When faced with tough difficulties or troubles, people always give us positive words.    11    can lift our spirits indeed, but sometimes in some case it    12    depresses us. Psychology calls it “toxic positivity.” What is it? Let’s see the following    13   .

Between sleepless nights, diapers (换尿布) and feeding times, having small children at home could leave Priscilla Goins feeling    14   . She loved her kids, but it was a lot. “I would sometimes say ‘I just want a minute to myself,’” Goins, of Knoxville, Tennessee, said. “People would be like: Oh, you’ll miss it when they’re ___15___or you should value it.” That made her so mad. She doesn’t   16    what people say. She disagreed at all. Actually, in those moments, she simply wanted    17    that she was going through the tiredness    18   .

A focus on positive thinking, while putting challenging and    19    experiences to the side, is what some experts call “toxic positivity.” Being cheerful is not a bad thing. Certainly, a    20    attitude can be a gift to those around you, but it shouldn’t    21    listening thoughtfully to others’ experiences. When you are choosing to look at    22    from one angle-in this case a positive angle-you are very likely to dismiss or deny an authentic   23   . That’s toxic positivity, which is what Goins   24    when she was looking for a bit of mercy about the    25    of parenting young children. Even if you’re trying to    26    someone, ignoring someone’s tough experiences can leave them feeling that they should    27    negative feelings in the future.    28    trying to find a positive spin, we are supposed to use accepting and comprehensive words. Sometimes we just need to say “Yeah, me too,” or “That makes total sense.” It’s allowing someone to express something that is    29   , even if it’s hard to hear or it’s    30   .

                                      A

Fifteen years ago, I took a summer vacation in Lecce in southern Italy. After climbing up a hill for a panoramic (全景的) view of the blue sea, white building and green olive trees, I paused to ach my breath and then positioned myself to take the best photo of this panorama.

Unfortunately, just as I took out my camera, a woman approached from behind, and planted herself right in front of my view. Like me, this woman was here to stop, sigh and appreciate the view. Patient as I was, after about 15 minutes, my camera scanning the sun and reviewing the shot I would eventually take, I grew frustrated. Was it too much to ask her to move so I could take just one picture of the landscape? Sure, I could have asked her, but something prevented me from doing so. She seemed so content in her observation. I didn’t want to mess with that.

Another 15 minutes passed and I grew bored. The woman was still there. I decided to take the photo anyway.  And now when I look at it, I think her presence in the photo is what makes the image interesting. The landscape, beautiful on its own, somehow comes to life and breathes because this woman is engaging with it.

This photo, with the unique beauty that unfolded before me and that woman who “ruined” it, now hangs on a wall in my bedroom. What would she think if she knew that her figure is captured (捕捉) and frozen on some stranger’s bedroom wall? A bedroom, after all, is a very private space, in which some woman I don’t even know has been immortalized (使永存). In some ways, she lives in my house.

Perhaps we all live in each other’s space. Perhaps this is what photos are for: to remind us that we all appreciate beauty, that we all share a common desire for pleasure, for connection, for something that is greater than us.

That photo is a reminder, a captured moment, an unspoken conversation between two women, separated only by a thin square of glass.

    31. What happened when the author was about to take a photo?

    A. Her camera stopped working. B. A woman blocked her view.

    C. Someone asked her to leave. D. A friend approached from behind.

    32. In the author’s opinion, what makes the photo so alive?

    A. The rich color of the landscape.

    B. The perfect positioning of the camera.

    C. The woman’s existence in the photo.

    D. The soft sunlight that summer day.

    33. The photo on the bedroom wall enables the author to better understand ________.

    A. the need to be close to nature B. the importance of private space

    C. the joy of the vacation in Italy D. the shared passion for beauty

    34. The passage can be seen as the author’s reflections upon ________.

    A. a particular life experience B. the pleasure of traveling

    C. the art of photography D. a lost friendship

B    32. C   33. D   34. A

    C

Earthquakes are common natural disaster. No matter where you are, knowing how to protect yourself and your family during an earthquake is necessary.

Some expert propose that when you feel the ground is shaking, drop down, take cover under a desk and hold on. Most earthquake injuries are the result of being hit by something falling on you. You should stay indoors until the shaking stops. If you are outdoors, don’t stay near building, trees or power lines. Many people think that in case of an earthquake, they should “get under something” like a doorway or desk, in order to avoid being hurt by falling objects.

Rescue experts now say this is the wrong thing to do. For example, in the 1985 Mexico City earthquakes, they found hundreds of children in schools, crushed by their desks. However, they could have survived by lying in the aisle (通道,走道) next to their desks.

So find a nice piece of furniture, a chair, a sofa, and lie down, or curl up next to it. A falling roof may compact the furniture, but will still leave a space for you to survive next to it. This also holds true if you are in a hotel room, especially at night. Get of the bed, and lie down next to it.

In San Francisco’s 1989 earthquake, the upper freeway fell on the lower one. People who drove along were crushed in their cars. But they had time to get out and lie down next to their cars. Yes, their cars were cashed bur there was space from top to bottom next to the vehicles for people to survive and await a rescue.

Doorways and stairways are very unsafe Slay away from those.

What can we do to keep ourselves safe? Saying calm is the first and most important rule when facing accidents.

    38. What should you do first when accidents happen according to this passage?

    A. Get under buildings B. Stay near trees.

    C. Keep calm D. Drop down

    39. What can we learn from the text?

    A. “Get under something” can avoid being hurt

    B. Right earthquake survival tips can save life.

    C. Earthquakes cause great damage.

    D. Don’t drive on the upper freeway during an earthquake

    40. Which of the following is the closest meaning of the underlined word “crushed” in Paragraph 3?

    A. hidden B. protected

    C. killed D. supported

    41. How can we probably get a narrow escape from an earthquake?

    A. Lie down next to a strong piece of furniture or a car

    B. Lie down under a table or desk

    C. Run out of the house and stay under a big tree.

    D. Shout out loudly and ask for help

C    39. B    40. C    41. A

根据最后一段的“Saying calm is the first and most important rule when facing accidents”(当面对事故时,镇定是首要也是最重要的规则)可知,根据这篇文章,当事故发生时,你应该首先保持冷静,故选C

根据倒数第二段的“People who drove along were crushed in their cars. But they had time to get out and lie down next to their cars. Yes, their cars were cashed bur there was space from top to bottom next to the vehicles for people to survive and await a rescue”(开车的人都被车压扁了。

根据第三段的“However, they could have survived by lying in the aisle (通道,走道) next to their desks”(然而,如果他们躺在桌子旁边的过道里,就有可能活下来)可知,那些躲在课桌下的孩子被压死 了,因此crushed意为“killed”,故选C

根据第四段的“So find a nice piece of furniture, a chair, a sofa, and lie down, or curl up next to it. A falling roof may compact the furniture, but will still leave a space for you to survive next to it”(所以找一件漂亮的家具,一把椅子,一个沙发,躺下来,或者蜷缩在它旁边。倒塌的屋顶可能会压紧家具,但仍会为你在它旁边留下生存的空间)和倒数第二段的“Yes, their cars were crashed but there was space from top to bottom next to the vehicles for people to survive and await a rescue”(是的,他们的车被撞坏了,但在车的旁边有从上到下的空间供人们生存和等待救援)可知,在一件结实的家具或一辆汽车旁边躺下可以使我们从地震中死里逃生,故选A

Teenagers who spend hours in front of the television may have a poorer diet as young adults.

A study, which included nearly 1,400 high school students, found those who watched TV for five hours or more per day had less healthy diets than peers(同龄人) five years later. Why does this happen? Should the parents take any measures?

On the one hand, people who spend a lot of time in front of the TV, especially teenagers, may snack more, and that may affect their long-term diet quality.

On the other hand, TV ads for fast food, sweets and snacks tempt teenagers to eat more of those foods. And TV time might also replace exercise time for some kids.

Lead researcher Dr. Daheia of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, told Reuters Health a clear correlation(关联) between TV time during high school and diet quality in young adulthood. While the heaviest TV viewers were eating the most junk food, those who’d watched less than two hours per day had the highest intake(吸收) of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and high-calcium food. In her opinion, parents should limit and monitor TV viewing.

As far as I am concerned, children should watch no more than two hours of television per day. And parents should set a good example by eating right, being physically active and curbing their own TV time.

    42. What’s the best title for this passage?

    A. People Should Keep Away from TV to Keep Healthy

    B. Teenagers’ TV Time May Affect Their Diets Later

    C. Why Do Teenagers Like TV?

    D. Parents’ Own Habits May Affect Children Later

    43. What suggestion does the author give the parents?

    A. They must watch TV with their children.

    B. They can’t do what they don’t want their children to do.

    C. They should forbid the children to watch TV.

    D. They should pay attention to nutrition in diets.

    44. The underlined word “curbing” in the last paragraph can be replaced by “_________”.

    A. adding     B. stopping      C. checking   D. controlling

    45. According to the passage, heavy TV viewers tend to _________.

    A. take in fewer vegetables       B. eat more fruits

    C. eat less junk food        D. take in high-calcium food

B    43. B    44. D    45. A

4On the one hand, people who spend a lot of time in front of the TV, especially teenagers, may snack more, and that may affect their long-term diet quality. On the other hand, TV ads for fast food, sweets and snacks tempt teenagers to eat more of those foods. And TV time might also replace exercise time for some kids.

根据As far as I am concernedchildren should watch no more than two hours of television per day. And parents should set a good example by eating right, being physically active and curbing their own TV time.

As far as I am concernedchildren should watch no more than two hours of television per day. And parents should set a good example by eating rightbeing physically active and curbing their own TV time.

根据While the heaviest TV viewers were eating the most junk food , those who'd watched less than two hours per day had the highest intake(吸收)of fruitsvegetables, whole grains and high-calcium food. In her opinionparents should limit and monitor TV viewing.

If you are worried about things and are under a lot of pressure at work or school, you are probably not sleeping well. Worry can keep you awake, turning in bed until the early hours of the morning when you finally fall asleep. When you wake up, you don't feel fresh, but tired and worn out and unable to face a new day.

Dr. Henry Winkle, in a recent newspaper article “Stress and Sleep”, says that worry and sleep are directly related. He says, “The more we worry, the less we sleep, and the more we are unable to deal with pressure. If we can find a way to get a good night's sleep,” he adds, “we can often find the energy to deal with what's worrying us.”

So, what is a good night's sleep? Research shows that the amount of sleep which people need in order to keep healthy varies a lot. Seven hours is about the average amount. Though strangely enough, sleeping longer often gives you a headache instead of making you feel more comfortable.

Dr. Winkle believes that preparing for sleeping is important. People who work late should try to give themselves a short break and do something restful before going to bed. Doing some exercise earlier in the day should help you to feel physically as well as mentally tired. A bedtime drink can also help, but not coffee or tea. “When you put the light out,” Dr. Winkle says, “pay attention to relaxing your muscles(肌肉), working slowly up from your feet, and you'll be asleep before you know it.”

    46. How do you feel if you don't sleep well? within 12 words

    48. What is the main idea of the passage? within 5 words

    49. How long is a good night's sleep in average according to the author? within 5 words
