    Naming hurricane
New research frm the University f Illinis finds that hurricanes with female names are likely t cause mre deaths than thse with male names. The study examined ver 60 years f hurricanes which hit the US. The results shwed there were higher death tlls, n average, when the hurricanes were given a female name. This wasn’t because female-named hurricanes were any mre severe; rather that peple’s behavir changed.
Sharn Shavitt, ne f the authrs f the reprt, explained: “In judging the intensity f a strm, peple appear t be applying their beliefs abut hw men and wmen behave. This makes a female-named hurricane, such as Belle r Candy, seem gentled and less vilent.” Peple uncnsciusly say t themselves: hw culd I be killed by a hurricane called Candy? In fact, hurricanes are named arbitrarily, and the names tell yu nthing abut the severity f the strm.
But, if peple in the path f the strm are letting its name affect whether they take shelter, what we call it may matter mre than we think. Having searched thrugh the recrds, the researchers returned t the lab t test their finding experimentally. Peple were given a series f hypthetical strms with male and female names and asked t make judgments abut their intensity and the risk they faced. The results shwed that peple ften regarded male-named hurricanes, like Hurricane Christpher r Hurricane Victr as mre intense and riskier than the female-named nes, like Hurricane Alexandra and Hurricane Christ. Shavitt cntinued, “Peple imagining a ‘female’ hurricane were nt as willing t seek shelter. The fixed ideas that underlie these judgments are subtle and nt necessarily hstile tward wmen — they may invlve viewing wmen as warmer and less aggressive than men.”
The fact is that until the late 1970s, hurricanes were always given female names, as they were thught t represent wmen’s qualities like unpredictability. This practice — and the sexist reasning behind it — was rightly abandned in favur f chsing between male and female. Strangely, thugh, what we’ve learnt is that we’d be better ff naming all hurricanes after men t take advantage f peple’s fixed views.
The researchers estimate that changing a severe hurricane’s name frm “Elise” t “Charles” culd ptentially cut the death tll by ne-third. Perhaps the naming f hurricane is ne specific situatin where we shuldn’t wrry abut being sexist, if being a little sexist is ging t save lives.
11.Hurricanes with female names are likely t cause mre deaths because________.
A.male named hurricanes are nt terrible
    B.female-named hurricanes are mre severe
C.peple think the female-named hurricanes are nt severe

    A.Elise.B.Candy.C.Christina.D.Charles.
14.It can be inferred frm the passage that ________.

C.sexism in naming hurricane’s will be bannedD.rules f naming hurricane will be changed

    9.
由第三段中的“The maximum number f students/children per grup is 25 and masks must be wrn frm the age f 12.(每组最多可容纳25名学生/儿童,12岁起必须佩戴口罩。)”

根据第一段“This wasn’t because female-named hurricanes were any mre severe; rather that peple’s behavir changed.(这并不是因为女性命名的飓风更严重;而是人们的行为改变了)”以及第二段“Peple uncnsciusly say t themselves: hw culd I be killed by a hurricane called Candy?(人们无意识地对自己说:我怎么会被一个叫糖果的飓风杀死呢?)”
根据划线词上文“Peple uncnsciusly say t themselves: hw culd I be killed by a hurricane called candy?
根据最后一段“The researchers estimate that changing a severe hurricane’s name frm “Elise” t “Charles” culd ptentially cut the death tll by ne-third.(研究人员估计,将一场严重飓风的名字从“埃洛伊塞”改为“查尔斯”可能会使死亡人数减少三分之一)”可知,以男性命名的飓风可能会使死亡人数减少三分之一。故选D。
    14.
根据最后一段“Perhaps the naming f hurricane is ne specific situatin where we shuldn’t wrry abut being sexist, if being a little sexist is ging t save lives.(也许飓风的命名是一种我们不应该担心性别歧视的具体情况,如果稍微性别歧视就能拯救生命的话)”可知,飓风的命名是特殊情况,如果这样稍微的性别歧视能挽救更多生命,还是可以接受的。故选B。

Wh knws what micrrganisms were swimming in that lake.(当我看着杯子时,我想起了我们在生物课上准备的用来培养细菌的溶液。
根据第三段“We reached the village just befre sunset. After eating dinner and resting fr several hurs, we started t travel again. The night jurney was magnificent. The sky was clear, the mn was full, and millins f stars seemed t be twinkling at the night travelers. We culd hear the bells f anther car a van cming frm the ppsite directin, getting luder and luder as it gt clse. The ding-a-ling f that caravan added a rhythm t the lnely desert.(我们在日落前到达了那个村庄。
根据最后一段中“As I gt clser, I was able t read the wrds: Welcme t Pakistan I started t cry, walking backwards t get ne last glimpse f my belved cuntry.(当我走近时,我看到上面写着:欢迎来到巴基斯坦。 故选A。

    18.
根据第一段第一句“In the mid-1950s, I was a bred by student wh believed that ding any mre than necessary was wasted effrt.
Ttten usually walked up and dwn the rws f desks requesting answers frm student after student in the rder the questins had appeared n ur hmewrk sheets. 和第五段中的“Since I was seated near the middle f abut 35 students, it was easy t figure ut which questins I might have t answer.
由第六段中的“Hwever, what I failed t expect was that several students were absent. As Mrs. Ttten made her way frm the beginning f the class, I tried my best t think f and decide which math prblem I wuld get. I tried t wrk it ut befre she gt t me. but my brain culdn’t functin at that mment. 和第七段“When Mrs. Ttten reached my desk, she asked what answer I’d gt fr prblem N.14. ‘I…I didn’t get anything,’ I answered, and my face burned with shame. 故选A项。
    21.
通读全文,尤其是最后一段“I thught a lt after class that day. Till nw, I still remember what happened in that math class. If I culd chse ne schl day that taught me the mst, it wuld be that ne.

所以采访中的“My educatin has been the library and bks (我的教育已经在图书馆和书籍中。)”
