My 15-year-old boy is a high achiever. He is very bright, pursuing everything he does with devotion and determination, And he is a great kid; honest, kind, faithful and caring.
Like a lot of kids who are high achievers, he is a perfectionist and very easy to fall into anxiety. That is manifested in his study, and other things he does as well. For example, he loves tennis but he is often worried about losing in the game. Now he has to stop competing because the pressure he puts on himself is becoming unhealthy. He still plays, but playing socially rather than competitively means that it’s an outlet for him rather than a source of stress.
He does not manage stress well. He puts so much pressure on himself to the point of worrying himself sick over just about every assessment. And he gets so negative about it, everything I say to him is met with negativity, every suggestion with a response that it won’t work, and honestly it’s depressing and tiring.
To help my son I had a patient conversation with him, and he finally followed my advice about physical exercise to ease stress. Whenever he was under a lot of pressure, I would run with him for half an bour and do some push-ups to relax the pressure. Gradually, he became less nervous in the later exams and his scores became more and more stable.
Pressure from grades and perfectionism can be really hard to manage when it comes to schooling. As kids, what they need is effective communication and sincere encouragement. So I have always told and shown my son that we’re proud of him, and that pride doesn’t merely depend on top grades.

    A. Exchanged. B. Explored. C. Achieved D. Reflected.

Today, many people spend a lot of time reading online, whether reading news, social media, or e-books. While online reading opens up a lot of knowledge to people, there are some drawbacks, too. These include eyestrain, headaches, as well as difficulty in even finishing reading the text. Now a new reading plugin (插件) has been intended to help people overcome these problems and read faster online.
The reading plugin called Bionic Reading, which was developed by Swiss designer Renato Casutt, was created with the belief that your brain can read faster than your eyes. The plugin makes the first few letters of each word in bold (粗体), which actually allows your eyes to skip over parts of the text and your brain to fill in what is missing. Incredibly, reading like this feels like finally unlocking 100 percent of people’s brain.
Casutt came up with the plugin by accident. He was reading a book in a foreign language and realized he could read it faster and well master it if he separated it into parts. He has worked for six years to develop Bionic Reading and is still working to perfect it. Many people who want to strengthen their reading ability show interest in it, but more research is needed before it can be definitively shown that the system improves reading ability. But people with dyslexia (诵读障碍) have confirmed that Bionic Reading did help them focus on what they are reading.
Casutt’s goal is to integrate the plugin into all reading apps and online services. “In a digital world dominated (支配) by shallow forms of reading, Bionic Reading aims to encourage a more in-depth reading and understanding of written content,” he said. Bionic Reading is available in several apps like Fiery Feeds, Lire, and Next App. The best way to know if it helps you read better online is to try it yourself and find out what it is all about.
    8. How does Bionic Reading work?
    A. Users can read faster with less thinking.
    B. Users keep their brains much less active.
    C. Users keep an eye on part of the whole text.
    D. Users guess the meanings of some key words.
    9. What benefit does Bionic Reading bring to people with dyslexia?
    A. Selecting suitable reading contents.
    B. Keeping up with reading contents.
    C. Limiting reading time.
    D. Reducing stress from reading.
    10. What can we learn about Bionic Reading?
    A. It has not been put into use so far.
    B. It has already been fully developed.
    C. It leaves users a further reading and thinking.
    D. It helps users skip the new words in reading.
    11. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
    A. New Pioneering Plugin Improves Online Reading
    B. Online Reading Is Sure To Perfect People’s Brain
    C. Spending Time On Online Reading Is Worthwhile
    D. New Pioneering Plugin Still Needs To Be Improved
C 9. B 10. C 11. A
根据第二段的句子“The plugin makes the first few letters of each word in bold (粗体), which actually allows your eyes to skip over parts of the text and your brain to fill in what is missing.(该插件将每个单词的前几个字母加粗,这实际上可以让你的眼睛跳过部分文本,让你的大脑填补缺失的部分)”可知,通过使用该插件阅读,用户的眼睛会跳过部分文本,也就是只关注部分内容。
根据第三段的最后一句话“But people with dyslexia (诵读障碍) have confirmed that Bionic Reading did help them focus on what they are reading.(但有阅读障碍的人已经证实,Bionic Reading确实帮助他们专注于阅读内容)”可知,对于有阅读障碍的人来说,Bionic Reading能帮助他们专注于阅读内容。
根据最后一段Casutt所说的“In a digital world dominated (支配) by shallow forms of reading, Bionic Reading aims to encourage a more in-depth reading and understanding of written content.(在一个被肤浅阅读形式主导的数字世界中,Bionic Reading旨在鼓励对书面内容进行更深入的阅读和理解)”可知,Bionic Reading可以让用户进行更深入的阅读和思考。
根据第一段中的“While online reading opens up a lot of knowledge to people, there are some drawbacks, too. The essence (本质) of fast fashion is to make clothes inexpensively and quickly, to get new trends and styles into stores and online as soon as possible, and it comes at a high social and environmental cost. Keeping production costs low means they can make their clothes cheap, using cheap labour in unsafe working conditions, and in countries with bad environmental regulations.
Throw-away culture is deeply rooted in our society; three in five of our clothing pieces are thrown out within a year. Fast fashion brands keep the consumers hungry and feeling like they need more by attracting them with newness and convincing the consumers that they need what they’re selling. This only results in increasing textile waste as people no longer want but throw it away.
Criticisms of the fast fashion industry include its negative environmental impact: water pollution, the use of toxic (有毒的) chemicals and increasing levels of textile waste. Textile dyeing is the second largest polluter of clean water globally, after agriculture. Fast fashion companies rely on their products being made cheaply and quickly, so they avoid talking when it comes to being aware of their impact on the environment. Greenpeace’s recent Detox Campaign showed that many brands use toxic and dangerous chemicals in their supply chains, and many of the chemicals are either banned or strictly controlled in lots of countries.
In conclusion, the fast fashion industry has a bad effect on our environment through fast fashion brands’ ecological practices and only continues to make the problem last for a long time in the future through extreme consumerist culture. In order for change to happen, the common people need to open their eyes and take measures to prevent the fast fashion from growing.
    12. What’s one of the characteristics of fast fashion?
    A. Causing a lot of anxiety. B. Making people buy old clothes.
    C. Selling most clothes through stores. D. Producing clothes quickly.
    13. Why are fast fashion clothes cheap?
A They are mainly sold online. B. They are made in unsafe countries.
    C. They are made by cheap labour. D. They save the cost of advertising.
    14. How does the society think of throwing away clothes according to the author?
    A. Natural B. Surprising C. Absurd. D. Puzzling.
    15. What’s the way to change fast fashion mentioned in the text?
    A. Changing fast fashion brands’ working conditions.
    B. Changing clothes stores’ sales model.
    C. Introducing stricter laws for factories.
    D. Raising public awareness of preventing fast fashion.
D 13. C 14. A 15. D

根据第一段中“Keeping production costs low means they can make their clothes cheap, using cheap labour in unsafe working conditions, and in countries with bad environmental regulations.(保持低生产成本意味着他们可以在不安全的工作条件下使用廉价劳动力,在环境法规糟糕的国家生产廉价服装)”可知,快时尚的衣服便宜是因为它们是由廉价劳动力制造的。
根据第二段中“Throw-away culture is deeply rooted in our society; three in five of our clothing pieces are thrown out within a year.(一次性文化在我们的社会中根深蒂固;我们五分之三的衣服在一年内就被扔掉了)”推知,社会认为扔掉衣服是自然的事情。故选A。

How to Overcome the Fear of Public Speaking?
One of the strongest emotions for you may be fear, especially when you are giving a speech or talking to anyone in a big hall. ____16____ Here are some tips that may help you overcome it.
____17____ What is holding you back from giving a great speech? Is it the fear of making mistakes? Is it the worry whether audience will like it or not? Or do you just have the stage fright? Well, whatever, just be relaxed and devote yourself to the preparations. Besides, if possible, go to the stage where you will be presenting in advance.
Practice your entire presentation a few times ahead of time. Do it before a few people you know well and ask for their advice. It’s also a good idea to practice with a few people you’re not familiar with. You can also make a video of your presentation. ____18____
Don’t be afraid of a few moments of stillness (静止). If you lose track of what you’re saying due to nervousness, it may seem as if you’ve been silent for a lifetime. ____19____ Even if it’s longer, your audience is unlikely to mind a pause to take in what you’ve said. Just take a few deep breaths.
Slow things down. ____20____ If you don’t rush through your speech, you’ll be less likely to fumble (笨嘴揣舌地说话) over your words. And you will end up expressing yourself more freely and logically as you hope.
    A. Make a clear analysis of the root cause.
    B. It’s probably only a few seconds actually.
    C. Focus on your content rather than your audience.
    D. Take some measures, even if you don’t feel that way.
    E. When people are anxious, they are likely to speak faster.
    F. Thus you can review it and see where you can improve it.
    G. Unluckily, most of you will have to face the pain of anxiety or fear.
G 17. A 18. F 19. B 20. E
根据前文“One of the strongest emotions for you may be fear, especially when you are giving a speech or talking to anyone in a big hall. 下文“Here are some tips that may help you overcome it.”(这里有一些建议可以帮助你克服)可知下文是克服恐惧的建议。 G.“Unluckily, most of you will have to face the pain of anxiety or fear.”(不幸的是,你们中的大多数人将不得不面对焦虑或恐惧的痛苦)提到大多数人都必须面对焦虑或恐惧的痛苦,切题,故选G。
根据下文“What is holding you back from giving a great speech? Is it the fear of making mistakes? Is it the worry whether audience will like it or not? Or do you just have the stage fright? Well, whatever, just be relaxed and devote yourself to the preparations. A.“Make a clear analysis of the root cause.”(分析问题的根本原因)切题,故选A。
根据前文“Practice your entire presentation a few times ahead of time. Do it before a few people you know well and ask for their advice. It’s also a good idea to practice with a few people you’re not familiar with. You can also make a video of your presentation. F.“Thus, you can review it and see where you can improve it.”(因此,您可以回顾它,看看在哪些方面可以改进它)论述了录制视频可以让你随后看你在哪些方面还需要提升,符合题意,故选F。
根据上文“If you lose track of what you’re saying due to nervousness, it may seem as if you’ve been silent for a lifetime. B.“It’s probably only a few seconds actually.”(实际上可能只有几秒钟)符合题意,故选B。
根据上文“Slow things down. 下文“If you don’t rush through your speech, you’ll be less likely to fumble(笨嘴揣舌地说话)over your words. E.“When people are anxious, they are likely to speak faster.”(当人们感到焦虑时,他们可能会说得更快)切题,故选E。

    43. largest
    44. to discover
    45. trying 46. a
    47. are spotted
    48. fixed 49. which
    50. twice
as作介词时,意为“作为”,as a surprise“作为一个惊喜”,故填as。
分析可知,“ 5 (try) to discover the limits of the nesting area”在句中为状语,句子主语the reasearchers与动词try为主谓关系,所以此处用现在分词trying,故填trying。
    51. 假定英语课上老师要求同桌之间交换修改作文,请你修改你同桌写的以下作文。文中共有10处语言错误,每句中最多有两处,每处错误仅涉及一个单词的增加、删除或修改。
    增加:在缺词处加一个漏字符号(∧),并在其下面写出该加的词。
    删除:把多余的词用斜线(\)划掉。
    修改:在错的词下划一横线,并在该词下面写出修改后的词。
    注意:1.每处错误及其修改均仅限一词;
    2.只允许修改10处,多者(从第11处起)不计分
Last Friday, I took part in an English speech contest holding in our school. There were twelve students in the final contest but I was one of them. Fifteen minutes before my turn, I picked my topic and prepared for them. I wrote down that I was going to say. However, when I stood in the front of all judges and students, I was extremely nervous. My mind was total empty. Then I took a deep breathe to relax myself and started my speech. The result was not as better as I had expected, but I preferred to regard it a challenge to myself. I learned a lot from the contest, which process benefited me most.
1.holding→held
    2.but→and
    3.them→it
    4.that→what
    6.total→totally
    7.breathe→breath
    8.better→good
    9.在it后加as
    10.which→whose
“There were twelve students in the final contest”和“I was one of them”是并列关系,不存在转折关系,要用and连接。故将but改为and。
prepared for后用it指代前面的topic。故将them改为it。
故将that改为what。
take a deep breath是固定短语,意为“深吸一口气”。
as...as...
regard...as... 故在it后加as。

The advantages and disadvantages of online education
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, many schools have adopted online teaching methods. However, the attitudes towards it vary from person to person.
On the one hand, online education provides us with a god source of information. It also enables students to study at their own pace, which helps them save time and have a better understanding of what they learn.
On the other hand, high school students may lack the self-discipline to keep up with the workload in online classes. Besides, with too much time spent online, their eyesight may be damaged. What’s worse, it’s hard for them to solve problems in their studies for lack of face-to-face communication with teachers.
Personally, online education is very important, especially at present, but we must use it wisely.
    更糟糕的是:what’s worse→worse still
个人而言:personally→ as far as I’m conerned
Besides, with too much time spent online, their eyesight may be damaged.
Besides, as too much time is spent online, their eyesight may be damaged.
1】It also enables students to study at their own pace, which helps them save time and have a better understanding of what they learn.(运用了which引导的非限制性定语从句)
2】Besides, with too much time spent online, their eyesight may be damaged.(运用了with的复合结构)
