I grew up on a farm — but it was only 10 acres (英亩), so it was not a large farm. More of a hobby farm! But being in that environment and learning to operate (操作) machines really got me interested in farming. By the age of 16, I had begun my first farming job — using those 10 acres to plant onions. I had a lot of help! We had a family friend who owned a produce company, and he was the one that said, “If you're going to move into farming, we can guide you”. They really helped from start to finish, with everything from seed (种子) depth to when to water the onions. I learned a lot from them. This first taste made me realize that a life on the land was for me.
I love the fact that what I do influences so many families. I also get on with my workers and my customers. I use social media platforms to get in touch with buyers and to make it as clear as possible about how I produce food that ends up in our homes. There are a lot of misunderstandings about farming. So, I try to put out as much helpful media as I can. We work so hard to put food on the table, and we would like people to understand the ins and outs of what we do.
One of the most common misunderstandings about farming is pesticide (杀虫剂) use. Some people think that if it comes with a warning sign, it's going to kill everybody. In reality, there are important steps that we take to make sure that it's safe. We take the natural method wherever we can, but if we have to use some kind of pesticide, we read and understand the instruction before we use the product. Further down the line, we send some of our plants to the lab. We've never had any bad results.
I'm young, and I'm willing to take chances. I'd like people to say that I was a pioneer in farming.

Hiking (徒步旅行) the Longji Rice Terraces in southern China is something I would advise everyone to do. The area covers over 16, 000 acres, with their creation beginning during the Yuan Dynasty. If you translate it, the name means “Dragon's Backbone” because of the fact that the rice terraces look just like a dragon's scales, while the top of the mountain looks like its backbone.
I began my visit from Ping'an, a small village, as I had stayed at the “Li Qing Guesthouse”. From where the bus drops you off you will pass small shops, and then you will hike up to get to the guesthouse. It's really hard, especially with your bag on, but the view of the hill and rice terraces from your bedroom window is really great. The people are also very helpful and friendly as they helped my group to get a guide for the Longji Rice Terraces hike. The rooms have air conditioning and an in-room bathroom. Moreover, the food is delicious, and you can choose either Western comfort food or local Zhuang food.
From Ping'an I hiked for 5 hours through the Longji Rice Terraces to the village of Dazhai. During the trip not only will you view nature at its most breathtaking, but you'll also get the chance to see colorfully dressed local Zhuang and Yao women working in the fields. The terraces are dotted (星罗棋布于) with small homes, and since I was with a local guide I got the chance to stop for lunch in one of them. It was really beyond all expectations that the woman would go out into the fields to “pick our lunch” before preparing a delicious meal of rice, egg, sweet potato leaves, and new potatoes (just like in America!). Although the break was nice, I honestly couldn't wait to get back to the trip and continue immersing (沉浸) myself in the beauty of the rice terraces. The only real way I can describe it is that you'll feel like you're on another planet the entire time, as scenery (风景) that beautiful is just unworldly.

It's become accepted that exposure ( 暴露) to blue light — the type produced by electronic device's ( 设备的) screens — is bad for sleep. Researchers have understood that your body is controlled by its circadian rhythms. They are a set of repeated physical, mental, and behavioral changes. The clearest circadian rhythm is the one that makes you tired at night and watchful during the day. This process ( 过程) is directed by melatonin, a chemical produced by your body when it's dark outside. Nighttime light exposure can put this process into disorder, stopping melatonin production and keeping you up longer. Many studies have suggested blue light is an especially powerful melatonin suppressant (抑制剂).
That thinking about blue light has led to inventions meant to stop the influence, like “night mode (模式)” settings on your iPads or phones and glasses that say people believe decrease blue light.
But a paper by a group of researchers at the University of Manchester in the U. K. printed in Current Biology challenges that belief. After exposing mice to lights that were different in color but of the same brightness and watching their following activity, the team said that yellow light actually seems to stop sleeping more than blue. Warm light, they believed, could make the body think it's daytime, while cooler blue light more closely copies evening.
Animal studies should be accepted with a certain degree of care, as they often do not translate directly to human behavior, says Dr. Cathy Goldstein. She is a sleep expert at Michigan Medicine. Though mice are often used in sleep research, Goldstein notes since they are active at night, they may behave differently to light than humans do.
Goldstein agrees research on how light from electronics influences sleep hasn't been conclusive. But she says there's no reason not to use night mode on electronics. Just remember to turn down the brightness, she says.

I grew up on a farm — but it was only 10 acres (英亩), so it was not a large farm. More of a hobby farm! But being in that environment and learning to operate (操作) machines really got me interested in farming. By the age of 16, I had begun my first farming job — using those 10 acres to plant onions. I had a lot of help! We had a family friend who owned a produce company, and he was the one that said, “If you're going to move into farming, we can guide you”. They really helped from start to finish, with everything from seed (种子) depth to when to water the onions. I learned a lot from them. This first taste made me realize that a life on the land was for me.
I love the fact that what I do influences so many families. I also get on with my workers and my customers. I use social media platforms to get in touch with buyers and to make it as clear as possible about how I produce food that ends up in our homes. There are a lot of misunderstandings about farming. So, I try to put out as much helpful media as I can. We work so hard to put food on the table, and we would like people to understand the ins and outs of what we do.
One of the most common misunderstandings about farming is pesticide (杀虫剂) use. Some people think that if it comes with a warning sign, it's going to kill everybody. In reality, there are important steps that we take to make sure that it's safe. We take the natural method wherever we can, but if we have to use some kind of pesticide, we read and understand the instruction before we use the product. Hiking (徒步旅行) the Longji Rice Terraces in southern China is something I would advise everyone to do. The area covers over 16, 000 acres, with their creation beginning during the Yuan Dynasty. If you translate it, the name means “Dragon's Backbone” because of the fact that the rice terraces look just like a dragon's scales, while the top of the mountain looks like its backbone.
I began my visit from Ping'an, a small village, as I had stayed at the “Li Qing Guesthouse”. From where the bus drops you off you will pass small shops, and then you will hike up to get to the guesthouse. It's really hard, especially with your bag on, but the view of the hill and rice terraces from your bedroom window is really great. The people are also very helpful and friendly as they helped my group to get a guide for the Longji Rice Terraces hike. The rooms have air conditioning and an in-room bathroom. Moreover, the food is delicious, and you can choose either Western comfort food or local Zhuang food.
From Ping'an I hiked for 5 hours through the Longji Rice Terraces to the village of Dazhai. During the trip not only will you view nature at its most breathtaking, but you'll also get the chance to see colorfully dressed local Zhuang and Yao women working in the fields. The terraces are dotted (星罗棋布于) with small homes, and since I was with a local guide I got the chance to stop for lunch in one of them. It was really beyond all expectations that the woman would go out into the fields to “pick our lunch” before preparing a delicious meal of rice, egg, sweet potato leaves, and new potatoes (just like in America!). Although the break was nice, I honestly couldn't wait to get back to the trip and continue immersing (沉浸) myself in the beauty of the rice terraces. The only real way I can describe it is that you'll feel like you're on another planet the entire time, as scenery (风景) that beautiful is just unworldly.

It's become accepted that exposure ( 暴露) to blue light — the type produced by electronic device's ( 设备的) screens — is bad for sleep. Researchers have understood that your body is controlled by its circadian rhythms. They are a set of repeated physical, mental, and behavioral changes. The clearest circadian rhythm is the one that makes you tired at night and watchful during the day. This process ( 过程) is directed by melatonin, a chemical produced by your body when it's dark outside. Nighttime light exposure can put this process into disorder, stopping melatonin production and keeping you up longer. Many studies have suggested blue light is an especially powerful melatonin suppressant (抑制剂).
That thinking about blue light has led to inventions meant to stop the influence, like “night mode (模式)” settings on your iPads or phones and glasses that say people believe decrease blue light.
But a paper by a group of researchers at the University of Manchester in the U. K. printed in Current Biology challenges that belief. After exposing mice to lights that were different in color but of the same brightness and watching their following activity, the team said that yellow light actually seems to stop sleeping more than blue. Warm light, they believed, could make the body think it's daytime, while cooler blue light more closely copies evening.
Animal studies should be accepted with a certain degree of care, as they often do not translate directly to human behavior, says Dr. Cathy Goldstein. She is a sleep expert at Michigan Medicine. Though mice are often used in sleep research, Goldstein notes since they are active at night, they may behave differently to light than humans do.
Goldstein agrees research on how light from electronics influences sleep hasn't been conclusive. But she says there's no reason not to use night mode on electronics. Just remember to turn down the brightness, she says.
