This exam is comparable to other English language proficiency tests like TOEFL and IELTS. It assesses one’ s abilities to speak, listen, write, and read English; however, the significant distinction is that you do not have to go to a test center for DET. Students can take the test from the comfort of their own homes. All they need is a computer and access to the Internet.

Xing Eryang, who founded the Douban topic in 2021, is a 31-year-old female resident in Beijing and is amazed to find her “slash (斜杠) life” philosophy echoed by so many of her peers.
After graduating in 2014, Xing landed her job at a public institution. While staying diligent about her daytime work, she is developing her hobbies, including stand-up comedy, sharing video blogs and podcasting (播客), into secondary careers during her downtime
“I prefer the word ‘slash’ because a diverse lifestyle is like using a knife to cut our life into different parts. One part works hard during the daytime, while the other part can still chase after truth, goodness and inner beauty during our personal time,” she explains.
A 26-vear-old woman nicknamed Weiheng, from Guangzhou, and Tang Yuhan, a 27-year-old man in Anhui province. are both participants in the online thread, with their stories obtaining thousands of likes so far.
The two are both musicians in their spare time, even though they are thousands of miles apart and have different jobs in media and finance. Weiheng is now a lead singer in a band after work. while Tang plays the guitar in a death metal group.
Their passion for music has grown since college and they didn’t abandon their enthusiasm, even after entering the workplace. Though they both faced doubts and worries from their family and colleagues at first, they stuck to their beliefs and won the respect and understanding of others.
The two music enthusiasts make use of their nighttime to rehearse and then perform on holidays and weekends. Weiheng’s band, Flouting Soul, has released eight songs and signed a contract with a music agency, ready to launch albums and get down to a concert tour.
The “slash life” craziness shows that along with China’s economic development, our society is becoming more and more diversified, and it welcomes everyone’s self-fulfillment. Young people no longer have to rely on work and money for their sense of self-worth. They lend to practice a carpe diem (及时行乐) philosophy and create their own identities.
    24. Why did Xing call her life a “slash” one?
    A. Because her life is cut into different parts by an invisible slash.
    B. Because she preferred the word “slash” when she was young.
    C. Because she developed her hobbies into secondary careers.
    D. Because Douban requires her to choose “slash” as a topic.
    25. What does Tang Yuhan think of his slash life?
    A. Disgusting.
    B. Favourable.
    C. Funny.
    D. Frustrating.
    26. What is the purpose of the last paragraph?
    A. To provide career guidance.
    B. To analyze a cultural difference.
    C. To conclude from the phenomenon
    D. To share a unique life experience.
    27. What is the main idea of the text?
    A. Xing Eryang founded the Douban topic “slash life”.
    B. Young people prefer “slash life” to their real lives.
    C. China’s economy develops fast due to “slash life”.
    D. “Slash life” trend allows workers to chase their dreams.

The African penguin is expected to go extinct in the wild in just over a decade, given its current population decline. The main reason is a lack of food caused by disturbance to ocean conditions from global heating and competition from the commercial fishing industry. According to a study, scientists have identified a possible additional cause, one that is an entirely new threat and that further prevents the penguins from finding food: noise pollution from marine (海洋的)ships in a bay.
Since 2016, a new shipping practice has started at Algoa Bay. The bay offers ship-to-ship refueling for ships anchored offshore. Since the start of this practice, marine traffic in the bay has doubled. The number of bulk carriers (散货船) pulling into the bay has increased by ten times as much. Thus the noise levels in the area had doubled and the population of penguins has dropped sharply. High noise levels affect the ability of marine animals to find food, communicate or navigate properly.
Researchers used data from ship identification tools to estimate underwater noise from passing ships. They also attached underwater microphones-and accelerometers (感应器) to some of the penguins. Recording the noise will tell researchers what the penguins are hearing, if they’re talking while hunting, if they’re changing their movements in response to noise, and if the noise is drowning out their hunting conversations. This will allow researchers to determine whether the sound disturbance is a direct cause of the penguins’ ongoing difficulties in finding sufficient food.
The study is the first to explore he effects of ocean traffic noise pollution on seabirds and the consequences of offshore shipping activities on underwater noise levels. Experts are considering proposing various global best-practice approaches to reduce some of the impacts of noise pollution, such as policies that limit the number and size of ships allowed into a bay of this kind. “We also need more scientific monitoring of noise, before these measures are put in place and afterward, so that we have a proper understanding of what works.” a researcher said.
    28. What is caused by the noise pollution?
    A. The penguins’ lack of food.
    B. The penguins’ proper navigation.
    C. People’s communication disability.
    D. The commercial competition.
    29. Why did scientists attach microphones to penguins?
    A. Because they wanted to study the way of relieving marine traffic pressure.
    B. Because they could determine and analyze the source of ocean noise pollution
    C. Because it helped to calculate underwater noise levels caused by different ships.
    D. Because the impact of ocean on penguins’ hunting behavior could be found.
    30. How can the noise pollution be reduced?
    A. By exploring the real effects of ocean traffic.
    B. By restricting the ships to go into the bay.
    C. By banning all the offshore shipping activities.
    D. By increasing ship-to-ship refueling activities.
31.What will researchers probably do next?
    A. Evaluate the risk of the noise.
    B. Establish a monitoring system.
    C. Put the measures in place.
    D. Try to understand what happens.

Have you ever lost something in a hard-to-reach space, like behind a couch or a cupboard? Wouldn’t it be nice to just be able to squeeze in and out? New innovations in the field of robotics will soon be able to make this mice idea into a reality.
In a study published on Jan 25 in the science journal Matter, engineers from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Carnegie Mellon University in the US have developed small robots that can quickly change back and forth from liquid to solid states.
According to the website Mashable. the scientists were inspired by sea cucumbers. They are able to change the stiffness (僵硬度) of their body or reduce the potential for physical damage. The robots in the study were made from gallium (镓), a soft meta with a low melting point of 30 C. The scientists then used changes in the magnetic field to control the magnetic particles inside the gallium material to provide heat. This heat then allowed the robots to change between solid and liquid states as well as to move around.
As the website Tech Xplore pointed out, other similar materials require external heat sources such as heat guns and electrical currents to induce a change of states; but now, the robots can use a heat source inside itself to change states independently. During the robots” experimental trials. the scientists conducted a number of tests. These tests included having the robots melt into liquid and re-form to escape a prison- like cage. It can remove a foreign object from and deliver medicinal drugs to a model stomach. The robot is also able to build and repair hard-to-reach circuits. The robots’ ability to switch between states of matter allows for a number of possible uses and advancements in different fields, such as the biomedical and circuit assembly(组装) industries.
Still, in the words of senior author Carmel Majidi at Carnegie Mellon University, for now these are all just “proofs of concept” which show the abilities of these new kind of robots.
    32. Why can the robots switch between solid and liquid?
    A. Because they consist of a unique metal and magnetic particles.
    B. Because they can reduce the potential for physical damage.
    C. Because they are able to change the stiffness of their body.
    D. Because they have external heat sources any time any where.
    33. What does the underlined word “induce” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
    A. witness.
    B. remove.
    C. cause.
    D. accept.
    34. What will be the function of the robot?
    A. To help scientists inspire sea cucumbers.
    B. To put a couch into a hard-to-reach space.
    C. To get rid of foreign objects from an organ.
    D. To assist people in escaping a prison-like cage.
    35. Where is the text probably taken from?
    A. A health report
    B. A science fiction.
    C. A Chemistry textbook.
    D. A scientific magazine.

    阅读下面短文、从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
If you want to memorize something quickly and thoroughly, repetition won’t cut it. 36 Below are some universal steps to mastering the art of recalling so that you can start memorizing a ton of data in a short amount of time.
    Make preparations.
Pay close attention to which environment you choose. For most people, this means choosing an area with few distractions. Figure out what is most beneficial to your learning so that you can get started. Next, start drinking some tea. 37 .
    Record what you’re memorizing.
This is especially useful if you’re trying to memorize information from a lecture. Use a tape recorder to track all of the acquired facts being spoken and listen to it. If you’re trying to memorize a speech, record yourself reading the speech aloud and listen to yourself speaking.
    38 .
Before you start trying to recall everything from memory, write and re-write the information. Now that you have everything written down in one set of notes, separate them into sections. You can use color coding to differentiate between subjects. This will help you become more familiar with what you’re trying to memorize.
    Apply repetition to accumulated memorization.
39 . As you memorize each set of text, accumulate it by adding the new information to what you’ve just learned. This will keep everything within your short-term memory from fading. Keep doing this until you have memorized that section and you are able to recall the entire thing. Do not move on to another section until you have memorized that one completely.
Teach it to someone (or yourself ).
The most effective method for me when I was in school was to teach the information to someone else. 40 . If what you’ve learned needs to be recited literally, then do this in front of someone as well in order to get a feel for what it will be like to recite the text to the intended audience.
    Take a break.
Finally, let your mind breathe. Go for a short time without thinking about what you just learned and come back to it later on. You’ll find out what you really know, of course, and this will help you focus on the sections you might be weakest at.
    A. Recall entire sections.
    B. However, recalling something will.
    C. Write everything down and section your notes.
    D. You can lecture the knowledge to someone sitting right in front of you.
    E. For each line of text, repeat it a few times and try to recall it without looking.
    F. While doing unrelated tasks, go over the information by listening to your tape recordings.
    G. Many scientific studies have confirmed green tea as a natural fuel for improving memory.

    第一节 (满分15分)
    One possible version:
Recently, a survey, which is about students’ housework engagement, has been carried out in my class.
According to the survey, a large proportion of the students (70%) do the housework, among whom 5% work over an hour per week and 65% for less than an hour. Much to my surprise, 30% of them never share housework with their parents.
Some students think doing housework waste their time, which otherwise can be engaged in studying. As far as I’m concerned, however, it’s really necessary to raise students’ labor consciousness and involve them in housework. After all, by helping with the housework, they can develop a sense of responsibility and gain important life skills.

    第二节 (满分25分)
    One possible version:
Paragraph 1: During lunchtime, he gathered his friends and asked them to form a circle. Standing in the middle, Martin announced, “Friends, you are about to see my magic chair here. Watch closely.” Slowly, Martin tried sitting on the chair. But he missed and fell straight onto his backside. Everyone around him burst into laughter. He made another attempt to sit and fell again. This time, there comes a few catcalls. Martin did not give up. He kept trying and fell to the ground.
The laughs continued. Squeezing out a bitter smile, he tried again and did not fall this time. He finally experienced the magic.

Paragraph 2: Now he could find out who were his real friends. Looking around, Martin saw four of his friends, John, Abram, Juli, and Terry carrying him up, so he didn’t fall. At the same time, many others he had thought of as friends were doing nothing but make fun of him, enjoying each and every fall. Martin returned home and narrated the day’s story to his father. Father was happy that he could find his real friends. The next day he bought a new cycle for Martin. Martin realized it was not about the quantity of friends but the quality that mattered.

M: Hello. International Friends Club. Can I help you?
W: Oh, hello. I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I’d phone to find out a bit more.
M: Yes, certainly, well, we’re a sort of social club for people from different countries. It’s quite a
new club — we have about 50 members at the moment, but we’re growing all the time.
W: That sounds interesting. I'm British actually, and I came to Washington about three months
ago. I’m looking for ways to meet people. Er, what kinds of events do you organize?
M: Well, we have social get-togethers, and sports events, and we also have language evenings.
W: Could you tell me something about the language evenings?
M: Yes. Every day except Thursday we have a language evening. People can come and practice
their languages, you know, over a drink or something. We have different languages on different evenings. Monday — Spanish; Tuesday — Italian; Wednesday — German; and Friday — French. On Thursday, we usually have a meal in a restaurant for anyone who wants to come.
W: Well, that sounds great. I really need to practice my French.
M: OK, well, if you can just give me your name and address, I’ll send you the form and some
more information. If you join now, you can have the first month free.
    试音到此结束

    停顿 00'05''
    Text 1
M: Hi, I’ll have a salad and an iced tea to drink, please.
W: I want a sandwich with tomato soup and a cup of coffee.

    Text 2
W: My throat is burning. I’m going to have some ice cream to cool it.
M: Are you joking? You have a fever! You need something warm. I’ll get you a cup of warm water.
    W: Thank you.

    Text 3
W: I don’t believe a word you are saying. Stop trying to be nice, and just tell me the truth.
M: I’m being honest with you! Why do you always think I’m lying?
W: Because you always touch your nose when you lie!

    Text 4
M: When does the play start? My ticket says 7:30 pm.
W: Yes, but they check tickets fifteen minutes earlier, and if you’re not seated when the lights go down five minutes before it starts, they won’t let you in.

    Text 5
W: Did you take part in the graduation ceremony?
M: Yes, I took a lot of photos with my roommates and teachers.
W: Really? Can’t believe we are totally different. I just couldn’t help crying in the ceremony just now.
    Text 6
W: Hey, Jimmy, why the long face?
M: I had a quarrel with Linda. She broke up my favorite cup, the blue one that my classmate sent to me for my birthday.
W: Oh, I’m sorry. I promise to buy you a new one. Okay?
M: Mom, I think you should have a talk with Linda. She’s always like that. Last time, she broke up my model plane.
W: Sure, I’ll talk to her later.

    听第7段材料, 回答第8至10题。
    Text 7
W: Hi, Mr. Bridges. Would you like some toast?
M: No, thanks. I’ll have a cup of coffee, and I don’t want sugar in it.
W: All right. It seems that you’re not in a good mood. What happened?
M: Well, my car won’t start. I’m already late to work. My dog ran away this morning, and I had to find him. Also, it’s raining and my hat is wet. I had a great weekend, but this morning is awful!
W: I’m going to give you your coffee for free today. You have had such a bad morning!
M: Wow, thanks! I feel a little bit better already. Are you sure you can give me free coffee?
W: Yes. We have extra coffee. You come into this coffee shop every day! I hope your day gets better.

    听第8段材料, 回答第11至13题。
    Text 8
M: Maria, have you heard about the French wine aged in space?
W: Yes. 12 bottles of wine were launched to space in November 2019, and they spent 14 months and about 300 million kilometers in orbit.
M: That’s right. It’s reported that a single bottle of the wine is being put up for sale and it may cost up to $1 million. The price is well beyond our range.
W: I agree. I wonder if it tastes sweet or bitter. It’s said that top wine experts will be invited to compare the space-aged wine with the one that stayed on Earth.
M: I guess it must be tasty. Actually, lots of things have been tested in space. For example, a Japanese company once sent whisky to the space station in 2015, and America launched barley seeds to space in 2017, aiming to make the first “Microgravity Beer”.

    听第9段材料, 回答第14至17题。
    Text 9
M: I heard your job is sending you to China. Why is that?
W: Primarily because I’m going to organize a private art sale there.
M: I didn’t know there was a large demand for art in China.
W: There certainly is. China’s art market is developing rapidly. The demand for art is close to the US.
M: Really? I had no idea there was a market for Western artists in China.
W: Well, Chinese art buyers are typically interested in modern Western art. Western painters are among the best-selling artists in the world. The sales income for last year alone was in the billions.
M: Who are these Western artists?
W: Gheorghe Virtosu and JR are two of the most popular ones.
M: Can you tell me more about them?
    W: Of course. Gheorghe ...

    听第10段材料,回答第18至20题。
    Text 10
M: Hello, everyone. Welcome to What’s Trending Today. I’m Dan. Today we’re going to have a look at Super Bowl 2022. The Los Angeles Rams football team defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in the 56th Super Bowl on Sunday. I’m sure many people sat in front of the TV from 6:30 p.m. last Sunday to watch the 3-hour game. It’s the Ram’s second Super Bowl win. The Rams led by 13-10 in the first half, but unluckily Rams’ receiver Odell Bechkahm Jr. got his knee twisted while trying to catch a ball. In the second half, the Bengals attacked more and made the score 13-20. However, in the final two minutes of the game, the Rams came back to win 23-20. And Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp was named the Most Valuable Player after catching two touchdown passes. Besides the game itself, the halftime show also drew a lot of attention from the audience, especially the song “California Love” performed by Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre. And that’s all for today’s program. See you next time.

    第二节到此结束。现在你有两分钟的时间将试卷上的答案转涂到客观题答题卡上。
