Grebet is a 22-year-old design student in Ivory Coast. Everywhere he looks, he sees signs of Western influence - from the shopping malls lining the streets in his home city to the way his classmates speak and dress. "We are living like we are Western people," he says. "It's like we are not proud of our own culture, " So he created emojis (表情符号) that show what he thinks is missing from global keyboard culture: symbols of history and daily life in Ivory Coast and neighboring countries.
In 2018, he released a free group of over 360 emojis in a mobile app called Zouzoukwa, which means "image" in the local language. Available on Android and iPhone, it now has over 120,000 downloads. It's more impressive than other emoji apps. The emojis show life and culture in Ivory Coast and the surrounding regions(地区), including traditional masks, African instruments and people dressed in a variety of prints and clothing that show regional heritage
Some of his favorite designs are a series of facial expressions commonly used in his region, but not available as a standard emoji. "They are expressions we often use in real life, but they were not represented on our phones," Grebet says. "The next step is to try and get some of my designs into the official emoji set, where they'd reach more than 2 billion people worldwide, as standardized symbols on smartphones everywhere,"
Grebet plans to keep traveling and expanding his experiences and his emojii pack. His designs so far are drawn from his experiences and research into a few African countries.

After graduation in 2018, Chen Minlin didn't hunt for a suitable job, but became a hiker (徒步旅行者). "Completing different hiking routes is like collecting cards in childhood," the 24-year-old told China Daily. Like Chen, more young people are going on journeys to rediscover the simple and beneficial joys of walking. According to Youxiake, a Hangzhou-based tour operator, more than 140,000 travelers signed up for hiking trips from last May to October. This represents a 9. 3% increase over the same period last year.
For most hikers, exploring nature can help them keep fit. Hiking in nature enables them to breathe fresh air, gives the whole body exercise and keeps them away from the crowds in urban public places. More than 11,000 scientists are warning that the Earth is facing a climate emergency. They represent several fields of study and come from 150 countries around the world. They approved a report that appeared in the publication Bioscience. It warns that the world will face "untold human suffering" if people do not make lasting changes in human activities that influence climate change. The new report is called "the World Scientists' Warning of a Climate Emergency". Three leaders of the study from the United States worked on the study with scientists from universities in South Africa and Australia. This is the first time a large group of scientists have jointly used the word "emergency" when talking about climate change.

The report referred to 6 areas that the world needs to deal with immediately. The scientists appealed to nations to use energy more efficiently and cut their use of fossil fuels. They suggested that lawmakers approve taxes on the burning of carbon-based fuels, such as coal, oil and natural gas.
The scientists expressed support for women's rights and making family planning services reach all people. They said this would help to reduce unexpected changes in the size of the human population. The report urges (敦促) people to move toward more of a plant-based diet. Other areas of concern include preventing permanent loss of some plant and animal species in the forest. The report notes that the public should take strong action to move politicians (政治家) to approve lasting policy changes.
The scientists added, " We believe that the outlook will be positive if decision-makers and all of humanity immediately respond to this warning of a climate emergency, and act to preserve the life on the Earth, our only home."

After you exercise, drink some water, but wait 60 to 90 minutes before eating," says Shivani Sahni director of the nutrition program at Harvard University. "You're trying to take advantage of your metabolic (新陈代谢的) rate, so if you can go an hour or an hour and a half without eating, you'll make the most of the fat-burning response."

第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Competition is everywhere. It teaches us how to survive in a stressful world.
36 How many of us have seen young boys weeping because their teams didn't win an inter-school tourmament? How many of us have seen young teenagers cheat just to win? These are the effects of unhealthy competition.37
When it comes to encouraging healthy competition among children, the first thing is to set goals for them to stick to. 38
Since children may be easily affected by wrong ideas from popular media and the Internet, it's up to you to develop the right kind of spirit in them. Team spirit will help them grow into human beings who aren't easily annoyed by small losses or too excited by victories.39 So give them examples where family members refused to cheat to win.
40 When they take an exam, don't ask about how much they expect to score; instead, ask what they wrote about. If your son played a football match at school, don't ask him whether his team won or lost; ask him how many runs he sore and encourage him to score higher next time instead. When you let your children know that you're more interested in how they performed rather than whether they lost or won, they will surely try to better themselves
A. Sending your children the right signals is equally important.
B. However, children sometimes can be hit a lot by competition.
C. However, you mustn't push them too hard with too high a goal
D. We should also encourage healthy competition among children.
E. Thus its important to develop healthy competition among children.
F. Care about children's performances instead of the results in a sports match.
G. Besides, they don't want to adopt any method just to win, like cheating or lying.

Dear Editor,
Recently, I’ve often seen elderly people unable to use smartphones in travel, medical treatment, consumption and so on, which causes inconvenience in their daily life. So, I’m writing to tell you about the problem and make some suggestions.
I think the government should take effective measures to solve it. Firstly, many traditional ways of services, like cash payment, should be kept because elderly people are familiar with them. Besides, activities are needed to provide free technical training for them so that they can use smartphone applications easily.
Finally, volunteers can be organized to help them in public places when they’re in trouble.
I hope the convenience of smart services for the elderly will be improved.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
