做题时注意在选项中查找表示结果、结论、总结等的信号词如therefore, as a result, thus, hence, in short, to sum up, to conclude, in a word等词语。

(2023·江苏南京·高一南京市第九中学校考期中)Kids are begging parents for cell phones at younger and younger ages, leaving families with tough choices to make. It might take some time to teach kids how to use phones as tools, not toys. Here are a few ways to get the message across.
Tell them not to use phones at school. Phones can be a distraction (干扰) from learning when used in the classroom. ____1____In fact, 43% of teens admit that they often or sometimes use their phones as a way to avoid face-to-face communication with others.
Encourage them to contact long-distance relatives. ____2____ They’re also for keeping in touch with people who you may not get to talk to as often. If you have families who live in another city or state, ask your kids to strike up a conversation.
Lead by example. Setting an example is not only about how you use your phone, but also about how much you use it. When you feel bored and expect to glance over social media, fight it by taking a short walk. ____3____
Advise them not to use phones at the dinner table. For many families, the only time they truly get together is breaking bread at tbe end of a long day. ____4____ Asking your children to leave their phones far from the dinner table is a great way to solve the problem.
____5____ Sometimes, kids need a little push in order to make better choices about their phones. If they’re struggling with healthy habits, put some real-world events on the calendar. Good options include going to an amusement park, working together on a craft project or signing your kids up for sports.
    A.Plan other forms of entertainment.
B.Prepare a dinner together with your children.
C.Screen time before bed reduces sleep quality.
D.They can also prevent students from connecting with one another.
E.So it is wise of parents to stress the importance of parent child time.
F.Also, instead of reading a headline, why not pull out a book to read?
G.Phones aren’t just for texting the best friend who lives two blocks away.
    【答案】1.D    2.G    3.F    4.B    5.A
1.根据空处上句“Phones can be a distraction(干扰) from learning when used in the classroom.(在教室里使用手机会分散学生的学习注意力)”可知,此处是在介绍手机对于学生的不良影响,D选项“They can also prevent students from connecting with one another.(它们还可以阻止学生之间的联系)”与上文话题一致,且选项的they指代的就是上句的Phones。故选D项。
2.根据空处下句“They’re also for keeping in touch with people who you may not get to talk to as often.(它们也可以用来和那些你可能不经常联系的人保持联系)”可知,此处是在讲手机可以用来联系别人,G选项“Phones aren’t just for texting the best friend who lives two blocks away.(手机不仅仅是用来给住在两个街区之外的最好的朋友发短信的)”与上文话题一致,且是递进关系,下句中的they指代的是G选项的Phones。故选G项。
3.根据空处上句“When you feel bored and expect to glance over social media, fight it by taking a short walk.(当你感到无聊,想要浏览社交媒体时,去散散步吧)”可知,此处是在介绍我们要少玩手机,多做别的事情来充实生活。F选项“Also, instead of reading a headline, why not pull out a book to read?(此外,与其读手机里的头条新闻,为什么不拿出一本书来读呢?)”
4.根据空处上句“For many families, the only time they truly get together is breaking bread at tbe end of a long day. (对于许多家庭来说,他们唯一真正团聚的时间是在漫长的一天结束后一起吃饭)”可知,此处是在讲和家人共进晚餐,B选项“Prepare a dinner together with your children.(和你的孩子一起准备一顿晚餐)”符合语境,选项中的dinner呼应上文breaking bread。故选B项。
5.根据文章最后一句“Good options include going to an amusement park, working together on a craft project or signing your kids up for sports.(不错的选择就包括去游乐园,一起做手工项目或让孩子参加运动)”并结合本段内容可知,本段主要是在讲督促孩子多去做些别的项目和活动,代替玩手机。A选项“Plan other forms of entertainment.(计划其他形式的娱乐)”作为本段小标题最合适。故选A项。

(2023·江苏南通·高一海安高级中学校考期中)Walking in the city is very different from walking in the park. A small psychology study suggests urban environments can slow your step and possibly increase your mental load. ____6____ It can case your mind and quicken your pace. The findings show that natural settings may potentially reduce cognitive(认知的)tiredness and improve reaction times straight away. ____7____
The first of the two experiments in the new study focused on people’s way of walking and cognitive load. During this trial, participants were fitted with sensors and a dozen motion control cameras were set up to watch them repeatedly walk down a l5-metre room at their natural speed. The wall opposite them showed an image of either a nature scene or a city scene. ____8____ On the whole, when walking in city settings, people reported that they felt more uncomfortable and they walked at a slower pace, indicating a higher cognitive load.
____9____ In the trial, participants were asked to distinguish between basic visual shapes on the computer while also in the presence of a natural or urban image(the same ones from the first experiment).
Measuring reaction times in both natural and urban settings, the team found results to support their idea. In urban environments, participants were slower in distinguishing between simple shapes. ____10____ Our brains take longer to process. However, more research is needed to prove that idea.
A.Nature influences us in many ways.
B.The second dug into some higher-level cognitive processes.
C.A walk through nature does the opposite, though.
D.They said they couldn’t concentrate properly after walking.
E.After each participants were asked to rate their discomfort.
F.The reason is that urban environments are more distracting.
G.The study includes two experiments with two different approaches.
文中第一句“Walking in the city is very different from walking in the park”(在城市里散步和在公园里散步很不一样)提到城里散步不同于公园散步;紧接着阐明城里散步的研究结果“A small psychology study suggests urban environments can slow your step and possibly increase your mental load.”(一项小型心理学研究表明,城市环境会放慢你的脚步,并可能增加你的精神负荷),那么接下来应是对在“自然中散步”的情况进行对比。C项:A walk through nature does the opposite. though.(而在大自然中漫步则恰恰相反)符合题意。故选C。
7.根据第二段第一句“The first of the two experiments in the new study focused on people’s way of walking and cognitive load. ”(这项新研究的两个实验中的第一个集中在人们的走路方式和认知负荷上)可知设空处需要一个概括这个实验的句子,G项:The study includes two experiments with two different approaches.(该研究包括两个实验,采用两种不同的方法)符合题意。故选G。
8.根据此段对第一个实验的描述,特别是“to watch them repeatedly walk down a 15-metre room at their natural speed”(看着他们以自然的速度反复走下15米高的房间),以及空后句中的“people reported that they felt more uncomfortable”( 人们报告说他们感觉更不舒服)可知,参与者被要求报告他们在两种环境下不舒适度的感受,E项:After each participants were asked to rate their discomfort.(在每个实验后参与者被要求评估他们的不适后)符合题意。故选E。
10.上句“the team found results to support their idea. In urban environments, participants were slower in distinguishing between simple shapes”(研究小组发现了支持他们观点的结果。 The reason is that urban environments are more distracting.(原因是城市环境更容易让人分心)分析了原因,故选F。

(2023·辽宁·高一校联考期末)Owning a pet is a fun and rewarding experience. But every animal and their needs are different, so how can you make sure that you choose the right one for yourself? Here are some top tips from national pet charity Blue Cross.
    Do your research
You may like the look of a particular pet but that doesn’t mean they’re right for you. ____11____ . So, think carefully about what you want from your pet and do some research before you take one on. Some pets may also require more vet care than others. Take French bulldogs and pugs for example, they can suffer many health issues over their lifetime, including problems with their breathing and skin conditions due to their exaggerated features. ____12____
    ____13____
For example, if you work full time and you want a dog, who would take care of them during the day? If you want a cat, will they have access to outside space while you’re out during the day? Familiarize yourself with the size and exercise requirements of different pets to make sure they’re the right choice for you.
    Do your sums
From everyday things like insurance, food and toys to unexpected vet bills, having a pet is certainly a financial commitment. ____14____. Make sure you factor in how much your new pet will cost before you choose them.
    Use a reliable breeder (饲养员)
If you do want to buy a dog or cat, ask a vet or breed club to recommend a responsible breeder. Ask the breeder for all the relative paperwork and see the pet’s parents or relatives to observe their temper, general health and welfare. ____15____ Because these may well tum out to be puppy farmers or commercial dealers who have little interest in the welfare of the pets they sell.
A.Charities can offer support and advice about individual pets
    B.Think about your lifestyle
C.Don’t throw yourself into the financial trouble
    D.Adjust your taste
E.Don’t purchase online or from dealers who offer multiple types of pets
F.We’d advise owners to really do their research before taking on one of these pets
G.Every pet has its own personality and some often have strong characters

11.空前说“You may like the look of a particular pet but that doesn’t mean they’re right for you.(你可能喜欢某只宠物的样子,但这并不意味着它们就适合你。)”,空后说“So, think carefully about what you want from your pet and do some research before you take one on. Some pets may also require more vet care than others.(所以,仔细想想你想从你的宠物身上得到什么,在你养宠物之前做一些研究。有些宠物可能比其他宠物需要更多的兽医护理。)”,因此空格处应该说每种宠物都不一样,都有自己的特点,G选项“Every pet has its own personality and some often have strong characters(每只宠物都有自己的个性,有些往往有很强的性格)”说明了宠物各有不同,所以需要在选择前研究一番,因此G选项承上启下,符合语境,故选G。
12.空前说“Take French bulldogs and pugs for example, they can suffer many health issues over their lifetime, including problems with their breathing and skin conditions due to their exaggerated features.(以法国斗牛犬和哈巴狗为例,它们在一生中会遭受许多健康问题,包括由于它们夸张的特征而导致的呼吸和皮肤问题。)”,因此养这种狗需要慎重,需要在养之前仔细研究清楚,F选项“We’d advise owners to really do their research before taking on one of these pets(我们建议主人们在养这些宠物之前好好研究一下)”说明了在养这种宠物前要研究,其中的“do their research”和本段小标题“Do your research”相一致,“these pets”指代空前的“French bulldogs and pugs”,因此F选项承接上文,符合语境,故选F。
13.空格处是本段小标题,由空后的“For example, if you work full time and you want a dog, who would take care of them during the day? If you want a cat, will they have access to outside space while you’re out during the day?(例如,如果你有全职工作,想要一只狗,谁会在白天照顾它们呢?如果你想要一只猫,当你白天在外面的时候,它们能去外面的空间吗?)”可知,本段主要讲的是要考虑好自己的生活方式,B选项“Think about your lifestyle(想想你的生活方式)”概括了本段主要内容,可作为小标题,故选B。
14.空前说“From everyday things like insurance, food and toys to unexpected vet bills, having a pet is certainly a financial commitment.(从保险、食物、玩具等日常开销到意想不到的兽医账单,养宠物当然是一项经济承诺。)”,空后说“Make sure you factor in how much your new pet will cost before you choose them.(在你选择新宠物之前,一定要考虑到它们的价格。)”
15.空前说“If you do want to buy a dog or cat, ask a vet or breed club to recommend a responsible breeder. Ask the breeder for all the relative paperwork and see the pet’s parents or relatives to observe their temper, general health and welfare.(如果你真的想买一只狗或猫,让兽医或品种俱乐部推荐一位负责任的饲养员。向饲养员索要所有相关文件,并去看宠物的父母或亲戚,观察它们的脾气、总体健康状况和福利状况。)”,空后说“Because these may well tum out to be puppy farmers or commercial dealers who have little interest in the welfare of the pets they sell.(因为这些人很可能是小狗饲养者或商业商人,他们对自己出售的宠物的福利不感兴趣。)”,因此空格处应该会提到某种不能买的宠物,E选项“Don’t purchase online or from dealers who offer multiple types of pets(不要在网上或从提供多种宠物的经销商那里购买)”提出了不应该买的宠物,因此承上启下,符合语境,故选E。

Saving Seeds for Next Year’s Flower Garden
Just like vegetable seeds (种子), you can save flower seeds from your garden this year to plant in the following year.
If you want the same kind of flower or plant for next year’s garden, collect only the seeds from plants marked as “heritage”. ____26____ Cross seeds with a mixture of two different parents will produce new plants, but they will only look like one of the parents. Therefore, you are taking a risk with planting cross seeds.
Even if you expect plants to be the same as their parents, it is not certain. Wind or insects could bring pollen from one plant to another and accidentally create a mixture. ____27____ But if you like surprises, start experimenting! You could create a lovely new plant or flower!
Just like everything else in gardening, timing is important. Collect seeds on a dry, sunny day. ____28____ When their pods open, these plants could send their seeds up to 6 meters away. Once on the ground, it is difficult to collect them. Instead, tie a small bag for seed collection over the pod when it nearly opens.
For plants like sunflowers, cut the head off the plant and drop it into a paper bag. ____29____ This will save your fingers!
You can place the seeds in a glass box that can be sealed. Then store them in a cool, dry area. Make sure to mark your glass box so you do not forget what they are. ____30____ But you should plant the new seeds the following year for best results.
A.Keep an eye on some flowers.
B.Let the seeds grow and fall naturally.
C.Give the bag a shake to help separate the seeds.
D.When stored with care, seeds are good for several years.
E.These kinds of plants will grow just like their parent plant.
F.In this case, add more seeds to the soil to make sure that some will grow.
G.You can avoid this by planting only the plant from which you plan to collect seeds.
26.根据上文“If you want the same kind of flower or plant for next year’s garden, collect only the seeds from plants marked as “heritage”.(如果你明年的花园想要同样的花或植物,只收集标记为“遗产”的植物的种子)”以及后文“Cross seeds with a mixture of two different parents will produce new plants, but they will only look like one of the parents. Therefore, you are taking a risk with planting cross seeds.(两种不同亲本的杂交种子会产生新的植株,但它们看起来只像其中一种亲本。因此,种植杂交种子是有风险的)”可知,上文提到了收集标记为“遗产”的植物的种子,本句承接上文说明其结果:这些植物会像它们的母体植物一样生长。故E选项“这些植物会像它们的母体植物一样生长”符合语境,故选E。
27.根据上文“Even if you expect plants to be the same as their parents, it is not certain. Wind or insects could bring pollen from one plant to another and accidentally create a mixture.(即使你期望植物和它们的父母一样,这也是不确定的。风或昆虫可以将花粉从一种植物带到另一种植物,并意外地形成混合物)”可知,本句承接上文说明如何避免意外情况:通过只种植你打算收集种子的植物来避免这种情况。故G选项“你可以通过只种植你打算收集种子的植物来避免这种情况”符合语境,故选G。

30.根据上文“You can place the seeds in a glass box that can be sealed. Then store them in a cool, dry area. Make sure to mark your glass box so you do not forget what they are.(你可以把种子放在一个可以密封的玻璃盒里。然后将它们储存在阴凉干燥的地方。一定要在你的玻璃盒子上做上标记,这样你就不会忘记它们是什么)”可知,本段主要是关于种子的储存的,故D选项“如果小心储存,种子可以保存好几年”符合语境,故选D。

    How Can I Fight Laziness?
Lazy people will never amount to anything in life. However, laziness can be defeated once a few changes have been made in your mind.
____41____. Many people lack sleep constantly, since they stay up too late and get up too early to prepare for work. These people have little motivation once they arrive home. Laziness works hand in hand with a lack of motivation and a tendency to put off things. By adjusting your sleep schedule to provide a few more hours of meaningful rest, you can fight laziness throughout the day.
Another way to fight laziness is to change your mind from passive to active. Some people treat their lives as if they were pushed from task to task. Others take a more proactive approach, viewing each task as a challenge they must overcome alone. ____42____
Some people fight laziness by removing the temptations that surround them. A television in the living room may provide entertainment, but watching too much TV often contributes to laziness. ____43____Complete a few tasks and reward yourself with what you enjoy, such as a good dinner or a film.
Laziness can also be a lasting problem at home. Couples and children may all have different energy levels, but laziness can be spread if not dealt with immediately. ____44____ Be the first to collect and wash dishes after a meal. Others in the home may eventually follow your example and perform their own task. It is difficult to practice laziness when you are surrounded by motivated people.
