gotten people to travel by bike. Bike-share systems are found around the world in cities like London, Paris, Barcelona, and Melbourne, Australia. ⑱The largest program with 70,000 bikes is in Wuhan, China. ⑲To make roads friendlier to non-motorists, the US Department of Transportation has invested more than a billion dollars in cycling in recent years. The money went toward building thousands of miles of on-street bike lanes (道路内自行车车道) called greenways.

    What Is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a large language model chatbot developed by OpenAI based on GPT=3. 5 (Click to learn more). It has a remarkable ability to interact in a conversational dialogue form and provide responses that can appear surprisingly human. Large language models perform the task of predicting the next word in a series of words.
    Is ChatGPT Free To Use?
The use of ChatGPT is currently free during the “research preview” time. The chatbot is currently open for users to try out and provide feedback on the responses so that the AI can become better at answering questions and to learn from its mistakes. However, ChatGPT is envisioned as a tool that the public will eventually have to pay to use.
    How Can ChatGPT Be Used?
ChatGPT can write code, poems, songs, and even short stories in the style of a specific author. The expertise in following directions elevates ChatGPT from an information source to a tool that can be asked to accomplish a task. This makes it useful for writing an essay on virtually any topic. ChatGPT can function as a tool for generating outlines for articles or even entire novels. It will provide a response for virtually any task that can be answered with written text.
    Limitations
●ChatGPT sometimes writes plausible-sounding but incorrect or nonsensical answers. Fixing this issue is challenging, as: (1) during RL training, there’s currently no source of truth; (2) training the model to be more cautious causes it to decline questions that it can answer correctly; and (3) supervised training misleads the model because the ideal answer depends on what the model knows, rather than what the human demonstrator knows.
●ChatGPT is sensitive to tweaks (微调) to the input phrasing or attempting the same prompt multiple times. For example, given one phrasing of a question, the model can claim to not know the answer, but given a slight rephrase (重新措辞), it can answer correctly.
●While we’ve made efforts to make the model refuse inappropriate requests, it will sometimes respond to harmful instructions or exhibit biased behavior. We’re using the Moderation API to warn or block certain types of unsafe content, but we expect it to have some false negatives and positives for now. We’re eager to collect user feedback to aid our ongoing work to improve this system.
    21. Which of the following tasks can NOT be performed by ChatGPT?
    A. Writing a poem. B. Drawing a painting.
    C. Writing a song. D. Creating a short story in O. Henry’s style.
    22. What can we know about ChatGPT?
    A. It only gives true answers.
    B. It is free of charge at the moment.
    C. Its limitations are easy to overcome.
    D. It can respond to harmful questions sometimes.
    23. Where is the text probably taken from?
    A. A website. B. A brochure. C. A leaflet. D. A novel.
B 22. B 23. A

    B
A Malawian woman, Gloria Majiga-Kamoto, was recently awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize for Africa — the world’s leading award for grassroots environmental activists.
Gloria Majiga-Kamoto was then working for a local environmental organization with a program that gave goats to rural farmers, who would use the goat waste to produce low-cost, high-quality organic fertilizer (肥料). The problem? The thin plastic bags covering the Malawian countryside. “We have this very common street food, chiwaya, which is salty and served in little blue plastics,” Majiga-Kamoto says. “Goats eat the plastic for salty taste and they die because it blocks the ingestion (摄食) system.” For her, this was the moment when it all changed. All of a sudden, she started noticing how plastics were everywhere in the Malawian environment and food system-affecting people’s living and health.
“I remember back in the day when we’d go to the market and buy things like fish, you’d get it in newspapers,” the 30-year-old says. But thin plastics took off in the last decade or so as new producers sprung up in Malawi, selling products like thin plastic bags at cheap prices. In fact, the Malawian government decided to ban the importation, production and distribution of single-use plastic in 2015. But before the ban could go into full effect, Malawi’s plastics-producing industry appealed to the country’s High Court against the ban, causing it to be suspended.
When Majiga-Kamoto and her fellow environmentalists heard about this, they were annoyed. She organized marches and rejected the plastic industry’s argument that the ban would hurt Malawi’s economy — and even debated with an industry spokesman on TV. Finally in 2019, Malawi’s High Court ruled in favor of the ban. The following year, the government began closing down illegal plastic producers.
Michael Sutton, executive director of the Goldman Environmental Foundation, said, “Majiga-Kamoto’s fight with the plastic industry is a perfect example of the spirit of the prize.”
    24. What made Majiga-Kamoto realize the problem?
    A. Her experience with plastic-eating goats.
    B. Her discovery of goat waste everywhere.
    C. Her doubt about the safety of street food.
    D. Her care for the farmers living in poverty.
    25. What can we learn about Malawi?
    A. It used to be extremely rich in fish.
    B. It advocated using thin plastic bags.
    C. It failed to ban single-use plastic at first.
    D. It relied heavily on the plastic industry.
    26. What was the purpose of Majiga-Kamoto’s acts in Paragraph 4?
    A. To put the ban into effect.
    B. To support the government.
    C. To back the plastic industry up.
    D. To promote Malawi’s economy.
    27. Which of the following best describes Majiga-Kamoto?
    A. Humble. B. Generous. C. Patient. D. Committed.
A 25. C 26. A 27. D
根据文章第二段内容“‘Goats eat the plastic for salty taste and they die because it blocks the ingestion system.’ For her, this was the moment when it all changed. All of a sudden, she started noticing how plastics were everywhere in the Malawian environment and food system-affecting people’s living and health.(“山羊吃塑料是为了吃咸味,因为塑料堵塞了消化系统而死亡。”对她来说,这一刻一切都变了。突然间,她开始注意到塑料在马拉维的环境和食品系统中无处不在,影响着人们的生活和健康)”可知,在了解到山羊因食用塑料而死亡的这一时刻,她意识到了马拉维的环境和食品中的塑料问题。故选A项。
根据文章第三段内容“In fact, the Malawian government decided to ban the importation, production and distribution of single-use plastic in 2015. But before the ban could go into full effect, Malawi’s plastics-producing industry appealed to the country’s High Court against the ban, causing it to be suspended.(事实上,马拉维政府在2015年就决定禁止进口、生产和分销一次性塑料。但在禁令全面生效之前,马拉维的塑料生产行业向该国高等法院上诉反对禁令,导致禁令被暂停)”以及第四段内容“Finally in 2019, Malawi’s High Court ruled in favor of the ban. The following year, the government began closing down illegal plastic producers.(最终在2019年,马拉维高等法院裁定支持该禁令。第二年,政府开始关闭非法塑料生产商)”可知,马拉维政府曾在2015年决定颁布有关一次性塑料的禁令,但遭到了反对而被暂停,后在2020最终实现了相关禁令的推行。由此可知,它最初未能禁止一次性塑料。故选C项。
26.推理判断题。根据文章第四段内容“When Majiga-Kamoto and her fellow environmentalists heard about this, they were annoyed. She organized marches and rejected the plastic industry’s argument that the ban would hurt Malawi’s economy — and even debated with an industry spokesman on TV. Finally in 2019, Malawi’s High Court ruled in favor of the ban.(当Majiga Kamoto和她的环保主义伙伴们听到这件事时,他们很恼火。她组织了游行,拒绝了塑料行业有关禁令会损害马拉维经济的说法,甚至在电视上与行业发言人进行了辩论。最终,2019年,马拉维高等法院裁定该禁令获得了支持)”可知,Majiga Kamoto和她的环保主义伙伴们的行为最终促进了马拉维高等法院对该禁令的支持。由此推知,Majiga行为的目的是为了促进该禁令的执行。故选A项。
根据文章第四段内容“When Majiga-Kamoto and her fellow environmentalists heard about this, they were annoyed. She organized marches and rejected the plastic industry’s argument that the ban would hurt Malawi’s economy—and even debated with an industry spokesman on TV. (当Majiga Kamoto和她的环保主义伙伴们听到这件事时,他们很恼火。她组织了游行,拒绝了塑料行业有关禁令会损害马拉维经济的说法,甚至在电视上与行业发言人进行了辩论。)”可知,Majiga为了“塑料禁令”的颁布和推行作出了非常多的努力。由此推知,她是一个尽心尽力的人。故选D项。

According to Jim Coan, a psychologist from the University of Virginia, holding hands with someone you trust can have a positive effect on your health. Why? Researchers have shown in their studies that the simple act of touch can reduce stress and even lower heart rate.
In a study, Jim and his colleagues brought couples into the lab, and then put one of them in an fMRI machine to scan the activity in their brains. While scanning them, the participants looked at a screen, and on a series of tests, they either saw a green circle or a red “X”. A green circle meant that the test would end shortly and nothing else would happen. A red “X” meant that in a few seconds, there was a chance that they would receive a mild electric shock on their leg. The shock wasn’t painful, but it wasn’t exactly comfortable either.
During some of these tests, participants were in the fMRI scanner alone; during others, a researcher came in and held their hand; and on a final set of tests, their romantic partner came in and held their hand. Jim and colleagues found that when participants thought they might be getting a shock, they had a lower stress response in their brains when holding their romantic partner’s hand than in the other two conditions. And the happier the couples said they were in their relationships, the more the romantic partner’s hand lessened (减弱) the brain’s response to the shock. This study suggests that when we’re stressed, holding a loved one’s hand can reduce that stress.
The research also suggests that touch has immediate and positive effects on babies. Skin-to-skin contact can reduce crying, stress, and improve sleep. These effects can be long-lasting: adults, held a lot when they were babies, are the most likely to be healthy and well-adjusted — in fact, the more they were carried in babyhood, the better they adjust in adulthood.
    28. How would a participant probably feel when seeing a red “X”?
    A. Nervous. B. Excited. C. Hopeful. D. Painful.
    29. Why did researchers do sets of tests in the study?
    A. To make sure the study results are correct.
    B. To compare brain activities in different cases.
    C. To test the relationships between couples.
    D. To check the functions of the fMRI scanner.
    30. According to the last paragraph, what may the writer agree with?
    A. Babies should be held and carried as much as possible.
    B. Babies’ problems can be solved mainly by touching.
    C. The effects that touching has on babies don’t last long.
    D. Adults who were not held as babies can’t adjust to society.

根据第二段最后两句“A red ‘X’ meant that in a few seconds, there was a chance that they would receive a mild electric shock on their leg. The shock wasn’t painful, but it wasn’t exactly comfortable either.”(红“X”表示几秒钟后,他们的腿可能会受到轻微电击。 及第三段第二句“Jim and colleagues found that when participants thought they might be getting a shock, they had a lower stress response in their brains when holding their romantic partner’s hand than in the other two conditions.”(吉姆及其同事发现,当参与者认为他们可能会受到电击时,与其他两种情况相比,他们握着爱人的手时,大脑的压力反应更低。) 故选A项。
根据第三段第二句“Jim and colleagues found that when participants thought they might be getting a shock, they had a lower stress response in their brains when holding their romantic partner’s hand than in the other two conditions.”(吉姆及其同事发现,当参与者认为他们可能会受到电击时,与其他两种情况相比,他们握着爱人的手时,大脑的压力反应更低。)
根据最后一段的最后一句“These effects can be long-lasting: adults, held a lot when they were babies, are the most likely to be healthy and well-adjusted — in fact, the more they were carried in babyhood, the better they adjust in adulthood.”(这些影响是长期的:婴儿时期被抱过的成年人可能会更加健康,调节能力会更好,而且,婴儿时期被抱得越多,成年时期的调节能力就越好。) 故选A项。

Apple is rolling out audiobooks narrated by artificial intelligence, reports the Guardian’s Leyland Cecco. The company recently produced a series of fiction and romance audiobooks featuring “digital narration” on its Apple Books platform, which allows readers to browse and buy e-books and audiobooks.
The two current A.I. narrators are called Madison, a soprano (女高音), and Jackson, a baritone (男中音). In the future, the company plans to also offer A.I.-narrated nonfiction and self-development audiobooks and will be rolling out two additional digital voices named Helena and Mitchell.
According to the Guardian, Apple approached independent publishers in recent months and asked them to participate in its digital narration initiative. The company said that it would cover the costs of production and give authors royalties(版税) from the sales. In return, publishers were required to sign non-disclosure agreements. Apple says it aims to give authority to independent authors and small publishers, who may not be able to afford or approach the complex production process required to transform their text into audio. The company wants to make the creation of audiobooks “more accessible to all.”
“Digitally narrated titles are a valuable complement to professionally narrated audiobooks, and will help bring audio to as many books and as many people as possible,” the company writes on its website. “Apple Books remains committed to celebrating and showcasing the magic of human narration and will continue to grow the human-narrated audiobook catalog.”
But some people in the publishing industry are skeptical about replacing human narrators—often professional voice actors or the authors themselves—with A.I. They say that audiobooks are a form of art, and that human narrators help enhance the experience. “Companies see the audiobooks market and that there’s money to be made,” says Canadian literary agent Carly Watters to the Guardian. “They want to make content. But that’s all it is. It’s not what customers want to listen to. There’s so much value in the narration and the storytelling.”
    32. Which of the following doesn’t belong to the same category?
    A. Madison. B. Jackson. C. Helena. D. Leyland.
    33. What is the obvious characteristic of Apple’s latest audio book series?
    A. They focus on fiction and romance.
    B. They allow readers to buy online.
    C. They are narrated with digital voice.
    D. They’re the first to offer A.I. narration.
    34. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
    A. The challenges of giving A.I. narration.
    B. Apple’s efforts to promote A.I. narration.
    C. The people who benefit from audiobooks.
    D. The process of changing texts into audio.
    35. What can we infer from paragraph 5?
    A. A.I. narrators will replace human narrators soon.
    B. A.I. narrators perform better than human narrators.
    C. The commercial value of audiobooks is uncertain.
    D. All the people aren’t in favor of digital narration.
    【答案】32.D 33.C 34.B 35.D

Some will be happy to help in practical ways, such as by training with you or taking on tasks you normally handle in order to free up your time.
38 Any time you fail to make a change, consider it a step toward your goal. Why? Because each sincere attempt represents a lesson learned. When you hit a snag (碰钉子), take a moment to think about what did and didn’t work. Maybe you took on too big a challenge? 39

It’s enough. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

故what改为how。
    9.考查定语从句。句意:学生们认为这个活动是有意义的,它让他们意识到森林火灾可以是致命的。此处为非限制性定语从句修饰先行词activity,且从句中缺少主语,故用关系代词which。故it改为which。
    10.考查代词。句意:即便如此,他们还是可以做一些事情来预防和控制它们。anything用于否定句和疑问句中,something用于肯定句。故anything改为something。
    第二节 书面表达(满分25分)
    假定你是某国际学校体育俱乐部的负责人,你们俱乐部最近发起了“每天最炼半小时”活动。请你结合以下要点写封倡议书,号召全校同学动起来。
    1.活动目的;
    2.具体做法;
    3.发出倡议。
    注意:
    1. 词数100左右;
    2. 可以适当增加细节,以使行文连贯。
    One possible version:
Aimed to encourage us senior three students to get into shape and enrich our school life, the sports club in our school has launched an activity themed "Exercise for 30 minutes every day".
Whether it is gentle or hard, every exercise can be highly beneficial to you. You can go jogging or running in the fresh morning air after getting up. It's also workable to cycle or swim. In addition, we recommend taking full advantage of break time at school to play jump rope, hula hoop and so on.
Only with good health can we enjoy a happy life and good academic performance. So just choose one or two sports you like to keep going.
