Hello, I’m Rob. Welcome to our programme. Today we’re talking about high-speed train travel. Many countries have very fast trains that transport people from city to city in super-quick time. Yes, high-speed train travel is becoming popular. Well, we’ll be finding out why the UK is hoping to do something that is already popular by building a new high-speed rail line.
We know that high-speed train travel has many good things. It helps to take traffic off the road, it causes less pollution, it can move lots of people and it’s quick. Yes, speed is important. Now, the TGV train in France takes about three hours to travel over 750 kilometres from Paris to Marseille in the south - very impressive.
But the UK has been slow to build high-speed rail lines. It has one from London to Paris, but the Transport Secretary, Patrick McLoughlin, thinks one line is not good enough. People can go from London to Paris on high-speed trains, but can’t go from London to Birmingham. That means you can get to Paris by train more quickly than you can travel to many British cities. The government wants to build another one — called HS2 — connecting London to the middle and north of England.
But not everyone agrees to the plan and there is much discussion. Some say it will be very expensive to build, although some experts（专家）say for every 1 pound spent, it will bring 2 pounds back. There are also worries that some of the countrysides will be destroyed. It could be a long time before a final decision is made. So now we’ll just have to accept that our trains in the UK will carry on at an unhurried speed while we watch with envy as another country’s high-speed train passes us by!

Eric Carle, the author and artist behind “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, passed away at the age of 91. Mr. Carle’s lively, creative, and colorful work continues to be read and loved by children across the world.
Mr. Carle was born in Syracuse, New York in 1929. His parents were Germans. As he was growing up, Mr. Carle spent a lot of time with his father, who would take him out walking in nature. On a usual day, Miranda jumped out of bed even before the alarm clock could ring. She did not mind getting up early. Lu was born in Jingling in 733 A.D. As a child, he became a student of Zou Fuzi. Thanks to his teacher’s guidance, he learnt a lot. He often made tea for his teacher. He also took care of his fellow students’ health using his knowledge on tea and herbs (草药).
Lu Yu often went to the countryside to gather tea leaves and herbs. On one of those trips, Lu Yu found a spring. The water was quite clear and clean. When Lu made tea with this spring water, he found the tea tasted better than usual. From then on, he realized the importance of water quality in making tea.
In 752 A.D. Lu Yu finished his studies and returned to Jingling, where he met Cui Guofu. Both men shared the same interests in tea, literature and poetry. They soon became good friends. Since then, the two spent much time travelling, drinking tea and writing poems together.
This period was important to Lu Yu as a man of literature. Cui, with his rich experience and skills in writing, became a coach of Lu. He provided necessary help for Lu’s writing. It was during this time that Lu finally wrote the amazing work, The Classic of Tea.

Researchers at Georgia Tech have been working to improve a musical robot called Shimon. Now Shimon doesn't simply play music, he also writes the words to his own songs and sings them.
Shimon has been around for quite a while as a musical robot. Even back in 2015, he was playing with other musicians at the Kennedy Center in New York. What Shimon could do back then was already pretty cool.
