    (一)细节理解题
    一般针对某个特定的细节而提供,难度较小,属表层信息理解,考生通读短文后可直接找出答案依据。
    解题技巧:
    通读短文,领会文章大意,理解文章结构层次及细节,特别注意:
    1. 五个W (who , which , when , where , what )和一个H ( how ) ;
    2. 数字、日期、时间等;
    3. 注意加强语气的词。然后运用排除法排除不符合原文细节的选项,剩下的就是要选择的最佳答案。
    (二)词句理解题
    此题要求考生正确理解短文中的一些关键词语或句子的含义,常用的方法是多种表达法、一词多义法、同义近义或反义提示法、习语释文法及句型转换法等。

    A. (选自精锐二模模拟卷C卷)
Daniel needed a new carburetor (化油器) for his car. Well, not a new one. A new one would cost at least $250. Even a rebuilt one would cost about $110. The cheapest thing to do was to go to a salvage yard.
California has about 50 salvage yards. Most of them are in southern California. The yards range in size from 10 acres to 70 acres, holding anywhere from 300 to 3,000 abandoned, damaged, or cheaply sold cars. The yards are usually located outside of downtown but near a freeway ramp (斜坡). A salvage yard might pay you up to $200 to take your rundown car off your hands. Before they place it in the yard, however, they will remove all its liquids—oil, gas, coolant (冷却剂), brake fluid (制动液), transmission fluid, etc. Vehicles usually sit in the yard for only a month before they are crushed (压碎), piled, and then transported to a recycler.
Vehicle parts are inexpensive, but you have to remove them yourself. Nothing in the yard, however, comes with a guarantee. If it doesn’t work or fit, you can replace it with a similar item, but you won’t get your money back. Daniel borrowed his brother’s car. After paying the $3 entry fee to the man in the little wooden shack (棚屋), Daniel walked into the yard. He walked about five minutes before he found the foreign car section. It looked like there were at least 200 cars. It was sunny and hot. There was no shade anywhere in the yard. Carrying his toolbox, Daniel went searching for a matching carburetor.
Almost three hours later, Daniel was back at the shack. He paid $20 and walked out of the yard. Driving home, he wondered if all the work was worth the savings. If the carburetor didn’t work, he’d have to do this all over again.
When he got home, his brother Monty was standing next to Daniel’s car. Monty had a big smile on his face. “Hey, guess what? It wasn’t your carburetor. It was the fuel filter. I changed it, and your car runs again.”
    72. Daniel may save at least ___________ by finding a matching carburetor in the yard instead of
    buying a new one.
    A) $87 B) $227 C) $230 D) $90
    分析:新的部件需要250,去除3元的入场费和20元的购买费。(事实细节题)
    74. The best title of the passage may be___________.
    A) Salvage Yard B) Saving or Wasting
    C) A Matching Carburetor D) What A Pity
    分析:本文讲的是Daniel为了省钱而去挑便宜货,但是最终问题又不是出在化油器上,因此是节约还是浪费呢?B选项较为妥帖。(主旨大意题)

    B. (选自精锐二模模拟卷B卷)
After picking up the Oscar prize for Best Actor, Eddie Redmayne, 33, has joined the ranks of the best in show business. Playing professor Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything (《万物理论》), he even received a warm message from Hawking himself. “Congratulations to Eddie Redmayne for winning an Oscar for playing me,” he tweeted. “I’m very proud of you.”
The son of a banker, Redmayne took acting classes from a young age. He attended the Eton school with Prince William and studied art history at Cambridge, and won his first theater award in 2004. But the freckle-faced (脸长雀斑的) actor waited until The Theory of Everything for his first leading role.
Redmayne was excited and nervous when he got the opportunity. To play a great thinker is challenging for any actor. Playing Hawking requires even more guts (胆量) because the world famous physicist was diagnosed (诊断) with ALS (肌萎缩侧索硬化症), a muscle disease with no cure, at age 21.
He spent four months studying Hawking’s life and watched every documentary he could find on the scientist. He also met with more than 30 patients to understand how ALS affected Hawking. He lost 15 pounds (6.8kg) for the role and grew long fingernails after learning this was Hawking’s habit.
Upon winning the Best Actor award, Redmayne also won the audiences’ hearts. He had mixed feelings as he walked up to the stage, before announcing, “This Oscar belongs to all of those people around the world battling ALS.”
The humble (谦虚的) actor had a message for Stephen Hawking: “Thank you for reminding me of the power of love and the will to live every second of your life as fully as possible.”

Every year many young people leave school for a few weeks or months and enjoy an unusual type of educational program. They learn new skills by living in a different country and doing unusual jobs. There are several organizations. They help students to find the experience they are looking for. The table below shows a few possibilities for students.

One interesting possibility is helping elephants in Thailand. Most people think o elephants as animals in zoos. In fact, many elephants in Thailand are no longer kept in cages. Now, hundreds of them are homeless. They don’t have owners to care for them. Although they may look well, they are often in poor health and don’t have enough to eat.
One centre in Thailand cares for these elephants. It gives them a safe and natural living space. When they are at the centre, they stay in a building but are free to walk around. Students come from all over the world to help here. The student helpers work with the elephant keepers. These keepers train the students in caring for the elephants. In the morning, they go to the forest together and lead the elephants to the centre. They clean them and give them food. In the afternoon, they take the animals back into the forest for the night. Helping at the center is interesting and the young people learn a lot.

Arthur sat at the desk in his room, pencil in hand. He had to write a story for his English class by Friday. “I don’t know what to write about,” he complained to his dog Toby, who was asleep at his feet. Arthur was talkative when speaking to his friends, yet he had trouble finding words when he had to write.
By bedtime Arthur had drawn a picture of Toby smiling. He had drawn a tree with its branches blowing in the strong wind. He had also written a note asking his friend Lee to go to the movies on Saturday. But he had not written a single word of his story.
On Wednesday, Mrs. Solomon, Arthur’s English teacher, asked the class to turn in the first draft of their stories. His heart sinking, Arthur turned in the only work he had—the page with his name, the drawings and the note.
Arthur wasn’t surprised when Mrs. Solomon asked him to stay after class the next day. But he was surprised by what she said to him. “This is an attractive story, Arthur. The dog, the movie, the tree in the wind—I can’t wait to find out how they all fit together.”
“That isn’t my story, Mrs. Solomon,” Arthur admitted. “I haven’t been able to think of one yet.”
“Oh, I think you have the seed(种子of a story there,” Mrs. Solomon replied, “Look at your note and the pictures and see if a story comes to you.”
That night Arthur sat at his desk, and this is what he wrote: “One Saturday Mike went downstairs to meet his friend Julio at the cinema. It looked as if it might rain, so Mike carried his umbrella. Suddenly a big storm blew in, bending the trees. The noise of the wind sounded like the barking of Mike’s dog Toby. Toby really hated storms and barked whenever he wanted to be let inside. Then Mike realized that it wasn’t the sound of the wind. It was Toby. The dog was running after him down the busy street, barking. The sound was filled with blame. Mike felt guilty because he had left Toby outside. He turned and headed home with Toby running beside him. Mike let Toby in the door just as the rain started to pour down.”
Arthur had a story in the end. The last thing he did was to write his name proudly at the top of the page.
    9. Why did Arthur turn in the page with only his name, the drawings and the note at first?
    A. Because he had no time to fit them together.

    Dear David,
I’m glad you’ll come to Beijing to learn Chinese.
Chinese is very useful, and many foreigners are learning it now. it’s difficult for you to learn because it’s quite different from English. You have to remember as many Chinese words as possible. It’s also important to have more practice on reading and writing. You can watch TV and listen to the radio to practise your listening. Don’t forget to take notes while doing it. Speak loud and bravely, and do your best to talk people aournd you. If you have any questions please ask me. I’m sure you’ll learn Chinese well.
Hope to see you soon in Beijing.
    Yours,
    Linda

How can we learn English well?
I want to get good grades in English. So I try many ways to make me succeed in doing it. Here are some good suggestions.
First of all, we have English classes at school every day, and I listen to the teacher carefully in class. I keep speaking English as often as I can in class. Secondly, doing English homework is one of the most useful ways. If I meet something that I don’t know, I will probably know where my problem is and work it out. Thirdly, I listen to American radio broadcast, and I watch the news channels and other American programmes with my family every day. Finally, I go to American stores as often as possible. I can get more chances to learn more new words, and find every chance to talk to Americans in English.
Anyway, the most important thing is not to be afraid to open your mouth, it doesn't matter even though you speak incorrectly. It’s a good start. I’m very appreciative of the teaching and encouragement from Ms. Colina Smith. That is the key to opening the door of learning English.

A good way to learn English.
    Passage 1.
As we all know, Shanghai is an international city, so it is very important for us to learn English well. To achieve the aim, I have a good way. We can learn English well by reading English books and watching English movies as often as possible. We can learn a lot of new words from that. Words play a very important part in learning English. I believe if you do it now, you will soon be a good English learner.

    Passage 2.
English is an international language that everyone should learn. Different people have different ways to learn English. Here, I’d like to introduce my good way to learn English to you. It’s rather simple to do. All you need is an English novel. You should try your best to understand the story first. While doing this, write down the unknown words. When you finish reading the whole book, look these words up in the dictionary, then re-read the novel. If you follow these steps, I’m sure you’ll improve a lot. Let’s do this together and in the future, we’ll be able to speak English like the English.

    Passage 3.
It’s common knowledge that English is the second language. It's important to learn English well. Everyday I watch English programmes on TV such as ICS, BBC and so on. In my opinion, words are the key to the door of English. So we can improve our English by memorizing words. It’s necessary and convenient if we have correct methods. By using these ways for a month, I have improved my scores from 125 to 135. So I suppose everyone can use this piece of advice.

How can we prepare for a test?
Nowadays, to have a test is very frequent, so it’s necessary for us to prepare for a test.
I usually begin to prepare for a test a week before the test. It can provide enough time for me to get ready for the test. I always review the notes and do some exercises which can improve my study. What’s more, I also review the exercises in which I have made a mistake. I think the methods are useful because I have got a good mark after using them.
I hope that everyone will have a great score after preparing for the test well.

A helpful friend for English study.
In English learning, an English dictionary is a helpful and important friend for me. Whenever I meet an unfamiliar word or a new expression, I look it up in the dictionary and get a clear explanation. It helps me develop my language skills. I can find in the dictionary some rules of English spelling, pronunciation and meanngs, and the examples tell me how to use the words correctly. The dictionary makes English learning an easy task. I find it more and more difficult to learn English well without the English dictionary.[来源:学&科&网]
