Sydney has a huge bus system. No buses accept cash, and a ticket needs to be bought ahead of time. The buses often run at busy hours and regularly during the day. The Sydney Explorer bus provides air — conditioned service and stops at 27 tourist attractions. Spartner, the Bondi Explorer, stops at 19 attractions. Tickets allow holders to jump on and off as they please, and they can be used for one or two days. It's an easy way o see the city and the surroundings.

Sydney's train service runs throughout the central city area and the surroundings. Tickets can be bought from machines that operate 24 hours a day or from ticket offices. The monorail(单轨火车) travels through central Sydney. It is the most excellent way to gain a good view of the whole city. The monorail runs every three to five minutes, and it takes 15 minutes to complete its journey. Sydney is built around a harbor, and the Parramatta River has a large ferry(渡船) system. It serves the area around the harbor. These include Taronga Zoo, Darling Harbor, Rose Bay, the North Shore, Cockatoo Island and Sydney Olympic Park. The ferries have operated for more than 135 years and 14 million passengers take the ferries each year.

Water taxis can offer special services that some visitors enjoy, such as transporting passengers to specific locations, offering guided tours of waterways and so on. The tickets sell for 20 Australian dollars for a day or 57 Australian dollar for a week. It is strange, isn't it?

When I look Amy home from the animal shelter, she was scared. I believed she had been abused(虐待) because she was afraid of anything my husband, Bill, or I held in our hands. With a lot of care and attention, she became a great dog that surprised us every day.

About three years ago, Amy and I joined a volunteer project called Canines with Class. At our first school visit, Officer Lisa called Amy and asked her to show how to shake hands and give a high five. The students clapped(拍手) in joy and Amy received a reward. Then the students got to touch the dog. One by one they came up to meet Amy. Some of them started talking to me about their own pets. I didn't feel worried any more. I thought the children liked staying with us.

On our next school visit, I put a big chain(链条) on Amy's neck and walked away from her. You could see that Amy was not happy. When I took the chain off her neck, Amy shook her tail happily and wouldn't stop licking() my face. That was when we talked about “breaking the chain”. On our third school trip, Amy started acting poorly when it was time to show off a few tricks. The students watched to see how I would correct her mistakes. It was a good chance to explain that if your dog doesn't do exactly what you ask, you don't have to shout at her or hit her to make it right. I think the children have learned a lot about respect and patience.

Amy loves the program and has come so far since I found her a few years ago. Amy has broken the chain, and the love she gives those children will help them become good pet owners.

    8. The author thought Amy had been abused mainly because of       .

    C. where Amy had lived before D. how Amy reacted to something

    9. During the first school visit, the author was most probably       .

    A. nervous B. encouraged C. calm D. upset

    10. What was the purpose of the second school visit?

    A. To show how dogs get happy. B. To encourage children to be free.

    C. To encourage children to save dogs. D. To show why we should stop using dog chains.

    11. What did the children learn from the third school trip?

    A. Dogs are stupid at times.  B. Everyone makes mistakes.

    C. Dog owners should be patient. D. People should respect each other.

    D

With schools close in the UK during the COVID-19 (新冠疫情) outbreak, most children must now be homeschooled. Parents have found themselves not only having to balance work and having the children at home but also having to try and teach them. How can you keep your children focused while learning?

Nicola Anderson--Head of Customer Support at the UK's leading online tutoring service My Tutor, provides new, up-to-date tips to hearten parents at this difficult time and advises how they can structure their children's days.

One is to keep to a regular timetable so it still feels like your child is taking part in the school day. Ms Anderson said: “Children of all ages do well on routine and boundaries; schools provide this in abundance and it will most children feel secure and happy if they can follow a similar timetable for their homeschooling.”

Another tip is to create an environment which is favorable to learning- She said:” The environment should be free from distractions and ideally near to an open window, to provide them with appropriate levels of fresh air and natural light. Some children find it comfortable and helpful to have quiet, instrumental music playing in the background to help them to focus, but this isn't for everyone.”

Using technology to help with your child's learning is also advised. Many schools are offering online classes and resources to help and companies are reducing or even not charging their fees during this time.

It is also important to keep physical exercise as a part of your routine. Joe Wicks, otherwise known as The Body Coach, has been keeping kids healthy with daily 10 minute workouts for children on his YouTube channel. Ms Anderson said: “It can be anything from running around the garden, walking the dog, a game of foal or dancing around your living room!”

    12. Who is the text intended for?

    A. Student. B. Teachers. C. Coaches. D. Parents.

    13. What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 3 refer to?

    A. Homeschooling. B. Tutoring service. C. A regular timetable. D. Difficult time:

    14. What may Nicola Anderson agree?

    A. To allow children to adjust schedule freely. B. To offer children peaceful study environment.

    C. To recommend high-tech to online schools. D. To combine routine with kids' mental heath.

    15. What is the text mainly about?

    A. How to improve homeschooling efficiency. B. How to obtain online learning resources.

    C. How to study attentively at home. D. How to design a proper schedule.
