One day, the ballet trainer in her school was late. Melanie was asked to keep an eye on the girls so that they would behave themselves. Once inside the ballet room, all her old memories flooded back. She couldn't control herself anymore. She started off by teaching some steps to the girls and then carried on dancing herself for some time. Unaware of the time and the people around her, Melanie was lost in her own little dancing world.

What a performance, Melanie! You are a true ballerina!” said the ballet trainer entering the classroom. Hearing her voice, Melanie stopped dancing. She was embarrassed to see the teacher in front of her and was at a loss for words. This was the first time that someone had said she was a wonderful dancer. Then the teacher, who was shocked to see Melanie's amazing skills, asked Melanie to visit a dance trainer with her. There has been no looking back for Melanie since then. Today, Melanie is a world-famous ballet dancer.

    Text 1

    M: What’s the date today? May 6th?

W: No, that was yesterday. I hope you didn’t forget everything. It’s Grandpa’s birthday tomorrow.

    Text 2

M: I can’t decide whether to take classes or to look for a job during my summer holidays.

W: You can learn more by working and you can make money at the same time.

    Text 3

M: Linda, you will go to London for the summer holidays, won’t you?

W: I’m not sure. What about you?

M: Oh, I got a letter from Ken. He said he would go back to his hometown Toronto and he asked me to go with him.

    Text 4

    M: It’s time to go.

W: I’m ready. You jump first.

M: Let’s jump out of the airplane together and then open our parachutes.

    Text 5

    M: Call Peter.

    W: I don’t know what to say!

M: Think of something. We can’t just let him come home to find his favorite bike broken! Tell him a tree fell on it in a storm.

W: I’m not going to lie!

    Text 6

W: Excuse me. Do the Number 16 and the Number 6 buses both go across town?

M: Yes, but you may have to change buses. Where do you want to go?

W: I’m going to City Square.

M: Take the Number 14 to River Drive. Then change to the Number 15 or 18. They both go to City Square.

W: Can I get change from the bus driver? I only have some large bills.

M: No! You need exact change.

W: How much is the fare?

    M: It’s two dollars.

W: OK! Thanks a lot for your help!

M: Youre welcome! Dont forget to ask the bus driver about where to change buses.

    W: Thanks! I won’t.

    Text 7

    M: Good morning, Jane.

W: Morning. It is really cold today.

M: It always gets cold after a heavy snow.

W: I love snow. When I was a child. I made snowballs and ran in the snow. Do you like skating, David?

    M: Yes. I do.

W: So do I. By the way, did you hear the weather forecast this morning?

M: Yes. It said that its partly cloudy today with a strong wind from the northwest. The highest temperature will be at least 3 below zero in the morning. But in the afternoon, it will rise a little.

W: Then the beautiful snow might melt away.

    Text 8

W: All right, students. Your homework for the weekend is to review Chapter 3 and to write a summary of the most important ideas in the chapter. Next week, well begin our presentations.

    M: Excuse me, Ms. Diaz…

    W: Yes?

M: How long should our summary be?

W: It should be one page, but no more than that. Also, remember that when you summarize a chapter, you must leave your own opinion out.

M: Yes, ma’am. But there are many different views on the Civil War in American history. It is difficult to summarize anything important without including my opinion at all.

W: A summary only includes the facts. You can use the author’s words directly, but you cannot include your own ideas. For the homework, I just need to see if you understood the main ideas in the chapter.

M: Should we try to connect these ideas to other things we read this term?

W: No. You can do that next week when you give your presentation.

    Text 9

M: Here is the pill. I’ll help you stand up.

W: Can I have a walk around the room or corridor? I have stayed in bed all day.

M: Yes, you can! It seems that feeling well again is not such a long process.

W: I have been in hospital for two weeks, haven’t I?

M: Yes, and you can leave the hospital tomorrow!

    W: Really? I’m so happy.

M: I have written a certificate for you.

W: I’m eager to go home! Doctor, what should I do after I go home?

M: I have two suggestions. First, avoid any mental stress and have enough rest. Secondly, examinations should be done regularly.

W: I’m sure I will follow your advice.

M: Complete recovery will take a long time. So you must take care of yourself.

W: I want to thank all the doctors in charge. I’m very grateful to you all.

M: Don’t mention it! That is our duty!

    Text 10

M: Clara Barton was born on December 25th, 1821. When the Civil War began in 1861, she heard of stories of wounded soldiers. She felt she needed to do something to help them, so she urged people to donate bandages and medicine and delivered these supplies to the battlefield. Clara didn’t stop helping when the war was over. She led a group to search for missing soldiers. This group also worked to identify soldiers killed or missing. After four years of this work, Clara moved to Switzerland, where she first learned about a group called the Red Cross. This group worked to help people who were suffering during times of war. In 1873, Clara returned to the United States. In 1881 she started an American branch of the Red Cross. She served as its first president for over 20 years. As the result of Clara’s hard work and leadership, the Red Cross grew. Today, it also helps people suffering as a result of earthquakes, fires, floods, and other disasters. Clara Barton died on April 12, 1912, but her great contribution, the American Red Cross, lives on.

    D

    33. A。 Named Hydropanels, its devices are powered by built-in solar panels可知,本段主要介绍的是Hydropanels的工作原理。

    34. A。 SOURCE plans to create a plastic-free bottled water brand and sell it to hotels and holiday centers at about the same price as other bottled water brands可知,SOURCE计划创建一个不使用塑料的瓶装水品牌,并将以与其他瓶装水品牌相同的价格出售瓶装水给酒店和度假中心。

    35. C。 Vahid Fotuhi with SOURCE understands the challenges, but he says that Hydropanels help reduce the use of plastics and the environmental footprint, and their selling points remain strong可知,尽管Vahid Fotuhi了解AWGs前期成本高且所产生的水量较少,但是他认为Hydropanels有助于减少塑料使用和环境足迹,即它们对环境有明显的好处。

G项中的asked my Chinese friend与本空下句中的He told me相照应。

    37. D。 D项中的It was used与本空上句中的is perfect for outdoor performances和本空下句中的It is now widely used相照应。

    40. A。 A项中的it is difficult to master与本空下句中的it is difficult to control相照应。

In passing she mentioned that she was going to need ... in passing顺便。

    46. A。 They surprised her with a check for the new roof可知,“她不知道(Little did she know)”大家为她筹钱以帮她换房顶的事情。

    49. D。根据上文中的Lehtman startedthe community came together和下文中的They surprised her可知,Crump到达取包裹的地点后,“迎接(met)”她的是女儿和60多名自己的顾客。

    50. A。 But, the community came together and doubled the ... needed for a new roof可知,除了换房顶的钱外,还有“额外的(extra)”钱。

    51. C。 That same level of enthusiasm remained after the ...finished the day delivering ...

But for Crump it's all compliments可知,人们对美国联合包裹运送服务公司既有“投诉(Complaints)”,也有称赞。

    54. A。 Crump handed the check and money to her daughter and finished the day delivering her ... packages可知,“惊喜(surprise)”过后,Crump把支票和钱交给女儿,继续以饱满的热情投入到工作中。

    55. C。 On Friday afternoon, she was scheduled to ...finished the day delivering可知,此处应指Crump送完了当天“最后的(final)”包裹。
