It was not long before they lost their way. What’s worse, there were no rivers, springs or even water wells in sight. With their water running out, they decided that the only way to survive (生存) was to ration the water that was left among them. Every day, each person could drink just one small cupful when they stopped for the night.
One evening, when it was Ali’s turn to drink, he noticed the stranger staring at (注视) him. Ali gave him his share of the water. The stranger drank the water, for he was very thirsty, leaving Ali nothing to drink.
Day after day the same thing happened, and Ali became weaker and weaker without drinking water.
One morning, the stranger woke up Ali. “Get up, Ali. We are not far from water now.” Alil ooked at the stranger curiously. “How do you know that?” he asked. The stranger smiled. Tourism can be both good and bad. Yes, it brings in money for the local economy and creates lots of jobs for locals, but it may also bring some problems.
One growing problem is tourists who want to prove that they have visited tourist sites (景点). Tourists have used paint, rocks, or even keys to write on the Luxor Temple in Egypt, the Colosseum in Rome, Stonehenge in the UK, and many, many other places. I have three words for people like this: please stop it. If you want to leave a mark on the world, do it by changing someone’s life with kindness and love. Pass kindness along to future generations (一代人), no destruction (破坏).
Another big problem in some places has been tourists disturbing (打扰) the local people and life. Some tourists walk around and take pictures of local people without asking for their permission (许可). For example, Oxford University and Harvard University have great numbers of tourists visiting their campuses and walking through their libraries and other public areas, taking pictures of students, and disturbing their studies. Another example is Sanlitun where some tourists love to party late into the night, making it difficult for locals to fall asleep. I have three words for tourists like this: please be thoughtful. Have fun in a way that does not disturb others. The number of problems from tourists is endless; walking in large groups without considering others who need to walk by, crossing roads without thinking of local traffic laws, etc. The only way to solve the problem of the terrible tourist is to make sure that you are not one!
Remember, whenever you step outside your country’s borders (国境), you are representing (代表) your country to the rest of the world. Try to be the best, kindest, most polite tourist.
56.What is the best way to leave a mark on the world according to the writer?
A.By visiting a place of interest. B.By writing on some tourist sites.
C.By taking pictures of local people. D.By passing kindness on to future generations.
57.What suggestion may the writer give to tourists according to the passage?
A.Tourists should walk in large groups. B.Tourists should leave a mark on the world.
C.Tourists should consider the locals’ feelings. D.Tourists should prove they have visited some sites.
58.What may be the structure of the passage? (P1=Paragraph 1)
    A. B. C. D.
59.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Tourism causes some problems. B.Tourism can be both good and bad.
C.Tourists represent their countries. D.Tourists disturb the local people.
60.What may the writer talk about next?
A.The problems of tourism. B.The life of the local people.
C.The ways to be the best tourists. D.The time to travel around the world.

Why to shiver when we are cold?
When you feel cold, your body may shiver a bit. Shivering is one of several ways the body tries to keep warm when it’s cold outside. In other words, your inside needs to stay about the same temperature, no matter how hot or cold it is outslde, and shivering helps make that happen.
That’s why when we become cold, our teeth chatter (打颤) and other parts of our body shake, no matter how hard we try to stay still.
When your warm body is exposed (暴露) to cold air, the heat from your body goes into the air. This is because heat always goes from a hot object to a cold one. It’s like when you put a pot of water on the stove, and the hot fire warms the cold water. So in the cold air, you are the fire, and the heat from your body is warming up the air around you. If the air is cold enough to steal your body heat, you feel cold. To make up for all the heat you’re losing to the cold air, your body shivers to try to produce even more heat.
If you can’t keep your body warm enough by wearing warm clothes — that’s to say, if you go outside in a T-shirt on a snowy day — your body will try to make as much heat as it can on its own. When you shiver, your muscles (肌肉) tighten (变紧) and relax over and over again in a short time. The energy that it takes to make your muscles do that gives off heat, keeping your body a little warmer.
61.Why do we shiver when we are cold?
A.To keep warm. B.To shake our body.
C.To relax ourselves. D.To tighten our muscles.
62.What is the underlined word “fire” in Paragraph 3 compared to (比作)?
    A.The air. B.The water. C.Your muscle. D.Your body.
63.Why does the heat of your body go into the cold air?
A.To keep warm for a long time.
B.To steal your body heat on cold days.
C.To give off the heat and energy out of your body.
D.To keep the same temperature inside and outside your body.
64.What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A.Why does your body warm up? B.What makes your body shiver?
C.How does shivering warm up your body? D.Which is the best way to warm up?
65.In which part of the newspaper can you probably find the passage?
    A.Science Today B.Travel Around C.Story Time D.World News

All animals need sleep. Some sleep a little. Others sleep a lot. Some sleep in surprising ways. Keep reading to learn more about how animals get their zzzz’s.
Some animals are light sleepers. Giraffes sleep for just a few hours each day. For giraffes, it is not safe to sleep much more than that. Giraffes have long, thin legs. When they lie down, it is hard to get back up. So giraffes mostly take short naps. They sleep standing up. Horses sleep standing up, too. Like giraffes, they need to be ready to run away. Some animals are big sleepers. Koalas live in Australia. These animals eat only one food: leaves. Leaves do not give them much energy. So koalas sleep most of the time. They sleep for about 20 hours in total. Lions sleep a lot, too. They can feel safe while sleeping. After all, they are predators, which hunt other animals. Who would bother (打扰) a sleeping lion?
Dolphins are always swimming in the sea. So how do they sleep? If they stop swimming, will they drown (淹死)? Dolphins have a great trick for this. They sleep with half of their brains at a time, the other half stays awake. The sides switch (转换) after 20 minutes. Some birds sleep this way, too. They use half of their brains to fly, the other half goes to sleep. After the birds land, they sleep much more.

In my freshman year, I asked myself, “Why am I in school?” I thought I was forced to be there, but I decided just to get along with it until I could find it meaningful.
One day it finally hit me. We were studying Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in our writing class. Each of us was asked to play a part, and I jokingly volunteered to play the nurse. They all laughed, thinking that I, a boy, couldn’t play it, but I decided I was going to be the best nurse ever to appear in the writing class. On the day of the performance, I made it a success, and then I knew what school meant to me. School was then a place where I could explore unknown areas in my mind. Perhaps I hadn’t realized that before because I had never been brave enough to discover it.
To my new-found hunger for learning, I decided that I wouldn’t be shy any more. I began raising my hand higher in class discussions. In oral communication class, I chose unpopular speech topics and made them interesting. In British literature class, I chose to write a song for a creative project. Through these activities, I made classes interesting not only for me, but also for my classmates and teachers.
In short, I have discovered that learning is not something teenagers are forced to experience. Instead, learning is a way teenagers grow. What I want to tell my classmates is that I am a brave and creative actor, musician and writer, whose name each of my teachers knows by the end of their first class, and will be reinforced (增强) each day through my brave behavior.

58.What helped the writer change his thought about school?
    A.The performance. B.The teachers.
C.The class discussions. D.The speech topics.
59.In the end, the writer became ________ in learning.
    A.serious B.active C.unwilling D.impatient
60.What can we learn from the writer?
    A.We should explore learning bravely.
B.We need to play a part in the writing class.
C.We should make teachers know our names.
D.We can learn to be actors, musicians and writers.

In a country where 1. 3 billion people speak 22 officially-recognized languages and hundreds of dialects (方言), communication online can be a problem.
Although there is a rapid rise in the number of Indian internet users who don’t speak English as the first language, 60% won’t shop online because of language problems.
Niki, a voice-enabled e-business app, is trying to solve this. It helps people to use voice commands (指令) to do shopping online. Users speak to the app in their preferred language, ordering products. Niki then presents buying choices from its product providers.
The company’s goal market is people who don’t live in cities and do not speak English In the northern Indian state of Rajasthan, the app has been used for more than 10 million online transactions (交易) since 2018. Now Niki can offer people service in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil and English. The company is planning to introduce seven more languages, and hopes to carry out its business in 10 more states.
Thanks to a machine learning algorithm (算法), Niki is able to understand languages better and better. When the app first appeared, the algorithm only had a 65% accuracy (准确) rate. Now, it can deal with voice commands with 95% accuracy because of a bank of over 250 million conversations, Jaiswal says.
The app differs from typical online marketplaces. It limits the number of buying choices. Rather than offering many similar products as the supermarkets do, Niki presents a few quality - controlled objects from providers. That is more like a la sore.
When users speak to Niki in their native language, the app speaks back in the way of neighborhood shopkeeper. This “culture of service” is popular with many Indian people.

Some English words are made up of the same part and have different beginnings and different endings, such as import, export, report and transport .All these words have the same root—"port", which comes from the Latin word, meaning "to carry "or" to move from one place to another". And according to the part at the beginning, which we call the prefix(前缀),the meaning changes. "Import" means" to carry in "or " to bring into a country"; "export", "ex" means" out of", so this word means "to carry out of the country"; "re" means "back", so "report "means" to tell somebody" or" to bring back information to somebody" ;"transport", "trans" means "across" and it means" to carry across one place to another".
Let's look at the following words: supporter, reporter, importer and exporter. You can see that in his case these words are nouns which are made up of the verbs plus a suffix(后缀), thus meaning a person who completes the verb. So, "supporter" means "somebody who suports"; "reporter" is "somebody who reports"; "importer" is somebody who imports" and "exporter" is "somebody who exports", and so on.

You may see some herons (鹭) in the park using bread or insects as a tool to catch fish. This is just one of the ways in which birds have changed their living habits because of humans. Now, a new study has found that birds that are able to change their behaviors in this way are less likely to die out. These changes may include adding new food to their diet, developing new hunting skills, or living in a new environment. These new behaviors have long been considered advantages in avoiding extinction(灭绝).
To test this on a world level, scientists studied reports of new behaviors among bird species. The study includes more than 3,800 new behaviors among8,600 species of birds. They concluded that the more new hunting skills the birds master, the larger population they will have. In other words, extinction risk reduces as the number of new skills increases.
However, it is stressed that innovation (革新) can only protect birds from changes in their living place, but not from over-hunting or harm from other species. It should be noticed that some animals are very dangerous to some birds: snakes can attack little birds, some hungry mice stole birds' eggs. Above all, humans often mean the greatest danger to birds. They always take up too much space, cut down millions of trees and even cause various kinds of pollution.
This shows that, unlike what is usually believed, the ability to innovate protects animals from some but not all of the rapid changes in the environment.
61.Why do birds change their living habits?
A.Because they like their new habits. B.Because they want to use tools.
C.Because humans ask them to do that D.Because human activities affect them.

65.What's the main idea of the passage?
A.Humans often help birds to change themselves.
B.Innovation in hunting skills has an effect on birds' living.
C.The ability of innovation can protect birds from all danger.
D.Birds can change their hunting skills in the new environment.
