Caño Cristales is a famous river in Colombia known as the “river of five colours”. It is also considered by many as the most beautiful river in the world.

Located in the Serranía de la Macarena National Park in Colombia, the river is made up of several waterfalls, rapids and plenty of pools. With a length of around 62 miles, it lies entirely within the national park.

From January to May,Caño Cristales looks like any other river. There is a bed of rocks covered with moss (苔藓) below a coolclear river. Howeverbetween June and early December the most amazing change takes place there. During this time, the river becomes a mix of colours, including yellow, blue, green, orange and red. And it is the most beautiful from July to October.

At first, people thought the colours might be man-made. However, this rainbow-like river is formed completely naturally. The colours are the result of a rare plant in the river which changes its colours according to how much sunlight it receives.

The plant is beautiful but weak. This makes it easily damaged. Within the park, there are a lot of human activities that may cause damage to the river. Normally from mid-December to May, the river is closed to tourists to give the area's ecosystem a break. Also, during the dry season there is not enough water to support life in the river.

Anyway,Caño Cristales stands out as one of Colombia's most popular natural attractions, drawing thousands of tourists every year.

The city of Brighton and Hove is asking to use “bee bricks” in the construction of all buildings above 5 meters to help encouragebees which dont harm humans to nest (筑巢) in them

Bee bricks are what seem to be pieces of Swiss cheese, but they are actually normal building bricks created with small holes into which bees typically nest. Old brick buildings have been considered as excellent habitat for bees, so Brighton and Hove is trying to use this simple invention to offer more room to bees.

Not everyone concurs that these bee bricks are a good idea. Some point out that there is not enough proof that the holes are large enough for a bee nest, that they have a population impact, or that the holes have to be cleaned to prevent harmful mites (螨虫)from living there.

However, there are studies that find bees will build nests inside these holes and cap the entry ways to hibernate(冬眠).Some scientists add that the mites will disappear after one or two seasons and that they don't need to be cleaned.

Lars Chittkaa professor at Queen Mary Universitysaid that bees naturally own hygienic(卫生的) behavior that would allow them to reduce the risks at least to some degreeor that they would examine the holes' states before using them, which should to some degree reduce the risks that come with such long-term nesting opportunities.

Faye Clifton, CEO of Green &Blue, the company that makes the bricks, says modern buildings don't have these natural holes bees depend on. If not for bee bricks, she warns, hundreds of miles of land could lose its biological diversity. She also stresses bee-friendly planting needs to go with the use of bee bricks as most bees will only search for food within 100 meters of their nesting places.

    28.Why is Swiss cheese mentioned?

A.To show the function of bee bricks.

B.To show the popularity of bee bricks.

C.To show the appearance of bee bricks.

D.To show the inspiration for bee bricks.

29.What does the underlined word “concurs” in Paragraph 3 mean?

    A.Agrees.

    B.Suggests.

    C.Comments.

    D.Realizes.

30.What do Lars Chittka's words show?

A.Bees are good at taking risks.

B.Bees like the bee bricks best.

C.Bees will live well in the bee bricks.

    D. Bees like clean living environments.

31.What may Faye Clifton agree with?

    A. Modern buildings are not green enough.

B.The number of bee-friendly plants is too small.

C.It is hard to increase biological diversity in cities.

D.Bee-friendly planting should be near to bee bricks

    D

Despite many air-pollution-reduction policies(政策) designed to improve healththese are always ineffective. Often this is because they fail to consider local knowledge and cultural practices. Previous research suggests that people should be put at the centre of developing ways around the problem. Thus, a study has been done to confirm it.

One of the authors of the study, Dr. Cressida Bowyer from the University of Portsmouth, says, “For the first timea study has placed arts and humanities (人文学科) methods at the centre of the exploration of perceptions (感知) of air pollution. Working with local communitieswe were able to discover how people there understood air pollution.”

Researchers from the University of Portsmouth, and researchers and experts from the UK, Kenya and Sweden worked together with local people in Mukuru in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya in East Africa, to explore a range of methods including storytelling, music, art and theatre to explore understandings of air pollution. Some community members made digital(数字的)stories by taking photos around Mukuru which told their story of air pollution. Trained community researchers helped school children to create drawn and/or written stories of their experiences of air pollution. Theatre pieces were presented in key community spaces around Mukuru. Suggestions were given by the audience about how to solve the problem and local people acted out their suggestions as part of the theatre. The song “Mazingira”, which explained the problems of air pollution, had been played on national radio and television stations with an audience of about three million people.

Dr.Sarah West, Principal Investigator at the Stockholm Environment Centre, says,“From this range of methods we have got a more detailed understanding of how air pollution is perceived and understood in Mukuru. The project also created new spaces for conversations about the topic of air pollution in the community. We expect other researchers wishing to discuss difficult problems to use various creative methods to have a wide range of people take part in their activities. This can lead to unexpected understandings that may not otherwise exist.”

32.Why are many air-pollution-reduction policies ineffective according to the text?

A.Local people don't care about the issue.

B.Little attention is paid to local people.

C.No one is responsible for offering solutions.

    D. Policymakers don't have enough experience.

33.Which of the following was a creative method used to explore the airpollution issue in Mukuru?

    A. Fully accepting local people's proposals.

    B. Inviting actors to give professional performances in theaters.

    C. Training local students to reduce air pollution.

    D. Using music to make people realize the problem.

34.What does Sarah West advise researchers to do about talking about difficult problems?

A.To have a more detailed understanding.

    C. To have conversations in communities.

    B. To creatively get many people to join in.

D.To attract support from local experts.

35.What is the best title for the text?

    A. How can local people make further research?

    B. Air-pollution problems cannot be solved traditionally

C.How can music, dance and art help cut air pollution?

D.Researchers help people in Nairobi cut air pollution

    阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Cats are a mysterious kind of animal-there is more passing in their minds than we know of. I can't agree more with this because of my recent experience.

It was the Sunday before Labor Day, and I was tired after spending the day at a picnic in a relative's garden. I looked out of the window before climbing onto bed. Stars filled the night sky, and crickets(蟋蟀) gently sang in the darkness. All seemed right with the world.

My big, old black-and-white cat, Oreo, lay on the foot of my bed where he slept every night, keeping my feet warm. I climbed onto bed and immediately fell into a deep sleep.

I had just fallen asleep when Oreo woke me up by walking over my stomach. I looked at the bedside clock: 3:10 am. I had no idea why Oreo was troubling me. He'd never done that before unless I overslept in the morning, but that usually happened at 8:00 am, not in the middle of the night.

I pushed Oreo off merolled over and pulled the blanket (毯子) over my head. But Oreo didn’t stop. He stepped on my head and began to make noises loudly.

“Oreo,”I said. “Go back to sleep.”

But Oreo wouldn't stop. He kept walking on my stomach and legs, continuing to trouble me. Suddenlythere was a crash of thunder (雷), and I sat up on the bed and looked out of the window. Lightning filled the sky. Strong winds blew through the window. Rain started to come down hard, making it almost impossible to see the trees in the yard. Soon the wind was picking up and the branches of the trees were moving violently(强烈地).A terrible storm had started.

Seeing the sight, I was struck with horror. Thinking that it was not safe to stay in the house, I climbed out of bed, put on my clothes, and held Oreo in my arms.

    1.续写词数应为150左右;
