Technological change is everywhere and affects every aspect of life, mostly for the better. However, social changes brought about by new technology are often mistaken for a change in attitudes.
An example at hand is the involvement of parents in the lives of their children who are attending college. Surveys (调查) on this topic suggests that parents today continue to be “very” or “somewhat” overly-protective even after their children move into college dormitories. The same surveys also indicate that the rate of parental involvement is greater today than it was a generation ago. This is usually interpreted as a sign that today’s parents are trying to manage their children’s lives past the point where this behavior is appropriate.
However, greater parental involvement does not necessarily indicate that parents are failing to let go of their “adult” children.
In the context (背景) of this discussion, it seems valuable to first find out the cause of change in the case of parents’ involvement with their grown children. If parents of earlier generations had wanted to be in touch with their college-age children frequently, would this have been possible? Probably not. On the other hand, does the possibility of frequent communication today mean that the urge to do so wasn’t present a generation ago? Many studies show that older parents - today’s grandparents - would have called their children more often if the means and cost of doing so had not been a barrier.
Furthermore, studies show that finances are the most frequent subject of communication between parents and their college children. The fact that college students are financially dependent on their parents is nothing new; nor are requests for more money to be sent from home. This phenomenon is neither good nor bad; it is a fact of college life, today and in the past.
Thanks to the advanced technology, we live in an age of bettered communication. This has many implications well beyond the role that parents seem to play in the lives of their children who have left for college. But it is useful to bear in mind that all such changes come from the technology and not some imagined desire by parents to keep their children under their wings.
    34. The surveys inform us of ______.
    A. the development of technology
    B. the changes of adult children’s behavior
    C. the parents’ over-protection of their college children
    D. the means and expenses of students’ communication
    35. The writer believes that ______.
    A. parents today are more protective than those in the past
    B. the disadvantages of new technology outweigh its advantages
    C. technology explains greater parental involvement with their children
    D. parents’ changed attitudes lead to college children’s delayed Independence
    36. What attitude does the writer hold towards greater parental involvement according to the last paragraph?
    A. negative B. supportive
    C. understandable D. sceptical
    37. What is the best title for the passage?
    A. Technology or Attitude
    B. Dependence or Independence
    C. Family Influence or Social Changes
    D. College Management or Communication Advancement
    38. Which of the following shows the development of ideas in this passage?
    A. B.
    C. D.
C 35. C 36. B 37. A 38. B
根据第二段中的“suggests that parents today continue to be “very” or “somewhat” overly-protective even after their children move into college dormitories.”
根据最后一段中的“Thanks to the advanced technology, we live in an age of bettered communication.”
根据最后一段中的“But it is useful to bear in mind that all such changes come from the technology and not some imagined desire by parents to keep their children under their wings.”
根据第一段中的“However, social changes brought about by new technology are often mistaken for a change in attitudes.”
【点睛】主旨大意题的难度较大,抓住主题句是关键,社会生活类的文章一般开篇就会点明主题,例如本篇第4题,根据第一段中的“However, social changes brought about by new technology are often mistaken for a change in attitudes.”
    C
Experts hope an experimental drug can be as effective against the novel coronavirus in people as it has been on cells in a controlled lab environment.
The US drug, remdesivir(瑞德西韦), began clinical trials on patients in Wuhan, Hubei province, on Thursday. Other medications, including chloroquine, arbidol and darunavir have also recently been found capable of arresting viral growth in lab cells, but like remdesivir they require more clinical trials to confirm their safety and potency on humans.
The Phase III trials for remdesivir have been approved by China’s National Medical Products Administration and is conducted by the China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences on patients at the Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital.
A total of 761 patients will participate in two trials-one trial to assess the drug’s potency on 308 cases with mild or moderate infection, and the other on 453 severely infected patients, Cao Bin, head of the clinical trial and vice-president of the friendship hospital, said on Wednesday.
Cao said studies have shown remdesivir is effective in inhibiting the growth of the novel coronavirus in vitro(在生物体外), meaning the procedure was done on cells in a controlled environment outside of a living organism, typically in a petri dish or test tube.
But the drug has yet to show convincing clinical evidence that it can translate its positive in vitro results into actual human patients. Hence, it will require rigorous clinical testing, Cao said.
A 35-year-old patient from the United States infected with the virus was reported seeing noticeable improvement with no obvious side effects after taking the drug, according to the New England Journal of Medicine.
Gilead Sciences, the maker of remdesivir, said in a recent statement that it has been working with government agencies on the novel coronavirus response efforts.
However, the company stressed that remdesivir is an experimental medicine that has only been used in a handful of patients on compassionate grounds, “so we do not have an appropriately robust understanding of the effect of this drug to warrant broad use at this time”.
    39. Why does the US drug, remdesivir, began clinical trials?
    A. To see how it takes effect.
B To replace the traditional medicine.
    C. To confirm their safety and potency on humans.
    D. To show whether remdesivir is effective in inhibiting the growth of the novel coronavirus in vitro.
    40. What is true according to the passage?
    A. Chinese Hospital does The Phase III trials independently.
    B. Remdesivir can cure those who are infected with the novel coronavirus.
    C. After taking the drug, a 35-year-old patient was infected with the virus.
    D. Doctors had seen apparent success treating a 35-year-old patient infected with the virus.
    41. What’s the author attitude towards the clinical trial of remdesivir?
    A. Negative. B. Positive. C. Critical. D. Gloomy.
    42. Where is this text most likely from?
    A. A diary. B. A guidebook. C. A novel. D. A magazine.
C 40. D 41. B 42. D
根据第二段“The US drug, remdesivir(瑞德西韦), began clinical trials on patients in Wuhan, Hubei province, on Thursday. Other medications, including chloroquine, arbidol and darunavir have also recently been found capable of arresting viral growth in lab cells, but like remdesivir they require more clinical trials to confirm their safety and potency on humans.”(这种美国药物,瑞德西韦,周四开始在湖北省武汉市的患者身上进行临床试验。
根据第三段“The Phase III trials for remdesivir have been approved by China's National Medical Products Administration and is conducted by the China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences on patients at the Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital.”(国家医药产品监督管理总局已经批准了瑞德西韦的第三阶段试验,该试验由北京的中日友好医院和中国医学科学院在武汉金银潭医院对患者进行。) 选项A错误;根据最后一段中“However, the company stressed that remdesivir is an experimental medicine that has only been used in a handful of patients on compassionate grounds”(然而,该公司强调,瑞德西韦是一种实验性药物,只有少数病人使用过)可知,作为一种实验性药物,瑞德西韦只有少数病人使用过,并不能证明这种药可以治愈新冠肺炎感染的病人,选项B错误;倒数第三段“A 35-year-old patient from the United States infected with the virus was reported seeing noticeable improvement with no obvious side effects after taking the drug, according to the New England Journal of Medicine.”(据《新英格兰医学杂志》报道,一名来自美国的35岁感染该病毒的患者在服用该药物后出现了明显的好转,没有明显的副作用。)
根据第一段“Experts hope an experimental drug can be as effective against the novel coronavirus in people as it has been on cells in a controlled lab environment.”(专家们希望一种实验药物能够像在受控实验室环境中对细胞一样有效地对抗人体中的新型冠状病毒。) A.

The earliest known copy of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa—thought to have been painted at the same time as the original masterpiece—has been discovered at the Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain. The work offers art-lovers an attractive clue to what the model for the world’s most famous painting really looked like. Controllers of the museum found the picture hidden beneath layers of paints during restoration work on a picture initially thought to have been a later replica(exact copy) of the Mona Lisa.
The restored version shows the same woman that Leonardo depicted (描画), against a landscape similar to that shown in the background of the original, which now hangs in the Louvre in Paris. And while the features of Leonardo’s Mona Lisa have been dulled by centuries of dirt and layers of cracked paints—which are unlikely ever to be removed—in the recently-rediscovered copy, she appears fresher-faced and younger than her better-known “twin”.
News of the find was revealed at a meeting at London’s National Gallery, linked to its “Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan” exhibition. “This sensational (轰动的) find will transform our understanding of the world’s most famous picture,” the Art Newspaper reported, adding that the clues found on the Madrid version suggest that the original and the copy were begun at the same time and painted next to each other, as the work went on.
Miguel Falomir, manager of Italian painting at the Prado, told reporters that expert analysis suggested a strong link between Leonardo and the artist who painted the copy. “The painting was done in the painter’s own workshop,” he said. “It is absolutely consistent with Leonardo’s work, but Leonardo didn’t actually do any work on it himself.”
    43. Which of the following is TRUE about the new version of the Mona Lisa?
    A. It was a restored version by Leonardo.
    B. It was painted much later than the original version.
    C. It is better preserved than the original one.
    D. It has been dulled by layers of cracked paints.
    44. We can learn from the third paragraph that ________.
    A. the new version of the Mona Lisa went on display at a meeting.
    B. there would be two versions of the Mona Lisa at the exhibition.
    C. Leonardo was made to paint with another painter meanwhile.
    D. the new finding affects the understanding of the original version.
    45. What can we infer from the text?
    A. The artist painted the copy in his home.
    B. The artist who painted the copy must have been Leonardo’s student.
    C. The artist finished painting the copy under Leonardo’s guidance.
    D. The artist who painted the copy had close relation with Leonardo.
    46. What is the main idea of the text?
    A. The Prado Museum has discovered the earliest copy of the Mona Lisa.
    B. The Prado Museum restored the earliest copy of the Mona Lisa.
    C. The Prado Museum displayed the recently-rediscovered copy of the Mona Lisa in Spain.
    D. The Prado Museum offers art-lovers a better understanding of Leonardo.
C 44. D 45. D 46. A

根据第二段中的in the recently-rediscovered copy, she appears fresher-faced and younger than her better-known “twin”可知,与收藏在卢浮宫略显晦暗的《蒙娜丽莎》“本尊”相比,该画作中的蒙娜丽莎面色清晰红润,即它比原版的保存得更好。
由第三段的This sensational (轰动的) find will transform our understanding of the world’s most famous picture可知,这一新发现将加深世界艺术爱好者对达·芬奇“真迹”——《蒙娜丽莎》的理解。
结合最后一段的expert analysis suggested a strong link between Leonardo and the artist who painted the copy(专家分析表明,达·芬奇和画这幅画的艺术家之间有很强的联系)可推知,该画作者与达·芬奇的关系密切。
The earliest known copy of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa -- thought to have been painted at the same time as the original masterpiece- has been discovered at the Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain.(西班牙马德里普拉多博物馆发现了列奥纳多·达·芬奇的名作《蒙娜丽莎》的最早副本,据称这幅画与原作同时创作。) 故选A。
此时,要注意一些转折词,如but, yet, however, although, in spite of, by contrast, on the contrary等。
