    阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
    A
So you’re looking to ski at one of the best? We’ve done the hard work for you.
    Breckenridge
Breckenridge is an extremely popular ski destination. I’s undoubtedly an awesome mountain to ride, but it can also get discouragingly crowded. This is not surprising given all the things Breckenridge has going for it: affordable lodging(借宿), an abundance of slopes and North America’s highest lift. The town atmosphere is fun and relaxing, plus there are a ton of shopping, dining, and drinking options to choose from. With so much to offer, Breckenridge makes for a great ski resort that suits all budgets.
    Aspen Snowmass
Aspen is the ultimate ski destination for the rich and has evolved into four separate ski areas: Aspen, Snowmass, Buttermilk, and Aspen Highlands. They’re all linked by a shuttle system, accessible with a single ticket, and gathered around one of the greatest ski towns in the world. Aspen is truly the king of apres-ski(滑雪后的社交娱乐)with endless dining and nightlife options! It’s also one of the few ski resorts in Colorado where you won’t be affected by altitude sickness. For all the appeal that brings celebrities here, Aspen does come at a price.
    Jackson Hole
Jackson Hole is infamous for its extreme terrain(地形)and steeps with the most continuous vertical in the US. Although it has the reputation of an expert’s paradise, recent improvements have made intermediate terrain easier to access. On the other side, Jackson Hole is not ideal for first-timers and kids due to the lack of beginner terrain. Crowds can also be an issue. If you’re looking for ski-in/ski-out access, stay in Teton Village which has a handful of bars; if not, the town of Jacks.
    21. If you are a beginner with a tight budget, which skiing resort may you choose?
    A. Buttermilk. B. Breckenridge.
    C. Jackson Hole. D. Aspen Snowmass.
    22. What can we learn about Aspen Snowmass?
    A. It is economical to ski there.
    B. It offers limited social activities.
    C. One ticket can be used in 4 ski areas.
    D. Visitors will feel sick for its high altitude.
    23. What’s the same disadvantage of Breckenridge and Jackson Hole?
    A. The price is expensive.
    B. The traffic is not very convenient.
    C. They are not friendly to beginners.
    D. They are very crowded sometimes.

    B
As we’re all aware, social media is fake. People only showcase their best moments. But beyond this aspect, a lot of the photos are straight-up fake. Celebrities are airbrushed; some lie about their plastic surgery. Many Photoshop their faces and bodies to look exactly how they want. There are countless ways to pose to change their bodies.
TikTok(抖音)is not immune to these things. It may be harder to use Photoshop when it’s a video, but people find ways around it with different angles, lighting, and posing. This is not to say that they themselves don’t look good — it’s just that this isn’t how they look all the time. We can’t hold ourselves to that high of a standard when we see ourselves so often. But beyond the unrealistic standards that social media propagates(散播), TikTok heavily promotes eating disorder culture, and unhealthy attitudes about food and weight in general.
Unfortunately, it’s challenging to escape from this content. The TikTok is alarmingly accurate. If you interact with a video once, similar videos will continue to come up on your For You page. Interacting can be liking the video, commenting, sharing, following the creator, or even letting the video play multiple times. Once you’ve done this, it’s hard to escape from these videos. The best thing to do is to click “not interested” when one of these videos pops up.
I’ve learned a lot from my own struggle with an eating disorder. During my treatment, the most striking thing my nutritionist said to me was, “You don’t have to love your body.” I thought she was joking. But she’s absolutely right. What she meant is that it’s not realistic to love your body all the time. There are going to be moments when you don’t like something about yourself, and that’s okay. No one thinks every part of themselves is perfect. Self-love isn’t always realistic; self-acceptance is much better.
    24. What does the underlined part “immune to” in paragraph 2 mean?
    A. Included in. B. Affected by.
    C. Protected by. D. Exceptional to.
    25. What is the best way to escape from some unwanted content?
    A. Play it repeatedly.
    B. Refuse information push immediately.
    C. Give it a bad comment.
    D. Give it a like and share it with your friends.
    26. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
    A. The author was once mentally disordered.
    B. The nutritionist was humorous.
    C. Self-love is the most important.
    D. Self-acceptance is more realistic.
    27. What is the best title of the passage?
    A. Social media is fake.
    B. You should love your body.
    C. TikTok boosts eating disorder culture.
    D. People only show their best moments.

    C
PORTLAND, Maine — The number of whales entangled(缠住)in fishing gears(装备) has declined recently, but the entanglements remain a critical threat to rare species, the federal government said in a report released Tuesday.
There were 60 confirmed cases of large whales entangled in gear in the U. S. in 2020, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Tuesday. That was a 25% decline from the previous year and a lower figure than the 13-year average.
Every coastal region except Alaska saw a decrease in whale entanglements, NOAA said. It will take more research to determine the cause of the decline in entanglements, and it’s possible that the COVID-19 pandemic’s disruption of both fishing activities and data reporting could have played a role. It’s also possible that factors unrelated to the pandemic could have played a role, as some regions have reported large-scale environmental changes, like marine heat waves, which may also be affecting large whale entanglement rates and reporting.
More than half the entangled whales were humpback whales, which are popular with whale watchers and have a relatively stable worldwide population. However, four of the whales were North Atlantic right whales, which have a population decline due to recent years of high death rate and poor reproduction. The right whales give birth off Florida and Georgia and migrate north to the waters off New England and Canada to feed. Scientists and conservationists have sounded alarms in recent years that warming waters seem to be causing the whales to swim away from protected areas of ocean in search of food.
“The current level of entanglements is more than whales can stand”, said Kristen, an agent of a conservation group. The group and others have pushed for tighter restrictions on commercial fishing to prevent the whales from entanglement. These reports show far too many endangered whales are caught in fishing gear, particularly because reported entanglements are just the tip of an iceberg,” Kristen said.
    28. How many confirmed cases of large whales entangled in gear in the U. S. were there in 2019?
    A. 48. B. 64. C. 80. D. 96.
    29. What caused the population decrease of the North Atlantic right whales?
    A. Many can’t survive or have young.
    B. More than half of them were entangled.
    C. COVID-19 pandemic affected their life.
    D. Heat waves makes them lacking in food.
    30. What is the passage mainly about?
    A. Why stricter laws should be banned.
    B. Why less whales have been entangled.
    C. What people have done to help whales.
    D. How we can help to increase whale numbers.
    31. What is Kristen’s attitude towards whale entanglement?
    A. Confused. B. Frightened.
    C. Concerned. D. Tired.

    D
“Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits, and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.” — Robin Williams from Dead Poets Society. This is true to my first-year self, who was crazy about getting good grades, and failed to seek the happiness found in everything else that college has to offer.
Like some people, I grew up with a family that valued academics over all else, who gave you a little extra love when you were doing great in your classes, and took it away when you didn’t. As a result, my self-worth became tied to my academic success. There is a difference between trying to always better yourself for yourself, and simply putting too much on your plate until you burn out from attempting to live up to certain expectations. We should all try to do the former, but unfortunately our mindsets have been strange to follow the latter.
For the past week, I have been going around campus asking my friends what they wanted to get out of college. Why were they truly here? As you can imagine, most of the answers I got can be summed up to one word一money. It is obviously a given that everyone who puts themselves through college sees it as a means to an end, that end being making a living in the future. And few went on to say they were truly passionate about what they were studying.
However, we should all try to develop a long-sighted perspective on how we want to shape our lives. Do things with intention, because everything you do now will have a hand in shaping who you turn out to be, whether you like it or not. Take some classes on topics that you’re genuinely interested in learning about, not just passing. Join clubs or work on projects that resonate with you and push you beyond your boundaries. Build a community. Surround yourself with people who challenge and excite you. And most of all, embrace the fact that failure and loss are sometimes inevitable in life.
    32. What is the function of paragraph one?
    A. To share an idea.
    B. To introduce the topic.
    C. To tell the readers a story.
    D. To quote a famous saying.
    33. What should people do according to paragraph two?
    A. Perfect yourself for yourself.
    B. Live up to certain expectations.
    C. Treasure academics over all else.
    D. Tie self-value to academic success.
    34. According to the author, what should people get out of college?
    A. Good grades and passion to learn.
    B. The ability to make a lot of money.
    C. The ability to make a living in the future.
    D. A farseeing view on how to direct our lives.
    35. Why does the author write the passage?
    A. To inspire readers to the true meaning of college life.
    B. To tell readers a story about his college life.
    C. To explain why good grades is not everything.
    D. To complain about his family’s wrong attitude to him.

    阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Andrew was a new student in my class, who had emotional management problems. Since he had been suspended from class many times in previous years, I assured the worst when he came to my class.
Andrew sat at the back of the classroom. Every time I talked in front of the class, he would chat with the students around and even laugh loudly. Every time I called on him to answer a question, he would respond with a casual “I don’t know”. If I gave him a slight, criticism, he would become really angry. As an experienced teacher, I can always get students involved in class discussion or at least motivate them to sit quietly and listen attentively. But for Andrew, I was really powerless. He was just noisy and rude.
One day, Andrew was talking loudly in the class when I was teaching. I said in the usual tone of voice, “Andrew, why don’t you join in our discussions but have one of your own?” Hearing that, he got up from his chair, pushed the books over and shouted something. I couldn’t hear clearly what he said other than several rude words. After the class, Andrew was sent to my office, where I gave him a discipline referral a week’s out-of-school suspension. Deep in my mind, though, I didn’t expect referrals to be effective since students would return behaving even worse than before. But what else could I do with such a trouble-maker?
I had to admit this was one of my most awful teaching experiences. Andrew’s anger was almost unexpected and out of control. The week without Andrew’s presence was a wonderful time, and the class went on smoothly and efficiently. However, with his suspension week drawing to a close soon, I felt restless and uneasy. Would he disturb the class as always? Would he take revenge(报复)on me?
    注意:
    1. 续写词数应为150左右:
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
On the day when Andrew was supposed to return, I waited for him at the door.

A flash of surprise spread over his face.

    One possible version:
    Dear fellow students,
It is a common phenomenon that many fresh senior 3 students are under great pressure, thus developing an unhealthy lifestyle.
To meet the challenges of the senior year, it is of vital significance that we say no to the unhealthy lifestyle. To begin with, we are supposed to go to bed early so that we can maintain refreshed and dynamic in the daytime. Besides, it is of great benefit to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables so as to provide sufficient nutrition for our body. Additionally, it’s highly advisable that we do exercise on a regular basis, which is an ideal way to relieve stress.
Nothing matters more than health. It is high time that we made a change and lead a healthy life from today on!

    读后续写
    One possible version:
On the day when Andrew was supposed to return, I waited for him at the door. Eventually, the familiar figure appeared, walking with his hands in his pockets. As he came close, I was about to greet him when he ignored me deliberately. “Sorry, Andrew. I should have had a talk with you to find a way out before giving you a suspension,” apologized I. With his head lowered, he didn’t utter a single word. “Maybe next time you can’t control yourself in class, you can step out of the door for a while to collect yourself,” added I, trying to break the ice.
A flash of surprise spread over his face. The naughty boy froze there, staring at me with wide eyes. “It is I who should say sorry,” murmured he, his face burning with shame. With a smile of relief, I patted him on his shoulder, signaling to him to go back to his seat. In the days that followed, Andrew didn’t misbehave in class anymore and took an active part in class discussions. Never before did it occur to me that “apologies” could make such a huge difference — it turned one of my worst experiences into perhaps the best one!

    Text 10
M: Vatican Radio recently began its first regular news broadcast in Latin. The broadcast is the latest effort to expand the use of Latin.(17)The weekly(18)Vatican Radio news broadcast lasts five minutes. It will be followed by a 30-minute show with Latin conversation. The radio’s news team, as well as the Vatican’s Latin translation department, will produce the program. Italian businessman Luca Desiata published a new book of crossword puzzles in Latin and ancient Greek this month.(19)This book is thought to be the first with no help or explanations in modern languages. Desiata said the Internet has helped renew interest in Latin as more and more schools around the world stop teaching it. He said we now have Wikipedia in Latin, and about 40 Latin Facebook groups around the world. Many attempts have been made to bring Latin back to popular use. Some have tried to introduce new words for things that did not exist at the time of the Roman Empire.(20)In the 1990s, for example, top Vatican Latin researcher Carlo Egger came up with some words for common objects in the home. Maybe given time, the dead language will come back to life.
